This is not a sharpener but a honing tool, it complements an actual sharpener and its purpose is to maintain the knives edge (while a sharpener actually creates the cutting edge). It’s a bit on the large size so it’s relatively heavy and slightly difficult to store, but to me it’s perfect for both standard and large chef’s knives. Probably didn't need the long version so check if it's what you really need. As mentioned by others, these don't bring dull knives to razor sharp but rather keep sharp blades sharp for longer. And they make a great noise.

I got another, oval shaped sharpening steel on recommendation of a colleague and Chef. After two uses the diamond coating started de-laminating. So I thought if this brand is good enough for the Swiss Army then it sure will do for me. As a professional Chef it's important to have the right tools for the job and this steel fits the bill perfectly. It's had many uses at work and at home and shows no sign of any wear. Fully recommend this in any kitchen whether it's commercial or domestic.
