Dylon Pre Dye, use Before Fabric Dye to Lighten Clothes, 200g

The box says it “may not use well “on bright blue or green but I’d bought it and the dye to cover up some spots on a T-shirt so I thought I’d try taking the colour out and re-dying. Spots faded slightly but no difference to the blue T-shirt - it still looks spotty! Very disappointing. Total waste of time and hours of washing machine use!

Was a bit concerned based on other reviews but this worked incredibly well. I had a black cardigan I’m hoping to lighten to dye another brighter colour and after one use it’s taken it to a faded purple (see pic) so going to use another box. The cardigan is 100% cotton which I think I recommended. Highly recommend but do check it works for your fabric content first as I think that’s why it may not have worked for others

Does not work even on a fabric previously dyed with a Dylon dye product!! Used as instructed on packet on a shirt that fits the description of material that should work ( according to manufacturer) this shirt was previously dyed with Dylon Dye. Shirt came out exactly the same colour. Utter waste of money. Smells awful too when in the washing machine. Avoid!!

Faded item a small amount, was expecting more colour fade, slightly disappointed

Easy to use, fairly clear instructions, I think the instructions on the dye pods are clearer so did some of the steps from that, e.g. pre wash without conditioner and then leave wet when adding the dye. I've knocked a star off because I can't fully comment on the predye, I was experimenting with a polycotton blend fabric and so wouldn't know how it fairs on 100% cotton as it is intended. I would buy this again if working with a higher cotton blend or 100% cotton, but the 55% cotton didn't seem to take it.

I used this to pre-wash a jumper I had spilled bleach on. It seemed to work well as the dye took really well and my navy jumper is now very black. One word of warning, it is not a quick process, requiring the longest wash on your washing machine, followed by washing the item, and cleaning the machine. I think it probably took in excess of 12 hours in the washing machine to complete the dye process.

I used it on 2 pillow cases and a sheet, all cotton. The very pale grey pillow cases ended up pale pink, but the mid-grey sheet hasn't changed one jot. Looks just like it did when it went in. I wasn't expecting snow white, but I am Grumpy. To sum up: the product is absolutely useless and a total waste of money.

Had a 100% cotton taupe t-shirt. It's now gingery brown! Apparently brown is a 'complex' dye and not always possible to lighten/remove. You can end up removing the lighter tones!! It would be useful if product information was a bit more, well, informative!!!
