Can't go wrong with this method-no matter how musically illiterate you are.
I have no musical ability at all...I can't read music. I can't sing worth a lick. I don't even think I can hum very well. I can barley tell the difference between a guitar and a tuba. However, I can play guitar and ukulele thanks to the method Justin uses. I now have three of his books and a fourth on the way. His supplemental videos (online for free for everyone and anyone) are extremely helpful when I can't figure out a strumming or tab/finger picking pattern. He has a fantastic way of teaching the absolute novice (such as myself) as well as the intermediates and experts (my teenagers--each with more than 9 years of music education instruction). Bless their little hearts-those musically educated teenagers tried to teach this old bird how to read music and it didn't go very well. I am sure they were just as tired as I was when I was potty training them. Kudos to them, they caught on a lot faster to the potty training than I did to trying to read music. Moreover, they didn't give up...like I did. Thank the Good Lord. Anyway--Justin's methods will not let you down. Check out his website and see if it will work for you. Also a quick flip through the Amazon viewer will show you what a typical lesson looks like. Keep on keeping on!

Best thing since sliced bread
justinguitar.com has made a guitar player out of me! I've bought numerous "learn to play guitar" or "beginner guitar" books and waited with anticipation only to have them arrive and find that they are not beginner books at all. They're just a bunch of songs with complicated chords that I didn't yet know (even with a foundation of at least 6 chord shapes). This book has playing tips, strumming tips, and progresses naturally by separating the book into stages where chords are added for each stage, then you get a bunch of songs with only the chords it had included thus far before progressing to the next stage (and more chords). The BEST beginner guitar book series out there (this is Volume II, i recommend working through the first volume first).Best of all, if you are stuck or have basic strumming down but want to get better, you can head to the instructional video on his website (where I started and spent a long time before learning about his products) to learn other tricks and keep progressing. His website rocks and I've now purchased numerous products from him and they are the real deal. I'm so thankful I found it.

Justin Guitar is Awesome
I wrote a longer review for Justin's Rock Songbook. Justin Sandercoe is a phenomenal free online guitar tutor and his songbooks are brilliant. Highly recommended. As my son has been playing regularly for about a year now, I got him Justin Guitar Beginners Vol 2 (rather than Vol. 1). There is plenty of new material for him to try especially as he now has an acoustic as well as his electric guitar.

LOVE
I love Justin! I can honestly say that Justinguitar and his free website helped my husband learn to play the guitar. My husband went from being able to play a few chords to playing whole songs that sound wonderful! If you are learning to play, I promise, you will not be disappointed in Justin!

Songbooks complement the free online course nicely!
Justin's website (Justinguitar.com) has renewed my passion in learning guitar. He is an excellent teacher. Justin has instructional videos on his website for the songs in the songbook, but it is always useful to have a hard copy on hand to reference while playing. The book is spiral bound and folds nicely, making it easy to read on a table or music stand while you are playing. Also, by purchasing the songbook, you are support Justin and helping to keep his excellent website free to all.

Soutenons Justin!
