Q: My puppy learned quickly to ring bell o go outside but now also plays with it! What should I do when he rings it just for fun?

Hello- when using these and potty training our puppy in general, we did not allow her to go outside or play at all so she would not randomly hit the bells! If she does not go the bathroom within 1 minute of being outside, I immediately bring her inside.

No but I have a Great Pyrenees and a standard poodle. Perhaps with a smaller dog you need smaller bells? These could be replaced with smaller bells. We took one set off and jangled them outside with successful pottying initially and it worked for the poodle puppy. He lets us know when the Pyrenees wants out too!

Q: What if you go in and out of your door a lot? Would it be effective still even if they heard it a lot in the normal course of the day?

Yes, we did also eventually move to the wall but while training we left on a year or longer. This tool works best with consistent reinforcement that ringing of the bell means opening of the door. I have a rule that if they ring it they 100% of the time get to go out, even if it is inconvenient for me. But if I rang the bell, it depended on circumstances if they could go out or not. This was also good training for them because they can't always go outside with me just because they want to.
