No pain no gain
Have had this mat since 2021 and I cannot tell you how much it helps. For those saying it’s too spiky, of course it is. It’s not going to feel amazing the first few times you lay on it, but your skin will adapt. Starting out only a few minutes or laying a very thin sheet over top can help. Within 10 minutes I can feel my blood pressure and heart rate drop, my anxiety lifts, and I feel grounded. I do this a few nights a week before bed and it helps my sleep as well. It’s held up very well for the price, the only thing I would like is if they would offer a tote or some kind of storage.

After one year of use, I can say that this helps in many ways!
I've had this for about a year now and decided to write a review. I bought a used one on Amazon Resale because it was about $10 cheaper than buying a new one. Although it wasn't sent in the original packaging, the item was almost new, had no stains or defects, and was in good condition. I lead an active life, playing sports and exercising every day, but maybe because now that I'm in my 50s, I often have pain and ailments all over my body. I've been trying out various recovery items and I decided to give this item a try after reading positive reviews. At first, it was too painful to use this on my bare skin, so I had to lie down for about a minute with a thin tank top on. All I felt was pain and didn't feel any comfort first, but after using it 2-3 times a week for a few months, I was able to lie on my bare skin without feeling like I am hurting myself. I continued this for a year and now I feel so good that I fall asleep after about 10 minutes of lying on my bare skin. I can sleep on the mat for about 45 minutes. This is a guaranteed way for me to have a power nap after a vigorous exercise and I feel refreshed when I wake up. Also, it seems to help pain in my back or buttocks when I sleep on it. Every time I use this item. I feel a great sense of refreshment and relaxation that nothing else can provide. It also helps regulate my autonomic nervous system. As for the head pillow, I never used it because it was too stimulating for my head, but recently I tried putting my feet on the pillow while sleeping on the mat and it felt really good! Now I use it only for my feet. I like it because I can massage the acupressure points on my feet which are not usually stimulated because we all wear shoes and socks all day. As for the mat, other than sleeping, my favorite way to use it is to sit on the balance ball as soon as I wake up in the morning and do some pelvic stretches while placing the mat under my feet. This stimulates my foot and wakes me up quickly. My husband likes the mat too, but how he uses is a bit different. He is 190 pounds (almost 100 pounds more than me) so it seems to hurt to lie on it (probably because of his weight?) and he says that lying on his stomach on a regular yoga mat with this mat on top of his back is just right. Either way, we both really like it.

You may want to wear clothes when using this device.
If this product helps with my lower back pain as it claims, it will be money well spent. I tried it first with a t-shirt and gem shorts but could hardly feel the prickles. Then I tried it with "less" clothes ... ouch! So, back to the shirt and shorts. I did 15 minutes, as recommended, the first time then 20 minutes. I can't tell if it did any good yet, but I'm sure it will take many more applications before I see any changes. Maybe I'll report in a few months if anything happens.

Seriously magic!!!!!!
For a couple days due to my herniated bulging disc (in my L4,L5 and S1) it took me almost an hour just to stand up in the morning. Standing up straight after that and taking a step was even more excruciating. I was worried I was going to have to get my nerve burning done again. But it was around the holiday season and I knew I wouldn't be able to get in anytime soon. So being able to not function I decided to look for remedies on here. I ran across this magical mat... And seeing so many people with the same problems I was having I was at a point I didn't care I figured it can't hurt to try! Especially because I could barely sleep because I couldn't get comfortable, walking and moving was excruciating. I was in so much pain I was just crying I couldn't take it anymore. When the mat showed up I couldn't wait to try it! I will say I was in quite a shock trying it out the first time... The pain was tolerable but it was definitely there for the first minute but I toughened through it because I figured it's better than dealing with pain all day long! After breathing and relaxing and not moving so that my body was settled. I started getting this really warm feeling all over my back. Felt amazing! It was uncomfortable to lay on but not unbearable. About 10 minutes in I honestly started to doze off! I hadn't been able to rest in days and somehow this created such a release that I fell asleep for the next 30 minutes feeling no pain(I made sure to set a timer for 45 minutes prior to laying down on the match so I didn't go over the suggested time). Getting off the first time without putting more pressure on one area was not very easy but the more I used it the easier it got and I figured out a method. I found that laying down where my back is pretty much on the mat at the same time instead of focused on one area I do a crab walk on my elbows till I'm above the mat and then slowly lower my body. The next morning though I couldn't believe it it took me maybe a minute to get out of bed it was like I was a brand new person! I really honestly did not think it was going to do that much to turn it around because nothing in the past has ever helped! I'm so glad for all the great reviews people left and I will say that I recommend this mat to anyone and everyone I can because it is a total game changer I use it everyday and have not had pain since that day! And especially for the price you can't go wrong! I used it on the floor and usually put a towel underneath my head since I'm not so fond of the neck piece I usually put that underneath my feet which feels wonderful! And I will definitely say that you're not going to get the full effects unless you lay on the mat bare-skinned. If you have back pain or knots.. or just need a good way to de-stress...this is it!!! Seriously magic!!!!!!!

Clearly evil but extremely effective
Update March 2020: My love of Spikeo (affectionate name for this inanimate object) is known through all my friends, and over time many have tried it. At least 4 of my friends who have tried mine ending up buying one. Even people who think it looks terrifying have found it remarkably soothing. One thing: About a year into my relationship with Spikeo I bought another one to live at my parent’s house for when I have longer visits over the holidays. The new one was SO sharp — turns out that with daily use, the spikes get slightly dull over time. Eventually I felt like my original wasn’t packing the same punch, so bought a new one for myself about 18 months after the original purchase. My new one is gray, which is actually quite pretty and a little less garish. I would advise everyone to get new spikes every couple years or so if you want that signature OUCH with your pain relief. Original review: I have fibromyalgia and have spent hundreds of dollars on various pain remedies throughout the years. Most things haven't really helped, including physical therapy -- the only thing that would provide relief was Tylenol and scalding hot showers. This mat appears to be invented by a sadist and it definitely HURTS, but with regular use my pain has become much, much better. It also helps relieve pain when it happens, but I've found it to be more useful in reducing pain generally rather than addressing a particular pain spot. My best evidence of its effectiveness is that I get extremely thirsty after massages and the same thing happens when I lie on the mat for 20-40 minutes. I don't know what the thirst means (a quick Google says something about the lymphatic system?) but I take it as a sign that this mat actually does something for my knotted-up muscles. I love the mat so much that I made the following meme. I hope it helps in your decision on whether to purchase this.

You get what you paid for which is not much
I’ve tried something in the past and recently feel like I should get my own set so I can enjoy it at home. This one has a lot of reviews and also good rating so I decided to get this a try. When I first got it, it’s actually extremely sharp unlike what I had before. But I figured once you have even pressure over it, it wouldn’t be a big deal, just need to get use to it. Overall it’s not bad, it is slightly shaprtwr than I would like. But that’s not what I gave it a 3 star. The reason is at the material of the fabric and the foam. The fabric is extremely thin, and it’s not a good material neither. I opened up the seam and the foam is quite a joke. It’s so thin and so support at all. It’s pretty disappointing. I know this item is not expensive so if you are right on budget and don’t mind the overall quality or longevity, sure give it a try. But if you want good quality product, you might want to look somewhere else.

Highly Recommend!!!
I’m 21 years old and shoe horses for a living. I’ve been getting stiff in my low back and neck pain. When I wake up in the morning I can’t turn my head or look up very well. When I do my stretches, I struggle with the “mermaid pose”; while trying to extend my arms and stretch my abs it feels like I’m about to pinch a nerve in my back. It’s started to concern me because I’m young, but I don’t want to pay a bunch of money for chiropractors and massages. I had first heard of acupressure mats from a Shakti ad. It looked really nice but I could justify the price. In the past few weeks my pain has gotten worse so I figured I’d give it a try. Still couldn’t justify the price so I checked Amazon. When I saw the spikes on this mat I knew it had to be good. I checked many reviews to see if it would work for me. The 2 and 3 star reviews of people saying it hurt too bad made me want it that much more. I’ve had the mat for 4 days now. The first day I laid on it for about 3 minutes. It was very painful and my sister thought I was crazy. Each day I’ve laid on it a little longer. Last night. I laid on it for 15 minutes. Here’s the general timeline for what I’ve felt: 0 minutes you’ve just laid on the mat it’s so painful it takes your breath away and your hands and feet are weak. 2-2.5 minutes you start to feel the numbing sensation, the pain is way more tolerable, and you can relax your muscles and sink in a little more. 4.5-5 minutes your back gets very warm, a wave of calm comes over you, and you feel like you can lay on it as long as you want. About 10 minutes I started to feel my pulse in my back and I was completely relaxed and calm. After laying on the mat for 10 minutes I have incredible range of motion in my neck and back. I can look side to side and all the way up with no discomfort. My back feels incredible. As soon as I got off the mat I checked with the mermaid pose and I stretched further than I have in probably a couple years. I was overjoyed. The calming sensation is also really nice. Totally a stress reliever. Initially I tried it with a shirt on and it did nothing so I went straight to bareback. Let me reiterate… THE FIRST TWO MINUTES HURT! If it doesn’t hurt it’s not working, in my opinion. Also, I put it on the floor so the only cushioning is what comes in the mat. What I wanted was a meat tenderizer for my muscles and that’s what I got. I couldn’t be happier with this thing. Another thing to mention. I saw several reviews of people saying it’s too small. I’m 5’10” and the spikes cover my whole back. I do use the neck pillow as well so there’s a strip at the top of my shoulders that doesn’t make contact with any spikes, but that isn’t what I’m targeting anyway. But for $20, you can move around on the mat if you want to target different areas it’s not that big of a deal. TLDR: Buy it. It’s cheap and it works. Painful at first and then warm and tingly after 2 minutes. You will feel amazing at 10 minutes. Greatly helped my back and neck pain and mobility. Great stress reliever.

It works.. Trust the process
We've been using these mats for a few years now. Not wanting to pay the price for a name brand, we settled on this one. It does take a little getting used to, as it is rather sharp when laying on it at first. But that's part of where the relief comes from. Any pain disappears after a few seconds before you just feel relief. Overall, for the price these mats hold up well. They do "wear" over time, as in the padding starts losing its shape (especially in the neck pillow) and the spikes start losing their sharpness. But that's after heavy use over a year or so. Still way cheaper to buy another one of these 4 or 5 times over before getting to the cost of an expensive name brand mat. Overall good value on these, and highly recommend giving them a try if you have specifically shallow muscle pains.
