Easy To Set. VERY EFFECTIVE. Easy clean up. Reusable. Fantabulous.
II cannot say enough about this rat trap. I am SO IMPRESSED. I truly hate mice and rats but living accross from a wooded area I'm affraid it's going to be a constant battle. The only thing I dislike even more are the old school wooden spring traps. I would like to shake the hand of the person who came up with this little goddess of a trap for rodents. You my friend are going down in history. It's super easy to set these traps. Before you set the trap, flip it upside down and unscrew the little loading cup. We used peanut butter with a peanut stuck in on top. You can use your hand to undo it and put it back in. There is no screwdriver or anything needed. It's just a little half turn. Then flip it back to the correct side and place it up against a wall where you know you have rodent traffic. (where you see droppings that look like chocolate sprinkles but ytou don't want to put this kind on your ice cream) Then you can use your hand or I like to use my foot to press the mechanism down. It's the big thing in the middle that looks like a piano peddle. It's spring loaded. So you might need to put a little umph into it to get it all the way down. That is why I use my foot. You will feel it lock in place. And your good. We started catching rats on the first night. I haven't even had to change the bait for two weeks and we catch something every night. I think it's something to do with the small tunnel that makes them very comfortable. The old wood traps it was kind of hit or miss depending on how well you set the trap. Sometimes they were able to gently lick all the bait off the trap without setting it off. But not these. These are almost self setting every time. You just have to press the peddle down and it catches at the right place. I check it every morning and when I see that the peddle is back up again I know to look for a black tail sticking out. Then I just put my disposable gloves on and have my partner in crime hold a plastic bag open then I position the trap so the tunnel is horizontal and I press down on the piano peddle and out falls mr rat into the bag. Dead and stiff as a rock. Tie the bag off and put it into the trash. We have it on our back patio and we put a little doggie gate around the area so in case our dogs detect it first they can't get to it. But That is just because my silly dogs think they are ratters. They LOVE catching rats. It's so disgusting to me. When I see them do it, I'm like ok but no kisses from you today. I don't want to be near your mouth after that. But the way the trap is designed I'm not sure they would even be able to get to the rat. Maybe if they grabbed the tail and pulled on it hard enough. But I kinda doubt it. I also don't think you would have to worry about your pet getting snapped by it. The tunnel is a brilliant design. I used to put the wood snap traps out by my shed in the back and occasionally some poor baby cardnal or something would get snapped in it and I would feel so bad about that and stop using them altogether. But with this tunnel design I don't think a bird would feel comfortable going inside a tunnel on the ground level like that. So problem solved. Anyway this is a great trap and I highly reccommend it for everyone who has a problem with rats and mice.

The Perfect Chipmunk Trap
I bought a set of two of these and caught eight chipmunks in one day. I like these traps so much I bought a second set. My previous trap was a popular, galvanized metal live trap. Here's why the TRATPER is better: • The bait cup retains peanut butter after trapping a chipmunk. In the live trap, chipmunks eat the PB and smear it all over the place so you have to re-bait each time. • I think this trap catches chipmunks better or more reliably than the live trap. • This trap kills the chipmunk, which for me is desirable. Out of eight chipmunks caught, one was merely stunned and leapt out of my trashcan when I disposed the next chipmunk. • This trap is easy to empty and reset. Just squeeze the lever and the chipmunk falls out. Resetting can be a little finicky, but a couple of squeezes and you can hear/feel the trigger latch into place. I've never had any "mis-fires" after arming the trap and then placing it on the ground. • So far, my dog who is a sniffing, peanut butter-loving annoyance, has not upset or triggered one of these traps. All in all, a very well-designed product. I prefer trapping to poisoning because we have a couple species of birds of prey in our area. I am utterly delighted with this product. UPDATE • I added a piece of yellow electrical tape to the lever so I can tell from a distance if a trap is armed or discharged. • I had some disappearing bait with no chipmunks caught, so I used some dry lube on the latching mechanism. Last night I caught a field mouse.

Best Trap
I bought a 2pk of these because Massachusetts has a problem with animals being poisoned by secondary rodenticide. I wanted something for outdoors to keep help keep mice from getting up into the attic. These are amazing. Easy to bait and set in seconds. Protected from the weather, works instantly and cleanly for more humane kill. Disposal is easy too. I’m setting one up by my beehive, potential mouse that has been attempting to get in. Worth every penny.

Caught 2 rats at one time!
I have limited hand grip and overall strength (my hands are arthritic). These traps I found extremely easy to set with my foot. I also did not understand what to expect between mixed reviews on the sizes caught vs how effective the "K" shot was. I waited several months before I am doing this review and I can say I am pleased. Since 10/25, I've caught 7. It is more effective on the smaller ones where the entire body goes inside. The larger ones? Well, unless the claw trap hits just the right spot on the back of the neck, you're going to be left with one that will suffer as it is stuck. Unless it's screwed down, you're going to have a rat flopping around trying to escape. And, one time, I couldn't stand to sit there and watch it suffer, so I picked up the whole thing with a shovel and put it in a 5-gallon bucket of water to put it out of its misery a little quicker. And you'll want to make sure they are passed away before you open to release the body! This picture I'm including with the review I was able to catch TWO at the same time! One was a juvenile size and the other is even smaller. I've just been using peanut butter in the receptacle. Now, due to my hands, I do have to use both hands (make sure and use gloves) to open the claw. I do appreciate the design though because it ensures you'll never have to touch the body. I do wish future models would have some sort of (reflective) tape so that you can see at a distance if the trap has set off. So, if you're intimidated by the original spring-loaded open traps, definitely give these a try. I only purchased two and I'll be purchasing another set.

Excellent design and should work well.
