Great device
The volume control seems cheap but it works just fine. I dont ever have to dime it… it’s just fine on 60-70%. If I need it louder I just turn up the input volume on my Apollo. Raising it too high will cause unwanted distortion on the audio interface (Apollo). The unit is great. I have a variety of great bass tones to choose from by using this.

My new favorite Go to, All in One Pedal.
I have been using this pedal for about a month now, and I love it.The settings I am using currently are compression, Studio, little bit of Octave (when it serves the song),as well as a bit of flanger. I also love that it has a tuner. I run that to a small amp for monitor purposes, then DI to front of house. This is my new favorite!*Clarification of how I use the tuner: I first tune my bass with a polytune clip by TC Electronic. Then to assure that the tuning is spot on, I check with the Line 6 POD tuner- the circle turns green. I adjust as needed.

Pedalboard replacement
The sound quality is great and there are a lot of amp models to choose from. I really recommend digging in to the app so you can fine tune things like the compressor, dirt settings, and swap cabs. I personally thought most of the cabs didn't sound great, but I found one I liked and use it for everything. It's made of plastic but I don't have any concerns about it breaking. For the money you're getting Helix tones that sound really nice. To get the most out of it you may also want to get something to add 2 additional switches. One complaint is even using the 4 switch method, you can't bounce around to different presets. You need to build one with all the effects you want. This is mostly fine unless you want to be able to switch between 2 different gain pedals, which you can't do. You can always switch to a different preset, but you're going in order, so going from preset 1 to preset 3 means you have to go to 2 first. It's not a seemless switch like a Stomp would be, though you're paying a fraction of the price. You could easily gig with this or just use it for home practice/recording.

stopped powering on after 2 weeks
After 3 weeks, it no longer powers on unless I use an AC adapter. For the Podexpress application to recognize the pedal, I have to unplug and then replug the USB cable. I bought the bass version from Amazon and the guitar version from another retailer. Both have the same problems. The software is necessary to tweak settings in the patches. Changing settings with the unit requires finger gymnastics of holding down buttons while twirling knobs. I have had the old Pod XT unit for 20+ years and very satisfied. I thought pod express would be a good replacement since I just want basic sounds/effects. The sounds are pretty good, but it's obviously lower price and cheaply made. Podexpress has one fender and several ampeg amp/cab models--probably because line6 bought them--no longer offers marshall or vox but that's OK with me

Perhaps a good product for some folks, but not for me
I'm not criticizing the implementation (much, keep reading). Line 6 makes great products, I bought one of the original (red, kidney-shaped) PODS and used it for years with my guitars until somebody spilled a beer into it. I expected great things from the Bass POD Express, but when i got it, I couldn't find sounds that I liked that I couldn't get from my Rumble 40 by adjusting the tone stack. That "that I liked" in the previous sentence is key - I'm 70 years old and play old music. I don't play slap bass or rap, etc., just C&W and rock from the late 1950s to the 1970s. So the phaser, flanger, and synth effects aren't useful for the music that I like to play. Someone who uses those effects regularly might really like this thing. The one criticism that I have is that the tone stack is difficult to access. The device has two stompbox-style push button switches which suggest that you would use it on the floor or in a pedal board. But to adjust the tone controls, you have to press a smaller button and twist a knob. Bending over to do that while holding your bass with one hand (to keep from dropping it when the shoulder strap slides off) is a real challenge. I'm much more likely to adjust the tone controls than change most of the other parameters. So for me, it wasn't a good purchase, and after playing with it for a day, I returned it.

Plastic case. Less than sturdy feel.
Disappointed. Was hoping for a more professional build quality from Line 6. Their reputation is very good especially for their Helix range of pedals. Unfortunately for this POD Bass pedal, it isn't in that league. For the money expected at least a little better. Unfortunately the plastic case makes it very light and when on the floor it tends to move around when operated with your feet. It does come with rubber self adhesive feet but still not enough weight to it to keep it very secure on the floor with guitar and amp cables connected either side. On the good side I would say the sounds it produces are really pretty good and definitely usable from that point of view. Also it is quite intuitive to use with very good indication of the effects. It does look really cool from that point of view. Of course, it could easily be fixed to a pedalboard and operate very well but if I were to use it on stage I would be really concerned that any single unintentional impact could cause it significant damage. Perhaps it is stronger than I think but because it has no weight to it for a pedal of this size it gives me little confidence. In my experience although breakages don't happen often on stage the nature of live gigs is such that accidents do occasionally occur. All in all I would say this is a decent sounding easy to set pedal that looks really nice. Unfortunately let down by it's light weight and less than sturdy feel. Probably fine for many but just not for me.
