THIS is one of the most unique products I've bought on Amazon. I was a bit hesitant after reading some of the reviews, but this is the MOST beautiful, realistic moss I've ever seen. You just have to spend a little time to "unpack" it. Here's what I found worked: 1) Put on gloves. This stuff WILL spread green on your hands. 2) Work over your kitchen sink, it will scatter all over once it starts expanding. 3) It comes in a kind of layer cake. It looks small, but yields a lot. Get a spray bottle with warm water. Start spraying the outside of the cake with the water. 4) Work at the top of the cake with your fingernails (in gloves!) It will start to peel off in layers. 5) Spray each layer a little more, then pull it off. **Have a colander ready to receive the pieces you pull off- line it with a paper towel. 6) Fluff up the pieces you pull off. 7) Continue working the top layer of the cake until you have the amount you need. 7) Place the colander with the moss out in the sun to dry for an hour or so. You could also use a blow dryer if no sun is available. Note: I know some folks have commented on the smell, but I found it to smell like fresh spinach when wet. Not a big deal. The smell was gone once it dried. Is it worth this preparation? YES!!! The result looks like freshly gathered real moss, straight from the forest. It looks great at the base of artificial plants and in a terrarium. I only used about 1/4 of it and wrapped up the remainder in Glad Wrap. I appreciated the nice note that came with the moss from the owner of this small, family-owned company. Just get it! The shades of green are natural, nuanced, and look absolutely real.

First off, thanks to all the previous reviews prompting me to try out this product. Now here’s my personal review. Highly recommended. I included several pictures to show how great this product is. I bought the 10oz size. It comes with 4 squares of compressed moss. I would suggest doing it outdoor as it is naturally dusty and to wear mask if you are sensitive to dust. No smell. Use gloves and work on one square at a time. Easy to pull apart the vacuumed moss but do it gently to give it a fluffy look instead of breaking it down too much. After it’s all separated, I put it to where I wanted to place them, then I use a sprayer to mist them lightly, to kind of settle them down. The package also included a coupon for future purchase. Which I definitely will do so.

Purchased as filler for house plants and to make moss platforms for air plants. Works well and looks great but it absolutely will stain your fingers green! Wear gloves when handling wet

I normally don't rush to write a review on a product, but I absolutely do with this one! The directions said to remove the trash that might be in the product.. there was none. Directions said to wear gloves in case the added dye stained fingers... no stains! I only wish that everything I purchased was as perfect as this moss! Beautifully packaged. Excellent quality! Precise instructions. I absolutely recommend this product and will purchase again! They also sell many other products that I intend to check out.

Loved how natural it looks. After a few rains some of the vibrant green fell a bit but it still had a natural look. For outdoor use, maybe a light clear coating will help to keep the vibrant green.

It’s a very small amount of moss. Not nearly enough to cover an oasis in arrangement. Which was when I purchased it.

Great moss filler. The box does not come with any instructions. I tried water spraying and it was taking too long. Also, the product does smell like wet moss once it is wet because it is a natural moss product. Here’s what worked like a charm: 1) Fill a sink or bucket with cold water enough to submerge the block of moss. 2) Put the moss in the bucket and hold it down under the water with your hand. 3) Over the next several minutes, it’ll suck up all the water and expand like crazy. This picture is from only one small brick which will easily fill one pot. 4) Add more water if needed. 5) Begin gently kneading the moss like you are hand-tossing a green salad lightly pulling and tossing it to fluff it up. 6) Let it sit for 10 minutes. 7) Drain off the excess water. 8) Put down a trash bag on a flat surface. 9) Move the wet moss to the flat trash bag and fluff it while spreading it out. 10) Let it dry/partially dry overnight. 11) Decorate. If it is still moist when putting it in your pot, that’s fine. It’s going to air dry anyway. As long as the moss is not dripping wet, you’re fine. Warning – there is a green dye in the moss. Be careful not to get any of this dye on your clothes or porous surfaces as it may stain.

The perfect shade of moss for my projects!! Make sure you wear gloves when soaking in water as some of the dye comes off but it’s expands wonderfully and I have plenty for future projects

Very good quality and easy to work with. Wear gloves as the dye will stain hands. It’s a very dyed moss so I wondered if the moss might look too artificially green compared to the real plants but it seems to look good. It’s pure moss. I found one tiny wood chip but otherwise no contaminants which was great. The handwritten note from Lucy was a nice touch to show they care about their product.
