WiiM Pro Plus Music Streamer for Stereo Systems, Modernize Your Hi-Fi

I had previously been using a Raspberry Pi to stream Qobuz to my DAC in my 2 channel hifi system; however, I was becoming tired of the clunky user experience so decided to give the Wiim Pro Plus a try. As I have already have a (very nice) DAC I was unsure whether to simply get the non-pro version and save a little money as I anticipated I would use my DAC rather than the built in one in the Pro Plus; however, at the time there was a 10% discount on the Pro Plus version and I fancied a remote control. The unboxing experience was excellent and didn’t feel budget at all, the device is wrapped in protective plastic within the box and you get all the plugs and cables you need to get going. If I could criticize the build, there are some faint marks on top of the case when the light hits the case at a certain angle. I think this might be from the protective plastic the device is shipped in? The device was very straight forward to get going, simply plug it into your system, switch it on and follow the prompts in the app. The device will update itself and within a few minutes from unboxing it is ready to start using. I didn’t experience any bugs or frustrations during setup. The app is quite comprehensive, so I recommend reading the online Wiim Pro Plus manual while you await the delivery of the device. I think you will then find it easier to navigate and set up the app the way you prefer it right from the off. Initially, I used the RCA outs directly into my amplifier and I was pleasantly surprised at the sound quality. The sound is smooth with no obvious harshness or other annoying traits and I can listen to music for hours without fatigue. I tried using my DAC and used a good quality QED glass optical cable from the Wiim to the DAC and set the Wiim to 24/192 output via optical. The sound was what I would expect from my DAC, most notably, the sound was more holographic, wider soundstage and the bass was a bit punchier; however, not as forgiving of poorer recordings. Things I didn’t like about using my DAC were a slight grain to the music which I eventually sorted by reducing the resolution from the optical out of the Wiim from 24/192 to 16/44.1, I don’t know if this is a Wiim issue, a DAC issue or choice of cable. Also there would be a pop through the speakers when switching between tracks with different resolutions e.g. going from 24/192 to 16/44.1. This popping was reduced by adjusting the settings in the app; however, it still occurred on occasion. Ultimately, I went back to using RCA directly to my amplifier and while the sound is not as holographic, as wide or as punchy, it is not far off and I need to A/B compare them to pick out the differences. I now use my DAC solely for playing CDs. I stream using Qobuz and using Qobuz through the Wiim app is glitch free and a pleasure to use. It doesn’t have all the functionality of the Qobuz app, and I’ve noticed when listening to an album and choosing to view similar albums, these similar albums are the same no matter what genre of music or album you listen to. When using Qobuz Connect, this is a non issue; however, Qobuz Connect seems to have a bug just now (noticed this through the Raspberry Pi as well) in that the track time bar on the now playing screen freezes sometimes and only works again if I minimise the now playing screen and then bring it back. This issue doesn’t occur when using Qobuz via the Wiim app. The Roomfit functionality through the app can work well; however, I find it to be inconsistent and needed a number of attempts to get a sound I liked. When I eventually got a sound I liked, the difference was subtle. I would say the biggest benefit is a more focussed, slightly more holographic sound. I recommend reading the manual on how to operate the Roomfit as there are a few settings to adjust. There is EQ functionality too, and this can be used in conjunction with the Roomfit; however, I’m happy with the tonal balance of my system and don’t use EQ. Overall, it's amazing how far inexpensive streamers (and DAC’s) have come in the last few years. I'm pleased I went for the Pro Plus version and I recommend it.

I originally bought the Pro version before the Pro Plus was released - the Pro Plus is a definite upgrade from the Pro and well worth the extra money in my opinion despite the similarities. Pro's: 1. Really easy to setup via the WiiM app that is provided - was up and running within 2 minutes of plugging it in. 2. Functionality is amazing - I have used Sonos and others in the past and this for me is the most versatile device with the best user software. The included remote also has excellent voice connectivity if you don't have another smart device running into it. 3. Versatility is also great - I have connected Amazon bluetooth devices that play by default through this device and it works perfectly effectively as the 'main speaker' for an echo dot. Yet I can still use the remote to get the WiiM to directly play anything from my connected services such as Amazon Music and Spotify. It just works. 4. Clarity and quality of audio - this is where the Pro Plus earns its money as it's immediately obvious that the DAC is superior to the Pro version. I run this into high quality vintage hifi via quality coax cables and it sounds as clear and impressive as my high quality CD source. In some cases with high quality audio files it's actually superior. 5. Size is great, it sits on the bottom shelf of my hifi rack, innocuously going about its business! Cons: 1. The price is much higher than the Pro version and their connectivity and usability is the same - so go for this if you have higher quality audio kit that needs a good source 2. For the price I would love to have seen a front display of some form, beyond the single LED that sits there, just to show source/levels etc. However I'd rather the money was spent of the excellent DAC that sits within the device I guess. Overall, I love this device and feel no need to look elsewhere at far more expensive alternatives with a few more flashy features. It does what it does exceptionally well and I hope it continues to do so (and be fully supported) for years to come.

Great product but no uk plug on ones bought from Amazon. Bought another one on Black Friday with £50 discount from Richer Sounds with uk plug. Works brilliantly with great sound and ok remote. receives lots of over the air updates Obviously don’t know about long term reliability yet but fingers crossed. I originally bought the Cambridge Audio CXN v2 streamer but decided I wanted to use a music services native app. Lots to like about the CXN v2 but expensive and does not have Amazon Alexa capabilities. Cambridge app was stable and decent, bit plain, has good predictive music search. I tried some popular music services and use an iPhone and iPad mainly. The Wiim app is decent and stable but there’s still no predictive search facility like on native apps. We already have Apple Music family plan but this is restricted to Airplay and it’s ok but not hi res. Tidal was ok but too expensive, Tidal Connect was good hi res but you had to be on the Tidal app to control volume when using phone or iPad Qobuz, I liked also but too jazz oriented for me. Decent price for high quality music . Chrome cast worked well, sound quality slightly capped but still very good hi res and you didn’t have to be on the qobuz app to be able to control the volume which I like although frequently it would lose the ability to control the sound with the physical iPad buttons. Also no gap less play with Chromecast. Amazon Music I’m using now and this to me is where this Wiim Pro Plus excels. I believe it’s the only streamer with Alexa cast built in? Anyway, I’ve set it all up with Alexa app and connected the Wiim remote . All I have to do now is pick up the remote and ask it to play whatever I like and it switches on the Wiim and my amp (Cambridge Audio CXA 61 using trigger cable) and plays music. Alexa repeats what you have asked for and so by the time a couple of seconds have gone by for the units to switch on you don’t miss the beginning of the song. Also using native Amazon Alexa Cast is really good and works well. You don’t have to be on the Amazon music app to control the volume, the physical iPad buttons work, nice and flexible. Only things I don’t like about using Amazon music Alexa Cast is that it can sometimes be slow to react and you may have to press twice to choose a different song on the Amazon music app, there is no volume slider to look at/use on the app and the ‘up next’ usually only shows about 1 song. The volume control with physical iPad buttons on native apps can ‘jump’ in larger increments when using ‘Connect’ type features. (This happened on The Cambridge CXN v2 also) For the most subtle increments of volume the Wiim app and remote are best. The remote is also handy for quickly putting on the radio/playlist using the 4 remote presets. I initially thought I wouldn’t bother using the remote but usually have it handy now. Hope that helps anyone with their research.

First of all, I just want to mention how fantastic Wiim Support is, they sorted an issue for me in a fast, professional and knowledgeable way very quickly - and were very patient until I discovered the issue (which turns out was due to my own DAC's setting). I've owned Denon Heos, Bluesound Node 2i and the Chromecast Audio, but I have to say the WiiM is my favourite for one very important reason. Not only does it sound great and include Chromecast (which very few streamers do), but it also has a 10-band graphic equaliser and a parametric equaliser that works across ALL outputs including Optical and Coaxial. (none of my other streamers did this). Why is this so monumentally awesome you may ask? Well as any audiophile worth their salt will know - room acoustics has the greatest bearing on sound quality other than the components itself. The Wiim allows you to sculpt the EQ to suit your room acoustics. This means that amp that is a little bright or speakers that are a tad dull or whatever can now be optimised with adjusting the EQ- and not just adjusting it, but saving your desired EQ as a preset- for instance, I have one for TV where voices are accentuated, one for a "vintage bass" feel, I even have an EQ that copies the legendary BBC LS3/5A curve if I want my speakers to sound like that! If you have to invest in the cost of room treatment and room correction equipment like Mini DSP or Dirac Live, the costs will run you into the thousands! Here you have it for 200 bucks. Mind blown - totally! So at present, I have 2 different flavours of DACs connected and can use my phone to switch between TV, Hifi and any sound source including my own music server - you name it, it's there! I also love all the internet radio stations that are available via Vtuner etc. and the ability to have a favourites screen to easily access anything you want, even if it's just your favourite album! Is there anything I would change? Yes, I do have a couple of feature requests that I feel would make the product even better- 1. Using sliders for sound adjustment and EQ adjustment is not accurate enough on a small phone screen- the adjustments are too great using fingers - it needs to have greater range and less sensitivity, and smaller steps in adjustment. Maybe this can be alleviated by using a tablet with a bigger screen, but worth a mention. 2. It looks like the WiiM is supposed to stay switched on -when you turn it off you lose pairing with the remote(which is a great remote by the way compared to the "credit card" types.) This is slightly annoying because the remote's volume uses smaller steps, but I use the app most of the time in any case. So yes, Hifi product of the decade for me. I can't think of anything better in the last 10 years even close to this price. Job well done WiiM- I'm a very happy customer!!

I bought this to replace a Primare NP5, which died suddenly last week. I'm using the coaxial digital output into an existing DAC, so your experience might be different if you are using the analogue outputs. I use it for UPnP streaming from a NAS, for Qobuz Connect, and for use as a Chromecast, e.g. with BBC Sounds. I would have been willing to spend more, but there isn't really anything else that did what I wanted (apart from another NP5) unless you spend about four times as much. The iFi Zen Streamer gets good reviews for sound quality, for example, but people say that it's unreliable - and it doesn't support Qobuz or Chromecast. I assumed that if I was only using the SPDIF connection then the difference in price might be less obvious - but I was wrong. Straight away I could see that the software was slick, and better than the Primare's, but after carefully adjusting the settings to ensure bit-perfect output... the sound from the Wiim was disappointing. It sounded shrill and two-dimensional, and very forward. It was like everyone was on the front of the stage and everything had a lithographic quality with no body to instruments or voices. I checked the Post Office opening hours and was all ready to send it back when I wondered whether the power supply - which looks like a cheap phone charger - might be a limiting factor. So I tried using my wife's phone power bank to power the Wiim and was shocked by the difference it made. The shrillness has reduced, voices have more body and some of the instruments have taken a couple of steps back. It's still not as good as the NP5 or my Audiolab CD transport, but it's now something that I can listen to and is perfectly acceptable for the price. I now need to find a proper mains power supply!

The reviews are right. This little brother of the Wiim Ultra does a good job. It is flexible and easily controllable from the App. Easily connected and away you go. I have it plugged in to back of an old Denon unit in the bedroom and also have the TV plugged in to the Wiim. Streaming is quite easy as App guides you through the set up. Sound quality is good. Obviously the Wiim would benefit from a better amp to supply but the flexibility of the Wiim overcomes all ills. Just turn the amp up to 80% and control everything on the App. Purchased on an Amazon Prime Day including 6 months interest free the price was a no-brainer. If you get one of these for less than £200 you're on to a winner as they are holding their price on the second hand market. Probably will but another for other systems and "Wiim up" across the house.

I bought the WiiM Pro Plus to add modern streaming to my hi-fi system, and it has exceeded my expectations. I’ve connected it via the optical out into a Chord Mojo 2, which then feeds my high-end amplifier and speakers, and the results are outstanding. Streaming via Apple AirPlay gives me clean, detailed, truly CD-quality sound – it’s hard to believe it’s coming over Wi-Fi. Setup was straightforward and the app is easy to use. It picked up my network and AirPlay devices quickly, and I was up and running in minutes. Switching between services and sources is smooth, and it’s been rock-solid with no dropouts or glitches in daily use. Overall, this little box has transformed the way I listen to music at home. It offers excellent sound quality, flexible connectivity and all the modern streaming options I need, without having to replace my existing hi-fi gear. I’m extremely pleased with it and would highly recommend it to anyone looking to add high-quality streaming to a serious audio system.

So for a long time I have been looking for something to replace an old phone I was using as a streamer into an amplifier in my shed that provided ok sound, enough for me to not turn it off while I am working but I still found myself getting out cd's and records to enjoy music not just listen to something. I kept saying if I bought a DAC it could sound so much better so I did, I bought a couple of different SMSL dac's at a similar £200 price tag and they really didn't make that much difference to my small listening shed. I figured that the issue must be in the phone and so looked to replace the phone with a wiim mini and that actually sounded exactly the same so I gave up, returned them all to Amazon and carried on with my phone. That was till I saw this announced, a streamer with a built in DAC that could not only be streamed to but also streamed from! So my setup includes a cd player, record player, amplifier and now the wiim pro plus. I have everything routed through the wiim into the amplifier, this allows me to control everything using the wiim remote. The advantage of this is the Wiim remote is powered by Bluetooth allowing me to place my whole system out of reach of IR remotes which is a current pain. Not only that it automatically switches the input if I start playing a cd or record which is such a simple thing but such a nice touch. Lastly, when I am playing those cd's, I am a couple of clicks away from playing them to any airplay 2 receivers, yes, this means this could replace a sonos port, I regularly chuck on a record and airplay it to the three Sonos one's in the house and its solid. I know I have left sound quality to last, but I think its biggest compliment is that I didn't notice a difference when playing records, CD's sound a little cleaner and streaming is much much cleaner. I did notice a difference when I used the EQ to add a bit of bass. This was added across the inputs and compensates for my system's tendency to be accurate rather than enjoyable. I listen to a variety of music but I just can not get enough of Hip Hop and D&B on this now.

Wow! What a streamer. I upgraded from an old Apple AirPort Express and later an Apple TV to the WiiM Pro Plus, and the improvement in sound quality is incredible. Connected to my Bang & Olufsen hi-fi system, the music is noticeably clearer, with better separation, more detail and an impressively quiet background. I mainly listen to classical music, opera and film scores, and it genuinely felt like I was rediscovering my music collection. Even older recordings have taken on a new life. It’s worth every dollar—and then some. If I had to describe it in one word, it would be “wow.” Setup was quick and easy, and the app has been reliable and intuitive. Highly recommended.

I was looking for a Network streamer and did a bit of research on the internet and Youtube. After comparing the risk reward of each streamer, I finally bought one Wiim Pro Plus streamer. The initial sound from the Wiim Pro Plus connected to my Muzishare X7 integrated amp via a pair of Van Den Hul (The First) interconnect played through a pair of 92db Focal JMLab speakers was definitely better sounding than streaming via a Bluetooth receiver. Initially, even while I was streaming hi-res audio via Tidal, it sounded slightly flat and the sound stage felt a little compressed at the start. However, after watching a YouTube video on Best EQ settings by the cheapaudioman, I punch in the same setting he suggested and make some minor tweaks, and immediately the sound stage opened up, and the bass felt fuller. Now, I'm truly enjoying music that is streaming through the Wiim Pro Plus, playing Tidal via the Wiim home app. Be sure to fit this streamer with the best quality audio you can find, and it will definitely shine, it will not disappoint you. This is a highly recommended streamer at this price point for sure.

This multistreamer was a perfect choice. After a while I found out sone very nice details that made the use much easier. Like the autodetect of the optical signdl from my TV and the trigger output so that my amplifier turns on automatically. The D/A has been tested to be of high quality. I agree.

Using the WiiM Pro Plus as a primary sound source in an office environment. I'm using the WiiM Home App or alternatively the Tidal Connect link using Tidal's app. The WiiM unfolds MQA on Tidal for a perceptibly clearer and more dynamic sound. The WiiM Pro Plus sits on a shelf above my dedicated headphone amplifier -- a Schist Ragnarok -- and plays music through a set of Audeze LCD-2 headphones that I've had for years. I'm using my iPad as a control device (either the WiiM Home app or Tidal app) while I do actual work on my iMac. I've only had this for a couple of days, so I don't have anything to say about reliabiiity or long-term listening fatigue. I CAN say that I'm finding the sound quality much better than I feared. My primary listening system uses very high-quality audiophile gear that I've painstakingly acquired to achieve great sound. The DAC alone is more than 10 times more expensive than the WiiM, and my electrostatic speakers are over $10,000 these days. So I'm used to good sound. That said, the WiiM Pro Plus is a simply OUTSTANDING deal. I'm not doing any critical listening, but I'm quite happy with my new office music partner. Setup was trivial, although the instructions were either too simple or too complex. The only quick-setup guide was for the hand-held remote, and that's sending me to a device menu buried in the user interface. The full 40-page manual can be downloaded, and poking around will reveal the performance, hook-up, and features that are quite impressive (10-band equalizer, for instance, or the ability to sync multiple units together for whole-house sound, as examples). For my super-simple office application it was major overkill. I use Roon at home, and Tidal. The WiiM Home App works mostly intuitively, although there are a lot of features and capabilities that might be important to those who like to play with their food rather than just eat it. There are a lot of ways to use this streamer, including as a simple streamer into a DAC of your choice if you don't like the built-in upgraded AKC DAC that is the "Plus" part of the WiiM Pro Plus package. At the moment this is not "Roon-Ready" but the previous experience with the WiiM Pro model suggests that it should become RAAT certified in a couple months or so. The WiiM shows up on my Roon app as a Squeezebox Lite unit, which is better-sounding than Chromecast or Airplay. I've tried mine with 3 different control maps: 1) the WiiM App, which you need to run at least occasionally to keep track of over-the-air updates (I've had 3 so far and I've had it less than a week). 2) Tidal Connect let's you cast your phone Tidal through the WiiM where it will connect to your account and run the highest bit-rate supported, depending on what your Tidal plan supports. I'm using the top plan and the high-res + MQA sound quality is best so far. 3) You can run it as a Roon end point player, although not yet certified. When it does get certified, that is likely to be the best-sounding option, giving you the most control of your music. The WiiM app purportedly lets you play your own music if you have it online in your network someplace. I tried linking one of my music folders and it kinda worked, but got very draggy and slow. It's like teaching a dog to dance... it's amazing it can do that, much less do it well. Overall I'm very pleased with my purchase, the great development team behind it and the terrific value it represents in terms of sound quality and capabilities at this price point. Highly recommended.
