![Jaws 3 [DVD]](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/71u1KAzEkZL.jpg)

The star-studded opening of a new underwater theme park is disrupted when a baby shark strays into the complex and dies. Its 35-foot mother seeks revenge for the death of her offspring, laying waste to the marine world and its inhabitants in the process. This third instalment of the 'Jaws' franchise was originally released in 3-D. Review: Unique film - This remains one of my favourite films as a child. Before everyone says I must be mad, my reasoning is that the film is unique. How many sharks films are there. Loads ! How many shark films set in a theme park? One - Jaws 3. Yes the special effects are dated, but it still make me smile when I see Shelby Overman suddenly rise up in the tunnels. Plus, who knew sharks have vocal cords. I am hoping that this box set will be worth some money in the future. Review: Jaws 3 - My favourite shark film.. I've got them all now I've bought this one.. Quick delivery, great value for money, great condition, still in packaging when it arrived.

Proper Bluray 3D
The Bluray presents us with the 2D and 3D version of the film presented in full Bluray 3D not red/green anaglyph. This it is an important film for its use of 3D at the start of the early 80s "Resurgence" of the process. 1980s 3D is what would now be called "Native 3D" in that it is not converted to 3D using computers but is shot with 2 images at the time to get the left and right eye. Back in the day 3D would be used to the full with things poking out of the screen at every opportunity, often in ridiculous ways, just to give effect and in this context Jaws 3D does not disappoint. The depth of field is often HUGE and one or 2 shots are some of the best you will see, most notably the outdoor shots when the celebrity hunter arrives and the severed arm. Some of the shots make you go a bit cross eyed because they are so extreme, and often cutting between different depth of field set-ups caused my eyes to have issues readjusting at times. Even so, the 3D makes this enjoyable whereas in 2D it's a lacklustre and comical affair with poor effects and things poking at the camera for no apparent reason. One thing to note is that the 3D process here produced the 2 images on the same piece of film with each image compressed into one half of the frame. The drawback of this is that you get twice as much grain (and grain twice the size) as you normally would from a 35mm print. The grain is visible but actually much less noticeable on the 3D version than the 2D where it is distracting at times. This is most likely down to the grain from one image cancelling grain from the other. It's not digital noise it's the grain of the original film and it appears to have been faithfully reproduced here, too much image processing may have reduced the clarity of the image. This is definitely the best quality version we are likely to get. 2 stars for the 2D version, 4 stars for the 3D version.

Excellent!!!
The 4K ULTRA HD Blu Ray disc version of this film has greatly improved sound and picture quality over the standard Blu Ray disc version when played through a 4K ULTRA HD Blu Ray player and a 4K ULTRA HD TV with HDR (High Dynamic Range).

3-d works on a 3-d TV perfectly.
I've waited many decades, and finally I saw Jaws 3-d in 3-d! I watched it on my 3-d TV with the glasses that come with the TV, and it looked amazing. It's cleverly shot so that the depth of field is always working for the viewer, with layers that jump out when viewed in this format, and the occasional special effects of objects floating out into the room to hover in front of you work fantastically well. The severed arm really looks as if it will touch you! And you can pause it to see it hanging in the air, or appearing to. I like the film anyway but this definitely adds another dimension 🤣 I am just overjoyed to be able to finally view this as the filmmakers intended in 1983.

Although not mentioned here at Amazon this local release of Jaws 3 on Blu-ray also includes the 3D version of the film (of course you still need all the relevant tech). It’s in the “special features” part of the on screen menu. What a treat to have one of the iconic 80’s 3D films for home viewing. The movie is what it is and if you’re looking for high brow cinema you are viewing the wrong film. Enjoy it for the popcorn and cheesy-ness. 2 stars for the film with an extra star to Universal for giving us the 3D experience.
