will this compound work on steel machine screws?

It used to aid with conductivity for aluminum tubing and brackets used in ham radio antennas, since it contains zinc. Not sure if it works with steel, maybe use anti-seize, which contains copper, for steel ?

How is this product better or different from dielectric grease? Is it suitable for use on automobile connectors in the engine bay?

Dieledtric grease is non electrical transmitting. It helps dissipate heat evenly on a flat surface usually. The Penetrox A is made for electrical connections and for anti oxidation on aluminum parts. I use the Penetrox A for ham radio antenna assembly use. I started using Jet Lube SS-30 pure copper anti seize lubricant for electrical transmission in my antennas. As you know copper is an excellent conductor so it works very well on electrical connections, and antennas have many connections on them. The Penetrox will conduct also but the copper much more so. They both are kind of messy if you have ever used anti seize before, you know what I mean. That is about all I know, I hope I helped you in the answer I gave.
