Well-built, reliable external SSD with excellent everyday performance
Well-built, reliable external SSD with excellent everyday performance. I can’t reach the maximum advertised speeds because my computer doesn’t support USB 3.2 Gen 2x2, but even on standard USB ports it’s significantly faster than some external SSDs and far quicker than HDDs - I was amazed at how quickly I could move 300gb across 3 files, taking mere minutes compared to hours with HDDs. The fact that they have some drop protection and some water resistance is also very reassuring. The drive is compact, lightweight, and feels very durable, making it easy to travel with. Setup was instant (plug-and-play) on both Windows and Mac, and the 4TB capacity is ideal for large backups, media libraries, or work files. If you have compatible hardware, you’ll likely see even better performance, but it still works extremely well on older systems. A high-quality, no-nonsense SSD that does exactly what it’s designed to do. Make your purchase now while the prices are still reasonable as they are likely to double and maybe even triple over the course of the next year (like graphic cards did (due to demand and lack of supply and people mining bitcoin, lockdown gaming etc) due to the demand for ai centres and businesses making RAM prices go crazy high, and now storage prices are beginning to follow suit. Micron (owners of the Crucial brand) have announced that they are exiting the Crucial consumer market and will be focusing on supplying larger businesses, enterprise and commercial customers (again, the ai demand), and this will only mean that prices will increase - without Crucial (being one of the most popular and trusted brands for storage and memory iwht arguably the best value for money pricing) there will be less competition and less availability only driving prices higher. Don't let their exit put you off as they will continue to sell their products at retailers until February 2026 and will continue to honour warranties for their relevant periods. All in all I am very happy with my purchase of these amazing SSDs, so much so that I have just purchased my third one.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Fast, Reliable & Perfect for Creative Work
I’ve been using the Crucial X10 Pro 2TB Portable External SSD for a little while now and it’s honestly been a game changer. The speed is incredible. File transfers are ridiculously fast – even large 4K video projects move across in seconds rather than minutes. It keeps up effortlessly when editing directly from the drive, with no lag or stuttering. For anyone working with big files, this thing is a beast. The build quality feels premium and solid. It’s compact, lightweight, and easy to throw into a bag without worrying about it. The design is sleek and minimal, and it doesn’t get excessively hot under heavy use like some other portable SSDs I’ve tried. Setup was completely plug-and-play on both Mac and Windows. No hassle, no weird formatting issues – just worked straight out of the box. The 2TB capacity is perfect for storing active projects, backups, and media libraries without constantly juggling space. It gives real peace of mind knowing everything is backed up on something this fast and reliable. If you need a high-performance portable SSD for work, travel, or general storage, I highly recommend this. Worth every penny.

Failed after one month – stuck in read-only mode and cannot be formatted
I bought the Crucial X10 Pro 2TB portable SSD less than one month ago and it has already failed. After roughly a month of normal use, the drive suddenly switched to read-only mode. The files can still be read, but nothing can be deleted, and the drive cannot be reformatted. macOS Disk Utility cannot erase it and the drive is now effectively unusable. This appears to be a known failure behavior with SSDs when the controller detects an internal fault, but it means the drive becomes locked and impossible to wipe. I contacted Crucial support expecting a straightforward warranty replacement. Instead, they insisted that the defective drive must be returned in its original condition before they will replace it. The problem is that the SSD contains private and sensitive data that cannot be securely erased because the drive is locked in read-only mode. Crucial’s response was simply that I should send the drive back anyway and trust that they will securely erase it once they receive it. That is not an acceptable solution. Expecting customers to mail storage devices containing personal data when the device itself prevents secure deletion is unreasonable. So in summary: -The drive failed after less than one month -It became read-only and impossible to format -The warranty process requires sending back a drive containing data that cannot be erased -Product rating: 1 star; Customer service: 1 star. Because of this experience, I will not be buying Crucial storage products again. If you are considering this SSD for important files, backups, or professional work, I would strongly recommend looking at alternatives.

Blazing Fast, Rock Solid, and Reliable – Perfect for Creative Work and Backup
I’ve been using the Crucial X10 Pro 2TB for a few weeks now and I’m seriously impressed. The advertised speeds (up to 2100MB/s read and 2000MB/s write) aren’t just marketing fluff—this drive flies. Large video files, RAW photo backups, and even full macOS Time Machine backups copy across in minutes, not hours. I’m using it with both a Mac Mini (M1) and a Windows laptop, and the USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 interface has worked flawlessly with both. It comes pre-formatted in exFAT, which is handy for cross-platform use, but I reformatted it for APFS on my Mac without any issues. Build quality is excellent. It’s compact, sturdy, and has a soft-touch rubberised finish that feels nice in the hand. I’ve taken it out on shoots and it’s held up well in bags, in pockets, and even in light rain—IP55 water and dust resistance gives real peace of mind. Pros: Extremely fast read/write speeds (real-world tests were close to spec) Compact and durable design Works on both Mac and PC Feels premium and rugged Stays cool even with heavy file transfers Cons: USB-C cable is a little short (as usual!) Pricier than basic SSDs, but you’re paying for top-tier performance If you’re a photographer, videographer, or just want a fast, trustworthy backup drive, the Crucial X10 Pro is a solid investment. Highly recommended.

Compact, cool running and good value SSD.
I should have checked before buying but I discovered my M4 MBP doesn’t support the doubled-up USB protocol for the X10. So this Crucial X10 Pro is no faster than my other X9s SSDs on my Mac. But no harm done as the Pro 10 was cheaper than an X9, courtesy of Amazon Resale. The Aluminium Pro10 SSD is the same compact size but is better built than the plastic bodied X9. It stay’s reasonably cool during intense use and so far it’s been reliable. Recommended.

Fast small SSD - excellent
Needed a fast SSD external drive to use as an archive to replace a really slow and noisy spindle drive. This fits the bill perfectly. I've always had good experiences with Crucial products (SSD and memory) so didnt hesitate to buy this at the price. Positives: Fast, quiet and small. Works perfectly with my MacBook Pro and is hidden away behind the external monitor. Because of the size I can take either with me when I travel which is massive advantage compared to having to access the old drive using Synology VPN and jumping through a lot of hoops and even then getting slow performance over the internet. Negatives: None other than it is black and small and disappears into my laptop rucksack and can be difficult to find. This is not really the product's fault! All in all very happy

Great for the traveller.
I am a very keen, but not very good, amateur photographer and needed a way of down loading RAW digital photo's from my camera while out and about. Photographic equipment can be very big a bulky so, my first priority was, I needed an External SSD that was small and light. During my search I came across the Crucial X10 Pro and it has proved to be a great addition and help in my quest to create that great photo! It's light weight, robust, Read/Write speeds are phenomenal and small enough to fit in your top pocket. Great piece of kit.
