Good ol’ US of A
Brilliant. Arrived in just a few days, packaged very well. Extremely well built, very chunky and solid and easy to install, just unhook one end of your line, line up the devices holes then pass the line through from one end to the other. Reattach your line. Go to the device and twist the ratcheted “key”. Line is wound up inside if and the ratchet holds it firm. There’s also a real ease button on a spring in case you want to release the tension. Excellent product, well chuffed, going to buy another :-)

Does exactly what it says on the tin.
Worked perfectly to tension a 5mm washing line - it also makes it easy to join two lines and tension them. Definitely recommended. Delivery was a bit slow.

Line tightener.
Great device, shame they are not readily available in the UK. Easy to install. This device is much better than the plastic ones supplied with clothes dryers (outdoor).

I recently decided that I want to save more money and was trying to figure out ways to reduce my everyday living. The spouse suggested that we start hanging our laundry as the dryer uses a large amount of electricity. I went out in search of how to hang up a clothesline, and found this product as frequently purchased together with this clothesline http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004Y75R0S/ref=oh_details_o06_s00_i01?ie=UTF8&psc=1 So I gave it a try and ordered two of these along with the clothesline. I actually wasn't sure how it was going to work yet, but I did know that I wanted to hang my laundry between two trees in my backyard that were conveniently 45 feet apart. I have no idea if I used this tool correctly or not, but I ran the line through one of the holes on the end of the tightener, then around a tree branch that's about 10 inches in diameter, then through the hole on the other end of this tightener, then through the center hole, and started winding until I felt enough line was wrapped around the center (about six turns). Then I did the same thing around the other tree, and this time tightened until the line was as straight as I could get it. Then I went back to the first tree and tightened a few more turns until I couldn't turn anymore. So again, I don't know if that's how you're supposed to use this cable tightener, but it has been working marvelously. I fill the line with clothes every weekend and it holds up fine. Last weekend I hung up all my heavy dog blankets and couch covers that were due for washing, and it was very windy. The line held up, the blankets never touched the ground, and the wind didn't cause any problems. The tighteners never loosened or showed any signs of wear. I did have to tighten once after hanging my first load of laundry, but I think that was due to the line stretching and not due to the tighteners. If the lines stretches some more, I think it will be super easy to tighten again. Also of note, there is a lever that you can push on this tightener that will allow you to release the cable if you need to take it down. I mostly keep my clothesline up, but there have been times I needed to take it down because it was in the way. So it was nice to be able to do so, and then easily put it back up. I am very happy with this result, and can't wait to see my reduced electric bill.

A simple solution which worked well for me. About 3 1/2 inches long made of (I think) cast aluminum. No instructions. You thread the clothesline through one end, through the shaft in the middle and out the other end. This can be at any location on the line. Then after fastening the clothesline ends to something as tightly as possible you use this to tighten the line further. You simply turn the handle and the line wraps around the shaft. The spring loaded latch keeps it from unwinding but can be released if desired. If the line stretches in use you just tighten it more with this. For me it solved the problem of a line which stretched when I hand heavy things on it. You will need to unfasten one end of an existing clothes line to install this. Looks weather resistant for long life.
