Industry quality without getting forced into subscriptions. As it should be. Thank you Mikrotik.
I am a Mikrotik fan. Cisco and the others are always trying to make you pay subscription fees. As long as RouterOS has a lifetime license and no cloud requirements you will always have a loyal customer. I have a small data center in my home as an electrical engineer & entrepreneur. I recently suffered a horrific cyber attack withmore old infrastructure which is all suspect now. So I upgraded to Mikrotik routers and bought about 4 or 5 small units just to get started and evaluate they fit for my purposes. So far so good. I may need to upsize for my core unit(s) but for room nodes in the lab, shop, office, and main gateway/firewall they are holding up well. I have yet to begin serving across the internet again or deploy a working VPN so see how they hold up to the contact bombardment by internet vandals but I have high hopes based on the consistent sound performance I have seen this far. Mikrotik, I would gladly evaluate a CCR216 series router and shoot a YouTube video series of setup/commissioning the unit into my network and a series of videos showing the staged configuration into my network if you like, let me know. I would very much like to keep the rebuild homogenous with the MIkrotik brand. Mikrotik products are quality enough I think it would work out pretty well for both of us. I still have half a dozen server to restore back online so there is plenty to work with.

Excellent router
I have had such good experiences with mikrotik. The common os is great and this one supports gps via usb and the router can be an NTP server

Fantastic home router bordering on commercial grade.
While it doesn't offer 5 Ghz Wifi, it's a hit out of the park. The built-in 8 port 1 GbE switch helped me eliminate one other switch. The OS is called RouterOS. This mature OS allows for every setting you could ask for. It's more like a business class router with about everything you could want. In my case I needed to specify a DNS server for all DHCP addresses assigned. Most routers may not allow this type of configuration but this router does. If this router is as bulletproof as other MikroTek gear I have purchased it will be useful for many years.

A Surprisingly Capable Little Router for Small Sites and Labs
The MikroTik L009UiGS-2HaxD is the spiritual successor to the hEX line—small, efficient, and built for people who want real routing features without dragging a full CCR into a drywall closet. For its size, it’s surprisingly capable: a dual-core 800MHz CPU paired with 512MB RAM handles common small-business workloads, VLANs, basic firewalling, and light IPSec without wheezing. The 8 gigabit ports make it a clean all-in-one box for compact networks, and the built-in Wi-Fi (2.4GHz) is fine for management, lab setups, or low-density environments. Performance is exactly what you expect from a modern low-end MikroTik—snappy enough for anything up to a modest office, but not something you deploy where users measure their day in latency deviations. RouterOS gives you the usual “everything is possible, nothing is obvious” experience, but once configured, the unit is stable and stays out of the way. Thermals are good, power draw is low, and the hardware feels less toy-like than past generations. In a world of routers that try too hard to be mesh systems, it’s nice having a box designed for actual network work. There is a quirk: for all its capability, the CPU will hit its ceiling if you push heavy NAT + filtering + tunnels. You’ll know it’s struggling when your throughput politely steps aside and lets your expectations pass by. And while the included Wi-Fi works, you’ll want a proper AP for anything customer-facing. But as a small-office edge router, lab core, or smart home controller, the L009 hits a sweet spot—affordable, configurable, and far more capable than its size suggests. It’s the quiet overachiever of MikroTik’s lineup. Pros • Great feature set for the price; excellent small-site value • 8× Gigabit ports and PoE-out make it versatile • RouterOS offers deep customization • Solid thermals and low power consumption • Stable once configured; ideal for labs and small offices Cons • RouterOS learning curve is very real • 800MHz CPU can bottleneck with heavy firewall + VPN loads • Built-in Wi-Fi is serviceable, not “production-grade” • Requires more setup than other SMB routers (Fortinet, Omada, UniFi)

Bought a second MikroTik L009UiGS-2HaxD
For the non-indoctrinated, MikroTik routers are software routers that run routerOS. Out-of-the-box, it does come with a default profile that makes it useable by anyone. Simply put your ISP on Ethernet port 1 and your able to use it like any other router. What makes MikroTik special is that these inexpensive routers are programmable. The largest MikroTik server equipment down to the cheapest router runs the same operating system, so to know one means to learn the entire product line. To that effect, there are about 10 certifications that allow you to understand and implement all aspects of packet routing, wireless, security etc... This is not for the faint-of-heart but the result is that you can get the internet traffic in your network to do anything you want. You do need two routers as a minimum to be able to do these classes so I bought a second MikroTik L009UiGS-2HaxD.

great home router with al lot of possibilities, not for someone who expect out of the box solution , but with a bit of online help anyone do basic setup , once you understand the RouterOS this is a great router to fully configure and secure your home network , build in VPN server and dynamic DNS allows you to connect securely from anywhere back to your home
