The SARGENT & GREENLEAF U8 Safe 3-Wheel Combination Lock Change Key has been a fantastic investment, offering independence and peace of mind in managing my safe's security. Its primary benefit was changing the combination of my Liberty Safe without needing a locksmith. This saved me time and money and added an extra layer of security. Being the only one who knows my safe's code is reassuring, especially considering the importance of the items I store in it. The change key itself is user-friendly. The instructions provided were clear and straightforward, making the process of changing the combination relatively simple. Even for someone who isn't particularly handy, the process was manageable and didn't require any specialized knowledge or tools. The build quality of the key is also noteworthy. It feels sturdy and well-made, instilling confidence that it can be used multiple times without any issues. This change key is specifically for Sargent and Greenleaf Series 6600 and 6700 locks. The instructions included are for 6600 and 6700 locks and match exactly those I downloaded from S&G’s website. My understanding is that this change key works for all S&G 3-number locks. However, the instructions differ slightly on some models, so you will want to go to S&G’s website and download their instructions for other models. If you’re not sure what lock you have, it’s molded into the back cover of the lock. If you’re not sure if this the correct change key, contact the seller directly. The change procedure is simple and the instructions are clear and easy to follow. There are also some good videos online (YouTube) of the procedure. But this is vital: Do NOT close the door of your safe until you’ve tried your new combination several times successfully with the door open. And, of course, don’t forget your new combination. Remember, once you change it, you’re on your own. Any record the safe manufacturer or dealer may have is now invalid. It’s entirely up to you to remember the new combination. This tool seems a bit expensive. But, you know what’s really expensive? Messing up your safe with the wrong change key. Fradon is a respected Locksmith and this is the correct tool for S&G 6600 and 6700 locks. When you think about it that way, this key is pretty cheap.

The key worked fine. The directions on the other hand were incorrect, at least for my lock. Things to note. I recommend watching a few youtube videos about changing the lock code first. Also when rolling back to unlock the bolt, that won't happen until you pass 0 at 95 to 85. If you follow the instructions like I did the lock won't work. But because have the door open I was able to remove the back of the lock and slowly and carefully fit the key back into the lock. Keeping track of how the key is aligned in relationship to the back cover, there are stops on the cover to only allow 90° rotation of the key. Once aligned check location of the key to the cover. The key needs to be aligned with the key whole in the cover so you can remove it and install the cover. Once cover is installed insert the key and operate it a few times to be sure it works correctly. DO NOT TURN THE DIAL DURING THIS STEP. Now insert the key turn it 90° till it stops. Set the combination following the instructions. But as was stated in my instructions DO NOT ROTATE TEN NUMBERS BACK FROM THE LAST NUMBER. At the last number rotate the key 90° to the right and remove the key. Then try the combination three or four times. Also note unlocking the bolt only happens when you rotate the dial to the right from the last number until it reaches 0 and should stop around 95 to 85 to retract the bolt.

This change key came very fast and worked perfectly. I have a R6700 series lock. These are common on the browning pro steel safes. I bought the safe preowned and the original combo was unknown. I was able to get into the lock and reset the gates/dial which allowed me to insert the change key and make my own combo. So for $14ish and a little time I did it all myself. Pretty thrilled with that! There is a portion in the instructions when you are setting the new combo which prompts you to move the dial 10 dashes to the right to relieve tension on the gates. I did this many times with no luck. The first time I left the dial on the last number I wanted for my new combo and skipped the step of moving it 10 dashes, it worked perfectly. There are other places online that suggest moving the 10 dashes. For my particular lock and application that was wrong, but I am not upset about it. It's very possible there are slight lock model variations and some require that 10 dash move. *This might not all make sense if you have never used this key or read the instructions. If you purchase this key, read my review and it might make more sense & possibly help with you resetting your lock.

Included instructions were clear and easy to understand. Was able to change the combination on a 40 year old safe.

While the key did work, it did not come with instructions, as stated. I reached out to Amazon and was informed I must contact the manufacturer, Sargent & Greenleaf. They did not reply to my email. I had to source the information on my own. Poor customer service.
