I find it very helpful because I can use alternative words in place of the words that I have been using. For instance, I often use 'Therefore' in my academic essays. Now, after consulting the Thesaurus, I try to use one of the following words or phrases: 'as a result', 'consequently', 'thus', 'ergo', 'for that reason'.
