Sturdy pack for bushcrafting and general camping
Hauls a lot of gear in a a sturdy cotton canvas pack. Water proofed with oilcloth treatment and it's good to go anywhere you want it. The metal tabs on the end of the straps are merely compression for from factory so the do pop off on their own after a while. So I jumped on it while I was waterproofing the bag, popped them off and refit them with epoxy glue and compression fit, so they wont budge now.You dont need to spend $400 on a bougie bushcraft backpack, this will do more than what most folks need, especially if you can tell which end of the needle is the pointy bits and do some modifications, like sewing an extra loop of canvas on to act as an axe keep for your hatchet or scout axe and maybe also add some molle webbing if you want the added versatility.

Lots of Mileage and Still Going Strong
I purchased this in early 2009 for when I was going to the Middle East for humanitarian work. It went through every abuse imaginable for nearly 3 years. The only damage that happened was the metal ends on the straps came off. Now there is a little fray on the ends of these straps but hardly an issue. Having returned from the desert, I went back to my old profession as a photojournalist. I use this bag to carry my gear. It continues to get abused daily in rain, mud, and snow. This almost 5 year old bag is covered in stains, decorated by patches from close to 20 countries I've traveled, and carries countless memories of my life abroad. It still remains as durable as when I got it. I look forward to many more years of adventures with it.

A DECENT PACK!
REALLY NEAT!.....A Really Good Pack At A Fair Price:A really good and all around pack, Will work good as a general field pack, Or can be a mainstay Or a bug out pack!....This pack is NOT nylon O.K it's made out of Heavy Canvass or Duck and critical parts are double stitched so w care it should last a long time.Yes i was using a cheapie day pack for Hunting and my Jaunts in the woods but this pack will now replace that sic!.PROS:Good Heavy MaterialsPlaces for extra fasteners and hangersInside pouch big enough to hold a 15-16 in LaptopPlenty of room and tie downs.CONS:The Pack is NOT waterproofThe buckles and keepers ARE too small and i had to enlarge mine...Now not being Nylon this isnt a cargo or an existence pack, Buy a big rucksack w frame if you want to haul or drag heavy loadsThis pack is eerily reminiscent of British M37 pack Or our U.S M28 or 34 gear like as used in WWII!.....Yes there are 2 sizes here a 16 and a 19 in pack, So wanting a bigger one i sprung for the 19 inch and am quite happy w this one. This particular pack is bigger than the small Alice tho a LOT smaller then a 'Frame Pack' so in a way you get the best of both worlds."In short a really nice pack at a fair price as its rather a M37 on steroids and I am definitely a Happy Camper!.....So why just 4 STARS?????.1.Pack is NOT ready to go out of box as i had to manually resize the buckles.2.No heavy bottom piece stitched on, No water proof bag included...'But these things aside this is truly a good pack and a bargain for the money!.....IndianaED

Great storage value !
A good bag to keep all my odds and ends in. Keeps my Jeep organized. Seems like it should last a long long time.

Worth it
The shoulder straps will slip through the metal things that are supposed to secure them them. You have to tie a knot behind them once you have the length you want. Mine lasted me 3 years of heavy use. The shoulder straps will go first. The main part of the pack will lose its color and turn more khaki but it probably won't rip. It's really durable canvas. Definitely not a perfect bag but for $30 it's absolutely worth it. Only came back to this page to order a new one.

I would buy again if they had an updated version with different fasteners.
Pros: Great price, unique look, large capacity, extremely rugged material (I've seen GI ALICE packs at the surplus store that aren't as sturdy)Cons: Some minor design flaws that could be easily fixed, strap tends to flip when putting the bag onIt's a good backpack over all. I love the unique appearance of it (you can't find it in any store around here!) and I love Military/Surplus equipment in general. The only downsides to it are the straps. They are much too narrow other then the shoulder pads, and slip off easily. To rectify this I simply put the bag on with my heaviest jacket and tied the straps off. Another problem is the buckle at the bottom where the shoulder straps adjust rubs a bit uncomfortably. I just tied 2 OD green bandannas around them, and now it never bothers me anymore, even when the bag is fully loaded.I wish it had a roller-type fastener like on my seabag, that is much more secure, but overall I think it's great and hope to use it for years. FYI this bag is HEAVY DUTY, not just in quality, but mass as well. It feels like it weighs 5lbs empty.

Great product, got the wrong one from the seller
I had one of these for years and loved it, it served really well in tough conditions. I ordered another one in August and received instead "2304 OD European Style Rucksack", even tough the label on the product says it is a NATO style rucksack. The other product is clearly inferior, utilizing zippers and featuring much smaller front pocket and the top flap. The thing is, now I am afraid to order another one if they are mislabeled at the packaging facility...EDIT: mine was sold by Optics Planet, will try another seller.
