Ideal for expanding a Mac mini
I just upgraded to a Mac mini M2Pro - and have lots of USB connected devices - including drives and USB licence dongles. I ordered this unit because the Mac would simply sit on top, and one connection would give me extra USB, but also SD card slots on the front. When it arrived, I discovered an SSD slot - something I had not noticed the spec included, so bought the appropriate SSD - a 1Tb one in my case. Installation was really simple - open the flap, and inside is a screwdriver and small screw. Pop in the SSD, secure with the screw and pop the flap back. The Mac recognises the external drive and that was so simple. I now have the extra memory, and lots of connections. The unit has a USB/thunderbolt style connector and that then leaves me the rest of the Mac's own connectors, plus the extra ones on the device. It is the same colour and style so I'm really impressed with it. No downsides I can find at all - it does exactly what you expect it to do - seamlessly!

Brilliant piece of equipment
Feels like an Apple product when next to my Mac mini. providing a smooth and reliable performance. I particularly love the sleek and stylish design of these products, which perfectly complement my table. This product offers incredible value for money. It has a powerful charging capability and is easy to install. I’m truly delighted with my purchase.

Excellent product and customer support
I was initially concerned that the product was not fit for purpose as it repeatedly dismounted and remounted the SSD I installed in the internal bay, and a second drive that was connected via one of the front USB ports. This would happen several times an hour, rendering it useless as a storage and backup solution. I contacted Satechi via their website, provided my Amazon order number and explained the problem. That was on Wednesday 18th January. I received a response the following day asking for my address and contact details. On the Friday I received an email from DHL to say that a parcel from Satechi in San Diego, California had been shipped. I received the replacement hub yesterday, Monday 23rd January, just five days after reporting the issue. Considering the replacement was shipped from the USA I thought this was excellent service, especially as I wasn't even asked to ship the faulty unit back. I installed my SSD into the new hub, reconnected the USB drive and left my mac Mini running overnight to see if it would replicate the same problem. The drives remained mounted throughout the night without any disconnections. Now that I have a fully working hub, I'm very pleased with the purchase. It's an excellent solution to overcome the small internal drive within the Mac Mini and blends in perfectly, giving the appearance that the Mac and the Hub are one unit. I haven't tested transfer speeds as I'm not a power user, but for my purpose there is no noticeable difference in accessing data on the fitted SSD than the Mac's internal SSD. Hopefully the replacement hub will continue to operate as expected, but I'll update if there are any problems down the line. Right now I couldn't be happier - an excellent product which is a complete solution to the limited storage shipped with the Mac and first class customer service!

Amazing hub
Using this hub for a year now with a NVMe in it and a bunch of other things plugged in - works as advertised. Sleek design. Definitely worth the money. I have an external NVMe plugged into it along with an internal one - no speed issues whatsoever. Connectivity is perfect. I read some feedback about MAC Minis heating up while sitting on top of this hub and I was monitoring this closely for a year - it's not the case at all. And as you can see on the photo it even sits under another cover, there isn't significant airflow but even there MAC doesn't heat up at all.

Well made and easy to install.
This is a very nicely presented hub for the mac mini. Easy to install and perfectly matches the form and finish of the mac mini. Most useful is the ability to install an extra sata ssd. Equally, the extra ports mounted on the front makes all the difference to the mac mini. However, there may be an issue with the WiFi connectivity of the mac mini as the hub may be shielding the WiFi antenna. Having said that, I haven't had any problems today, but yesterday I did have a number of connectivity issues. I will be monitoring this and will report back with my findings in due course.

Dreadful. Cut wifi speed by 70%. Satechi appear to have not done proper product testing.
I bought one of these for my mac mini in February 2024 and it worked pretty well. So I got this item for my brother’s mac mini. It cut his wifi speed by 70%. I ran multiple tests to make sure the hub was causing the problem. There is no doubt at all that it was. I noted that this hub was slightly different to my hub - it took a different SSD, for example. So whatever other changes Satechi made were - it seems to me - not put through rigorous product testing. I searched online and noted that others have had similar problems. One piece of advice was to wrap foil round the connection cable. That had no effect. I returned the unit to Satechi. Furthermore, my Satechi hub has since stopped working. I suggest this is not a very reliable company and that it seems to have quite low quality standards.

Fantastic bit of kit
This is a fantastic bit of kit. Essentially it is a USB C expansion hub made to match an Apple Mac Studio computer. It is perfectly colour matched and the dimensions means that your MacStudio sits perfectly on top. It has a usb c plug which connects to a usb c socket at the back of your MacStudio and provides front expansion sockets for USB A and C as well as SD card and micro SD card slots. The real trick up its sleeve is the M.2 drive bay in the base which has allowed me to easily add a 4TB NVME drive that has massively expanded the internal storage at a fraction of the cost. I get about 900mbs write speeds which is great for photo and video editing up to 4k30. Overall this looks the part is well made and works perfectly and I can recommend it completely.

I had the original Satechi Mac mini hub in space grey for my 2018 Mac mini. So when I updated to the 2023 Mac mini, it was a no brainer to also update to the latest version of this hub, this time in silver to match to the new mini, and with the addition of the M.2 SATA SSD slot. As expected, it is a perfect fit with the Mac mini sitting in the cavity at the top of the hub. While the speed of the USB ports are only 5Gb/s, that more then enough for my uses, especially with the convenience of having easily accessible ports on the front. Also, it just plain looks good with the Mac mini. I installed a Western Digital 3D NAND 2TB M.2 SATA SSD in the available slot at bottom of the hub, and it works flawlessly. Be sure you install an M.2 SATA SSD. M.2 NVMe SSD’s, despite looking almost the same, will not work. Look for 2 notches on the end for the SATA SSD where the contacts are, instead of 1 on NVMe’s.

Bien.

I installed a 2TB NVME SATA SSD in the hub’s slot in about 2 minutes; works flawlessly As well as the NVME slot, the unit has a 10 GB/s usb-c port, a (claimed) 10GB/s usb-a port and 2 5GB/s usb-a ports I guess I would have traded one of the 5GB/s usb-a ports for a second usb-c port, but a minor issue. It has a headphone port which I didn’t get to work, but didn’t troubleshoot since I use airpods anyway Finally, it has 2 SD card slots, one for full size cards and one for micro cards. These work flawlessly For less than $125 CAD, this a great enhancement for a Mac mini. Since it works as a stand for the Mac, it doesn’t take up any additional desk space. As well all the ports are accessible from the front; only the USB-C connection to the Mac is on the back For the price and features this is an excellent addition for a M2 Mac Mini
