The 2nd Grade Reading Comprehension Workbook for Kids: Silly and Engaging Stories, Biographies, Poetry and Informational Text to Improve Reading Comprehension and Phonics (2nd Grade Workbooks) : Modern Kid Press: desertcart.co.uk: Books Review: My incoming second grader struggled hard in the past year to become a passable first grader reader. I knew we have to breach the gap to prepare him for going into second grade. He is simply not interested in reading. He has been assigned to do one story a day since end of May. The exercise takes 5-8 mins. Read a passage and respond. There are 6-13 words per passage that he doesn't know but he is not feeling frustrated like he would with a book. The questions allow for critical thinking and helps him learn strategies in reading. Each paragraph is a specific idea and he can quickly scan back and forth when he is looking for answers knowing approximately where he needs to look. I like the format. I like the clarity. I like that it's working. We are 1/3rd through and his reading skills are stronger than two weeks ago. Review: I'm the mom of a 3rd grader and 5th grader, and we bought this for a family friend in the 2nd grade. My kids are past this grade level, and yet as they looked through the book, they loved the variety of stories and poems, and how engaging and informational they all are! The questions are enough to challenge the user but not overwhelm the child. The book is organized in a way that is easy for adults to use when introducing it to kids. Finally, this book shows how it meets educational standards, which is just a big win for doing this academic activity that feels so fun! Such a great price point for a fantastic resource!
