Uncle Mike's Hammer Extension - Marlin Lever Actions (1983 & later) - Perfect for 336 CS (1984) with Burris 3-9 x 40mm scope
We recently acquired a Marlin 336 CS in 30-30 Win with a serial number identifying the production date as 1984. It shoots well, though my old eyes needed the assistance of the Burris scope in order to make full use of its capability. With the addition of the scope, the space between scope and hammer got just a little tight, and a majority of the kind folks on the marlinowners forum recommended this extension. Glad they did as it works well and I would recommend it too. This hammer extension from Uncle Mike's is priced well as compared to others and it was very easy to install. The instructions talk about 'stoning' a small indent on the hammer into which the set screw can be anchored, but I found that the sides of the hammer on our Marlin already had such indents perfectly placed on either side. All I had to do was start the set screw, place it on the hammer (right handed set in my case), tighten the set screw about 90% (jiggling lightly to make sure it got properly seated in the afore-mentioned indent), and then get it nicely seated before tightening all the way. Not ape-tightened mind you, but nicely snug so that there is no play. This was not difficult to do with the supplied, very small Allen wrench. If you would like to see pictures I took of this hammer extension battery mounted on our 336 CS, please navigate to the hammer extension's main sales page, scroll down to where the "Most Helpful Customer Reviews" section starts, and look to the right of that area for the "Product Images From Customers" section. It really was easy to mount and does not look bad at all. I have put 10 rounds downrange and found the need to tighten just a little bit at the end of the day. If this continues, I will probably use a little Loctite Blue once 100% sure that the extension is mounted exactly as I want it. As it is I am completely satisfied as the extension allows quick hammer cocking without any interference from the scope, and that is exactly what I was looking for. Affordable, easy to install and does the job as described by the manufacturer. If you are looking for a hammer extension of this size, style and design, for use as I have described above, then I recommend giving this hammer extension from Uncle Mike's a try for your Marlin 336 CS too. Go for it.

Kinda loose but works well
Would have been great but the set screw stripped and now it's on forever unless i drill it out! Didn't tighten up as much as I wanted so it rattles a little

Gets loose and falls off even with loc tight
I hate leaving negative reviews, especially for uncle mike's products as I am a big fan of this brand. I am sorry, but I am returning this item. The screw becomes loose and falls out after a few pulls of the hammer. I applied blue loc tight but it does not help. I even have a notch on the hammer to accommodate the screw, but it does not help either. I got it very tight at first. I let the loc tight set and dry overnight. Tried pulling the hammer back a dozen times and it loosened up again. Allen wrench supplied with it is either the wrong size or rounded off, it does not bite into the screw head, just spins. I used my own tool instead.

Set screws are horrible
Don’t even bother attempting to use the set screws. I believe it’s a #4-40 machine screw. Socket head cap or even slotted would be better than the supplied set screws. The spur extention is excellent and on all 5 of my Marlins.

Since Marlin has stopped including the hammer extention with their guns (for the price they should still provide) this is the best fitting one I can find. Can be mounted for either side. On a couple of my guns I had to file the rounded top over the hammer for the scope to clear, not a fault of the hammer extension, moving the scope back or forward to get to clear the eye relief wasn't right and putting higher rings on meant losing cheek weld to the stock, so just a heads up if you mounting a scope to check the clearance on cocking or hammer release before you tighten everything up. It would get 5star but for one small issue, the screws keep backing off even with loc tite blue the allan key they supply with the screws was actually twisting the shank on tightening and they came loose with just a few shots. The solution I found on Marlin Owners Forum from some good soul, use 4/40x3/8" Cap Screw having the Cap Screw head the allan key size goes up and that allows you to get more torque on the screw coupled taht with loc tite blue and they haven't come loose on me yet, 357, 45colt, 44 mag, 30-30 and 45/70
