Very well made and a perfect fit, every one should have one.

This is the second camera I have bought a Smallrig cage for. There have been a lot of improvements in this time. The latest cage has cutouts for the remote control which the previous one lacked and the extra securing clips gives more confidence in the security of the camera

Love the extra mounting points and protection for my Canon R7 I don’t like the fact the access to the lens release button is very difficult to access with the cage on. But not a deal breaker.

A great addition to my R7 making it easier to hold the camera and offering some protection against bumps and knocks. Threaded holes everywhere giving options as to where many accessories can be mounted. Fits snugly around the camera and the plate section at the bottom is long enough for you to be able to stand the camera on a flat surface without it toppling over. It obviously adds a bit of weight to the camera set-up but in reality it’s not noticeable when I’m using it. Although 99% of the camera controls are easily accessible, the reason I haven’t given 5 stars is that the lens release button is difficult reach. I had previously read that this issue had been a problem for some people, but I also read that this new version of the cage had worked around it. It’s not a deal breaker for me though so overall I’m happy with the product.

Good addition the the canon R7< beefs it up a little as the camera feels light and small compared to my 7dii. Great having a built in arca swiss plate (landscape only). Plenty of threaded addon holes for lamps mics etc should you need it. Access to all compartments on the camera without issue. removal of battery and cards are not obstructed in any way. Maybe Possible issues: The screws that hold into the camera strap slots came loose (one time only). It's a bit fiddly getting my finger onto the lens release button, however not overly hard but is slightly recessed behind frame. 4/5 stars because of the room for updated version to accommodate lens release a little better and a portrait swiss arca plate (not overly bothered as a good tripod will allow a portrait angle).

I have Smallrig cages on nearly all of my mirrorless kit; M6 to R6 and cannot fault them. However, there is a slight design fault with this one, the lens release button is impossible to reach with a finger, as the cage is so snug on that side of the body. Using my control ring adaptor on EF lenses provides a little relief, but it is not ideal. The use of a pencil is required to press the lens release button otherwise. I may have to take drastic action with my Dremel (which would be unfortunate, but necessary if I want to change lenses..) UPDATE: Smallrig have noted the points in my review and have been very supportive and helpful over the past few days. I'll post further updates as we progress.

Just received the cage for my R7. I was a bit hesitant buying this cage for months. And yes it was because everyone was complaining about the lens release button. It’s an absolute NON issue for me. I only use RF L glass and have absolutely no issues with releasing the lens. I only use my finger and maybe I just got lucky with how I push the button in. Anyways the cage fits perfectly. Absolutely no movement whatsoever. Others have complained it costs so much. For the price it’s a steal. Just think of all the engineering out how to make it fit so good and then using the CNC machine to cut the material away. Plus it will also protect your camera body and be able to attach all your video accessories. Great work SmallRig. I just wish I would have bought it months ago.

Facile à monter, étant gaucher je voulais monter une poignée a gauche pour une meilleur prise et plus de stabilité.

Perfekte Cage bringt der R7 etwas mehr Volumen und schütz die Kamera ohne das irgendwelche Funktionen schwer zu erreichen sind. Mitgeliefertes Werkzeug ist sehr hochwertig, Kamera wird dank Gummi an den richtigen Stellen perfekt, ohne Beschädigungen gehalten. Ganz klare Empfehlung.

Ho sempre considerato i cage come accessori dedicati principalmente a chi lavora nel video, ma da quando uso questa gabbia per la mia Canon R7 mi sono ricreduto completamente, perché si tratta di uno strumento che offre una versatilità incredibile anche per chi come me si dedica principalmente alla fotografia macro. La struttura è realizzata in alluminio ricavato dal pieno in un sol pezzo (senza giunzioni) e risulta estremamente solida, il design avvolge la fotocamera in modo preciso lasciando accesso a tutti i comandi e agli sportelli della batteria e delle schede di memoria, cosa fondamentale quando si lavora sul campo e non si vuole perdere tempo a smontare e rimontare continuamente l'accessorio. La piastra a sgancio rapido integrata segue lo standard Arca, quindi compatibile con la maggior parte dei treppiedi e delle teste che uso abitualmente, e questo è un vantaggio enorme perché posso passare dalla fotocamera montata sulla cage al treppiede senza dover cambiare piastra ogni volta. Inoltre il sistema è studiato particolarmente bene per ciò che riguarda il fissaggio alla fotocamera; dipone infatti, oltre alla vite centrale da 1/4 di pollice e di due perni cin vite che vanno a fissarsi sugli attacchi per la tracolla. Questo significa che saranno ben 3 i punti di ancoraggio alla fotocamera, infatti anche dopo giornate intere di strapazzamanti la fotocamera è rimasta ben salda all'interno del mamba. In più tutti i punti di contatto sono dotadi di piccoli pad in gomma cosi che non si generino segni sulla fotocamera. Per la macrofotografia questo accessorio si è rivelato particolarmente utile perché mi permette di montare luci e accessori esattamente dove mi servono grazie ai numerosi punti di attacco, ho diversi fori filettati sulla parte superiore e laterale che uso per fissare bracci articolati con piccoli pannelli LED, in questo modo riesco a illuminare i soggetti macro da angolazioni che altrimenti sarebbero impossibili da raggiungere con un semplice flash montato sulla slitta. l'attacco a freddo è perfetto per aggiungere altri accessori come microfoni o monitor esterni quando occasionalmente registro qualche video, ma nel mio caso li sfrutto principalmente per montare un secondo sistema di illuminazione o lo smartphone che con la applicazione Canon mi diventa un buon field monitor. Il binario NATO laterale è un altro elemento che apprezzo molto, permette di agganciare impugnature laterali o altri accessori compatibili con questo standard, io personalmente ci ho montato tramite un braccetto, sempre di questa azienda, un pannello led per illuminare i soggetti. Una soluzione per me pratica, specialmente quando devo fotografare in posizioni scomode. La costruzione è davvero robusta e nonostante l'aggiunta di luci e accessori vari il peso rimane contenuto, non appesantisce eccessivamente l'attrezzatura e questo è importante quando si fanno lunghe sessioni fotografiche. Tutti i punti di fissaggio sono precisi e ben lavorati, non ho notato giochi o movimenti indesiderati anche dopo diverse settimane di utilizzo intensivo. Quello che mi ha convinto definitivamente è la modularità dell'intero sistema, posso configurare la cage in base alle necessità del momento, aggiungendo o togliendo accessori in pochi secondi, questa flessibilità è preziosa quando si lavora sul campo e le condizioni cambiano rapidamente. Non è quindi un accessorio relegato solo a chi fa video, anzi per chi fotografa soggetti macro e ha bisogno di un sistema di illuminazione versatile e facilmente configurabile questa gabbia rappresenta una soluzione molto pratica che amplia notevolmente le possibilità creative. Per me un accessorio molto utile e sicuramente di altissima qualità. Consigliato!
