Hallucinations

This is another in the short history of Flesk Publications and, as usual, it's gorgeous.The three previous collections of Stout's prehistoric wildlife art are all high water marks in art representation in printing as well as informative, a must for all amateur and professional interests in paleontology.That said the new book is first of it's kind: a beautifully packaged and lovingly printed and bound, folio style collection of William Stout's flights of fantasy. This softcover collection is remarkably priced, with folded end cover (to prevent edge fraying at the corners), and full color reproductions of finely crafted, lush, full colored, line art created for book illustrations, brochures, ad art, as well as personal creations that cover a wide spectrum of fantastic artworks. In many examples William Stout uses a technique mastered by illustrators over a hundred years ago that adds a level of richness and warmth to the color process. These are reminiscent of late 19th and early 20th century illustrations by masters like Edmund Dulac and Arthur Rackham. Though William's work is distinctively his own it reflects a glowing homage to those who paved the way for illustrators like himself and many others.The subjects illustrated range from the timeless characters from Frank L. Baum's Oz, to Edgar Rice Burroughs' Barsoom (Mars to those unfamiliar with Burroughs' tales). In between are dragons, insect armored warriors, the faun from Guillermo del Toro's incredible film "Pan's Labyrinth" (a film Stout provided designs for), and numerous illustrations for acclaimed author Richard Matheson's "Abu & the 7 Marvels".The book design by Randall Dahlk, a favorite of publisher John Flesk, packages and showcases this artist's work with a flawless flair for detail and clear understanding of the artist's own desires in getting the book to print.I'm eager to see the next collection from this publisher and this artist.

Fantastic artwork and coloring. The book is impeccably designed with the highest quality. If you love Stout's work, it's a must have.

Excellent artwork but a wee bit short on content

Magnifiques illustrations! On m'avait offert, étant enfant, le livre «The Dinosaurs» par William Stout et j'ai adoré ce livre, que je possède toujours. J'étais curieuse de découvrir les autres univers de cet artiste qui utilise une technique simple et efficace. Je n'ai pas été déçue! Mon seul bémol, ce livre est presque trop court!
