M*A*S*H: Season OneKorea, 1950. They were a MASH (Mobile Army Surgical Hospital) unit stationed three miles from the front. Incoming helicopters full of wounded brought the horrors of war to them daily and sometimes bullets flew right outside the operating room door. Occasional hilarity and constant hijinks were all that kept them sane.Loosely based on real-life MASH unit 8055, life at the 4077 revolved around the day-to-day routines of Captain "Hawkeye" Pierce, Captain "Trapper" McIntyre, Lieutenant Colonel Henry Blake, Major Margaret Houlihan, Major Franklin Burns and Corporal "Radar" O'Reilly. Through these characters, viewers traveled beyond the long hours and the horrors of the operating room to a place where friendships were forged, laughter was found and drinks were served.Specs: Audio: English & French: Mono (English without laugh track)Language: Dubbed: English, Spanish, & French / Subtitled: English & SpanishTheatrical Aspect Ratio: Full Screen: 1.33:1Bonus Features: Disk 1: M*A*S*H - The Pilot; To Market, To Market; Requiem For A Lightweight; Chief Surgeon Who?; The Moose; Yankee Doodle Doctor; Bananas; Crackers and Nuts; CowboyDisk 2: Henry, Please Come Home; I Hate A Mystery; Germ Warfare; Dear Dad; Edwina; Love Story; Tuttle; The RingbangerDisk 3: Sometimes You Hear The Bullet; Dear Dad...Again; The Longjohn Flap; The Army-Navy Game; Sticky Wicket; Major Fred C. Almost immediately after the second season began, the show became a hit-and the actors became household names.Little did they know the show was going to last longer than the war itself.Specs: Audio: English, French, & Spanish: Mono (English w/o laugh track)Language: Dubbed: English, French, & Spanish / Subtitled: English & SpanishTheatrical Aspect Ratio: Full Screen: 1.33:1Bonus Features: Disk 1: Divided We Stand; Five O'Clock Charlie; Radar's Report; For The Good Of The Outfit; Dr. Pierce And Mr. Hyde; Kim; L.I.P. In addition, the show's writers were more experienced with the TV format and had more in-depth knowledge of the characters. By this time they could also gauge how much serious material the audience would accept mixed in with their comedy. But most importantly, between the second and third seasons Larry Gelbart and Gene Reynolds visited Korea, a trip that they say affected the stories in the third season.Specs:Audio: English, French, & Spanish: MonoLanguage: Dubbed: English, French, & Spanish / Subtitled: Spanish & EnglishTheatrical Aspect Ratio: Full Screen: 1.33:1Bonus Features: Disk 1: The General Flipped At Dawn; Rainbow Bridge; Officer Of The Day; Iron Guts Kelly; O.R.; Springtime; Check-Up; Life With FatherDisk 2: Alcoholics Unanimous; There's Nothing Like A Nurse; Adam's Rib; A Full Rich Day; Mad Dogs And Servicemen; Private Charles Lamb; Bombed; Bulletin BoardDisk 3: The Consultant; House Arrest; Aid Station; Love And Marriage; Big Mac; Payday; White Gold; Abyssinia, HenryM*A*S*H: Season FourAs the fourth season opens, Hawkeye returns from a 3-day R&R pass in Tokyo to find Trapper has been sent Stateside. Hawkeye races to the airport but arrives just as Trapper's plane takes off. Too late to tell his friend good-bye, he in nevertheless just in time to welcome Trapper's replacement, Captain B.J. Hunnicutt. Once Hawkeye gets over his anger and disappointment, he realizes B.J. is a worthy ally and takes the newcomer under his wing. "The first thing you learn here, B.J., is that insanity is no worse than the common cold. You've heard of a military post? Ours is a compost. Only the wounded are new. The tedium is relieved only by the boredom. So pitch in, muddle through, pip-pip. Never mind the reason why, ours is but to do and not let 'em die."Then Colonel Sherman T. Potter arrives to take over command of the 4077. Not only are Frank and Hot Lips outraged that Frank has lost his command so quickly, but Hawkeye and B.J. know that a “lifer” Army commander could spell big trouble for them. But then a single reminiscence from Potter puts the docs at ease: “Had a still on Guam in World War II. One night it blew up. That’s how I got my Purple Heart.”Specs: Audio: English, French, & Spanish: MonoLanguage: Dubbed: English, French, & Spanish / Subtitled: Spanish & EnglishTheatrical Aspect Ratio: Full Screen: 1.33:1Bonus Features: Disk 1: Welcome To Korea; Change Of Command; It Happened One Night; The Late Captain Pierce; Hey, Doc; The Bus; Dear Mildred; The KidsDisk 2: Quo Vadis, Captain Chandler?; Dear Peggy; Of Moose And Men; Soldier Of The Month; The Gun; Mail Call Again; The Price Of Tomato Juice; Dear MaDisk 3: Der Tag; Hawkeye; Some 38th Parallels; The Novocaine Mutiny; Smilin' Jack; The More I See You; Deluge; The InterviewM*A*S*H: Season FiveAs the fifth season opens, the Chinese are getting too close for comfort and the 4077 has been ordered to bug-out. Unfortunately, Hawkeye, B.J. and Margaret are in the middle of critical surgery and have to keep going even as the bombing starts. The rest of the 4077 find themselves in an equally dangerous situation upon discovering that the new location that HQ has chosen for them is actually in occupied territory. Luckily the Chinese are driven back and the 4077 get to bug back to their old location. But the real bomb, as far as Frank Burns is concerned, is when Margaret returns from a medical conference in Tokyo engaged to Lieutenant Colonel Donald Penobscott. "How'd Burns take it?" a concerned Colonel Potter asked. "Hard," Hawkeye replied. "He was clucking like a chicken last night. For nine straight hours." Potter shook his head. "He's heading for a Section Eight." As expected, Klinger was green with envy.Specs: Audio: English & French: MonoLanguage: Dubbed: English, Spanish, & French / Subtitled: English & SpanishTheatrical Aspect Ratio: Full Screen: 1.33:1Bonus Features: Disk 1: Bug Out; Margaret's Engagement; Out of Sight, Out of Mind; Lt. Unfortunately, his subsequent replacement, Major Charles Emerson Winchester III, soon drives B.J. and Hawkeye over the edge as well. From his fur-trimmed coat to his shiny French horn, he almost makes B.J. and Hawkeye wish Frank were still there. Almost. But as Winchester slowly finds his place within the OR, things get back to normal – or as normal as they ever get. Radar goes off in search of the perfect tattoo. Black marketeers steal all the unit's penicillin. Hawkeye and B.J. refuse to shower unless Charles stops blowing his horn. And Hawkeye and Margaret find comfort in each other's arms... if only for one night.Specs: Audio: English, Spanish, & French: MonoLanguage: Dubbed: English, Spanish, & French / Subtitled: English & SpanishTheatrical Aspect Ratio: Full Screen: 1.33:1Bonus Features: Disc 1: Fade Out; Fallen Idol; Last Laugh; War of the Nerves; The Winchester Tapes; The Light That Failed; In Love and War; Change**Special Disc features: Play All Option on menu, Viewer has the option to watch each episode without the laugh trackDisc 2: Images; The M*A*S*H Olympics; The Grim Reaper; Comrades in Arms Part 1; Comrades in Arms Part 2; The Merchant of Korea; The Smell**Special Disc features: Play All Option on menu, Viewer has the option to watch each episode without the laugh trackDisc 3: Tea and Empathy; Your Hit Parade; What's Up, Doc?; Mail Call Three; Temporary Duty; Potter's Retirement; Dr. Winchester**Special Disc features: Play All Option on menu, Viewer has the option to watch each episode without the laugh trackM*A*S*H: Season SevenAs the seventh season opens, peace talks to end the war have been going on for over a year and Hawkeye has had enough. He jumps in a jeep and roars off to the talks, and although he makes it onto the speaker's floor, his rant does little to speed up the negotiations. His discontent isn't helped by the return of war correspondent Clete Roberts who has came back to the 4077 to tape another one of his television talks for the folks back home.Yet Hawkeye isn’t the only one feeling the pressures of war. BJ nearly drives himself to exhaustion trying to help a poor Korean family, Father Mulcahy almost gets himself killed trying to get a promotion, Charles falls in love with a working girl at Rosie’s Bar, and Margaret’s divorce is finally made official. The news quickly has Radar shipping stateside, followed by a period of adjustment as everyone tries to get used to a nervous and bumbling Klinger being in charge as company clerk. Things go from bad to worse as both Colonel Potter and Charles have to be quarantined with mumps. Then Hawkeye decides to stop drinking after receiving a bar bill so big that he's shocked into realizing, "I could have bought a used Studebaker for this!" Aside from incoming wounded, the 4077 is besieged by congressional aides, doctors demonstrating new techniques, inspecting colonels and a return visit from psychiatrist Sidney Freedman. Now if only everyone would just go away so the docs could get some sleep!M*A*S*H: Season NineAs the ninth season begins, Hawkeye's well-earned R&R goes awry after he's taken prisoner in order to save the life of an enemy soldier. Margaret also becomes a prisoner of sorts after a wounded Italian soldier proclaims his love for her and refuses to be shipped back to his unit. If only Margaret's visiting father, Colonel "Howitzer Al" Houlihan, would express his love so freely! Love, or the lack of it, continues to plague the rest of the 4077 as well. Klinger is devastated when he learns his ex-wife is remarrying, Hawkeye is equally despondent that he canÄ’t get a date, and B.J. prepares to spend another wedding anniversary without his wife. For Colonel Potter, the biggest problem is that his high blood pressure will cause him to be reassigned from active duty to a "weenie job" sitting at a desk somewhere, while Charles becomes obsessed with death after he's nearly killed by an enemy sniper. As the war drags on, it begins to take a toll on the docs and nurses who, day after day, fight to save the incoming wounded helicoptered in directly from the front lines. But as much as the gang of the 4077 cared for the wounded soldiers, they also cared about each other. One rumor has everyone believing that Marilyn Monroe is going to pay the 4077 a special visit, while another claims that the peace talks are finally making headway. This second rumor gets Margaret thinking after Charles mentions how a Los Angeles skyscraper had a time capsule built into its cornerstone. Although he thinks the idea is insane, Margaret decides to make a time capsule of her own to bury in camp. “We could put something in the ground to remind people we were here,” she suggested. With Hawkeye’s help, items from around camp were gathered up for the capsule: a chopper’s broken fan belt, Radar’s teddy bear, one of Henry Blake’s fishing flies, a bottle of Charles’s cognac and Father Mulcahy’s boxing gloves. And finally, the gang of the 4077 hears the announcement they’ve been waiting for:“This is Robert Pierpoint speaking to you from nearby Panmunjom. It is one minute before ten p.m. We can still hear the sound of nearby artillery. At some point during the next few seconds, the guns should go silent, as the cease-fire officially goes into effect…There it is. Though highly skilled and deeply dedicated, they adopt a hilarious, lunatic lifestyle as an antidote to the tragedies of their Mobile Army Surgical Hospital, and in the process infuriate Army bureaucrats. Robert Duvall, Gary Burghoff and Sally Kellerman co-star as a sanctimonious Major, an other-worldly Corporal, and a self-righteous yet lusty nurse.Bonus Features: Widescreen Feature with Optional Commentary by Robert Altman; AMC Backstory Featurette; Still Gallery; Theatrical Trailer

A wonderful comedy that looks at History in a semi-fictional but yet real setting. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED TO ALL.
This is a wonderful series, and even though it is a comedy, much of it is true. This is a drama comedy, a dramedy. The characters we see may not have actually served in Korea, but in many cases, the characters are amalgamations of people who were actually over there. We could probably call this historical fiction. The best of historical fiction has a lot of truth in it.I don't need to say much, because the people who are going to buy the complete series have already seen many of the episodes already. They, like I, know they love the series, and know they want all of the episodes in one place so that they, like I, can enjoy them at our leisure. They, like I, don't mind the artistic license. They, like I, know that there were probably some MASH units where the corpsmen had stills hidden nearby, and where they tried to get out of camp to enjoy local bars that did spring up near these portable camps, proved by one guy, temporarily in charge, that set out to prove it by moving the entire camp just for the heck of it.If you haven't seen any MASH episodes yet, and if you're not sure if you'd like to own all eleven seasons, then try to catch a few episodes on rerun channels, or borrow a season from your local public library if they have one or more. Watch a few episodes, and I'm sure you'll be left wanting more.I highly recommend this entire series, and the movie, to you, whether you love drama, comedy, or both.Do note, M*A*S*H is more serious than Hogan's Heroes. Don't judge one by the other. Hogan's Heroes was 98% fiction, though some prisoners did escape, there was not a camp full of prisoners whose duty it was to do everything like they did. My dad, who served stateside during WW2, used to say, "The Germans were not that stupid," but he let us watch it anyway. But much of what you see in M*A*S*H actually did happen. There is fiction, but I'd imagine even that fiction was based in part on truth. There were practical jokers over there. There might not have been a corporal that dressed up like women around camp, but I'm sure there were men over there that wanted to, and might have worn that type of undergarment, while serving our country.I highly recommend this series for its comedy value, and for it's look at history, albeit in a semi-fictional setting. The Four-Oh-Double-Natural, the 4077, is a place I look forward to revisiting as I watch all of these seasons over again, when I'll be able to remember watching them with my parents before Dad's death, and with Mom, afterward.

M*A*S*H TV Series + Theatrical Film
I have owned this set for eleven years (since 2013) and it us still a pleasure to watch. Most significantly, the laugh track can be turned off! Prior to this I hand made VHS recordings on BETA and again on VHS tape, pausing the recording to omit advertisements. Those first boxes of BETA blank tapes cost $180 plus tax for a carton of twelve. You can own this set on DVD for 2/3 the cost of blank tape in 1980.I stopped at this product page to look for Blu-ray versions, but none found so this is as good as it gets. The color looks a little dull to me but my laser TV is old and I am color blind. Certainly much better than any VHS tape I have. Still much to enjoy. The package consists of eleven seasonal DVD sets of three DVDs each and the original feature Film. No slip case included. The DVDs are dual layer and have (up to?) 5.1 Dolby Surround that also plays as /Dolby Pro Logic Stereo. Standard DVD cases are provided in 2013. 256 episodes total plus the film. The set uses 7" of shelf space. The studio copywrite release date is 2008. There are no liner notes.I also have a couple of the original DVD season sets from a copywrite release date of 2001which also have three DVDs each. These sets contain pamphlet type booklets of notes and chapter stop titles. They are an enormous 1 1/16" thick each. There are some newer collections in all-in-one cases, some with cardboard sleeves, some with stacked discs in a plastic box, some with fancy cloth covered boxes, some a lot less money, some a lot more money. From everything I've read, the DVDs have the same video quality the original discs have dating back more than twenty years give or take. No word on any Blu-ray versions in the works.

One of the best shows EVER!
1st of all I ordered this the evening of 7/22/13 and it was on my doorstep 7/23/13 before 6pm!!! THAT IS CUSTOMER SERVICE OF THE HIGHEST ORDER!!!This is one of the greatest TV shows of all time IMHO. All the actors did their job just about as good as possible. And the writing was even better than that. The directing was superb and so was the cinematography. The show was realtively realistic in showing what the Drs and RNs went through - losing lives - saving lives - 14 - 16 or more hour days under intense pressure. Being a pharmacist myself I understand a bit of the spot they were in. I'm NOT trying to say I understand completely as even through I have been involved in life or death situtations it certainly wasn't like what they experienced. Those of you who have watched any of these will have their favorite characters - be it Hawkeye, BJ, Radar, Klinger, Col Potter, etc. This show was filled with memorable characters which allowed it to share the 'wealth' and keeps the show interesting. To me this is a key feature of this show - no one actor had to carry the entire load in each show. This kept the show fresh even if a character would die (as for Lt Col Blake) or just leave as Radar did.I don't believe I've ever seen a MASH that wasn't at the very least very, very good. You can't say that about very many shows - that they were at least extremely good. And even thro they were made 30 years ago or so about a war that was more than 50 years ago almost of the stories as still pertinent to today problems. But yet - they still managed to have fun - mostly to keep from cracking under all the pressure.I would rate this show a near perfect scores of 9.75 to 10.0 out of 10HIGHLY RECOMMENDED FOR NEARLY EVERYONE!
