Frankie, an aimless teenager on the outer edges of Brooklyn, is having a miserable summer. With his father dying and his mother wanting him to find a girlfriend, Frankie escapes the bleakness of his home life by causing trouble with his delinquent friends and flirting with older men online. Personally I didn't find the strange ending others have mentioned. Unlikely spoiler alert, the main character is gay. The subsequent story would be, if he accepts this or surpresses it. I think the lead actor portrays his conflict very well, and the ambiguity is evident. Certainly a good film for anyone interested in LGBT storylines.

Beautiful but depressing.
Very depressing film. Beautiful lad struggling to come to terms with being gay. But there is no resolution. We end up more or less where we started off. So why did I give it 5 stars? It's very atmospheric, very realistic, and beautifully filmed. It's only the story that's lacking.

Decent enough
Watchable and well acted by the lead actor, however like other reviews have said the plot is quite thin and the ending is disappointing and unresolved, still worth a watch though.

Excellent film
The physical DVD product quality met my expectations. The film was excellent. The subject is relevant and current.

Very sexy guy but the story is so good that it overshadows the erotic parts. I found the acting to be good and the lead is very natural. A sad story.

Was this the best gay film of 2017?
I think it just might be. Gripping, often uncomfortable stuff. Even the ending didn't bother me as much as the other reviewers.

Beach rats
Jerky narrative, some scenes were so dark that I couldn't make out what was going on, & the ending leaves you in the air. I found the main character, Frankie, unsympathetic, though he was good-looking.
