You define mesh size as the number of holes in a square inch. Other places define mesh as number of holes per linear inch. Which is correct?

Mesh size is defined by the size of the holes. It doesn't make sense to define it by the number of holes per linear or square inch because the thickness of the strands making up the mesh could vary (e.g., nylon strands vs stainless steel strands). This particular product is not very useful because the "holes" are rectangular not square. It's an inferior product.

Great product for the money.

I use this for filtering water in 5 gallon buckets with sand and gravel and charcoal and it does a great job.I got number 60.I should have got a little finer.I guess it goes higher.The finer it is.

Nylon fine mesh!

Working as expected. Purchased to replace old plugged 400 micron filter for filtering fresh goat milk. Cut to fit. There is enough to last a couple of years. Would also work well for making reusable bags for cold brew coffee or teas.
