The best charcoal pencils

these 6b extra soft have very delicate points. dont use pressure unless when u really need to cuz the point tip will likely break. very soft n delicate. but blacks are very velvety smooth n dark. easy to sharpen.

General charcoal pencils are indispensable! Especially the super-soft 6Bs. I fill up my sketch books using these pencils, the 6Bs for shading and emphasis, the 2Bs for basic drawing. Unfortunately, the 6Bs go pretty fast, but that’s the nature of them. Dark and velvety. I can’t find another brand that compares.

Love these charcoal pencils, really enjoy using them. They sharpen well without breaking and create well defined lines. LillyS

Super soft, I use them for the under drawing for paintings. A great tool.

Came as expected, all pencils are 6b and true to color. These pencils, however, are very very dark and chalky so make sure to draw with a light hand or find a 2b or 4b charcoal. I bought a lot since the tips always break off, but that's my fault since I sharpen them with a lot of force with my knife. Would definitely recommend.

These are not like they used to be! Generals charcoal pencils use to be nice and soft, giving you a smooth, easy to blend charcoal. As of late, there are hard pieces in it that have a tendency to scratch my paper and once in a while I also get rubbery pieces in it.

Delayed arrival. I am an avid user of 6Bs from General’s but the texture is scratchy and acts more like a 4B with how light it is. Now I have to revert back to my original supplier.
