Great sharpening plate.
I love Trends diamond sharpening plates. Bought this one to complete my sharpening setup. Use it on chisels, plane irons, knives, scrappers, and anything else I can think of. Fast sharpening plate, of good durable quality, and cuts evenly.

Worth the price
Purchased the 180/600 combination stone recently to use specifically for establishing a bevel and/or flattening chisel and plane iron backs. So far it has exceeded my expectations. Cuts very fast and feels similar to my Shapton stones in use. Replacing a DMT coarse/fine combo plate that cut so slow I felt like I was wasting my time on it. The DMT costs about half as much but only works half as well, so the adage of “you get what you pay for” holds true here. Would have been a 5 Star review except that the plate began to oxidize almost immediately while using water to lubricate it. I refuse to spend money on Trend’s “lapping fluid” so i will have to find a better solution.

Does a great job, well made and designed. Helps me keep my tools razor sharp!

Edges not flat.
The plate and/or the diamond coating is not flat from side to side. the sides are so much higher you can’t flatten the backside of a hand plane blade or chisel. The center section is great If you are only sharpening small chisels, it should be fine and for the price is great. Just don’t wonder over to the edges.

Trend used to make good plates but not anymore.
Trend is known for the flatness of their diamond plates for lapping stones and chisels/plane blades. They charge a, premium because of how flat they are. We'll I'm here to tell you that the trend of today is NOT the trend of years past and the diamond plate quality and flatness is NO WHERE CLOSE TO WHAT IT USED TO BE. thankfully I checked this plate for flatness BEFORE lapping any stones or sharpening any chisels or plane blades, otherwise I would have really had problems. This plate on the 600 grit side (the side I'm showing video of) is about 15 thousands out of flat, at any point I can get a 15thou feeler gauge under the straight edge and a few places are more out than 15thou and closer to 20thou, these things should be within 1-3thou of flat across the whole stone face... On the 180g side it's like, 20-30thou out of flat. For reference my sharpal plate is within 2thou on both the 320 side and 1200 side, so a, mid range budget diamond plate from China is 1-2thou across the whole plate but a premium manufacturer that charges a, premium for their stones can't keep the flatness even close to as good??? Come on man, had I used this plate without checking I would have been one hot potato. Trend what is up?? I went and looked and lots of people are complaining of flatness issues??? 10 years ago your diamond plates was among the best money could buy but now days you are still charging a premium but providing products that are less flat than 20 dollar China made plates??? And not even close to the nicer plates like DMT, Sharpal, Atoma etc etc... Get your act together Trend this is unacceptable, had I used this one my chisel set or old carbon plane blades without checking it, I would have lost steel having to repair them that can never be replaced on a very old and high dollar set of USA made chisels and plane blades that my father forged himself out of old leafsprings. With this stone being that out of flat had I sharpened those chisels or planes on it just think how much steel I would have had to waste to get them back to square and true?? With the stone being 15-20thou out, that would have been a ton of steel that I would have had to remove to fix that and on really old pieces like these that have lots of sentimental value that steel can never be gotten back and would be a serious reduction in the life of the tool that will be handed down to my son. I'm really not happy, I'm not happy because of them advertising precision and flatness and while years ago they most definitely was the flatest diamond plates you could buy now days they are just another cheap China made diamond plate that's being sold at a premium by a company that USED to make premium plates. I think I would look else where if I was buying a diamond plate, some of these may be flat and some way out like mine but it's not worth the risk. Just buy DMT, Sharpal or atoma and you don't have to worry about them, they will be very flat. I'm tired of companies putting our sub par goods, from now on when a product doesn't meet my standards it's getting returned on the spot. No more keeping things just because of rhe inconvenience of returning them.

Nice plates that do the job they are intended for nicely. A cut above DMT for sure.

Works great if you get a good one?
The 1000 grit side is a champ. It is flat (just a simple check with a square), cuts aggressively and consistently. The 300 side cuts less than the 1000 side. It cuts about as well as my oilstones at 1500 grit, but not with consistentcy. Like others here, I think I got a lemon on the 300 side. I spent an entire season of Star Trek TNG before giving up on sharpening on that side. I spent over a dozen hours using the 300 side and when I went to the 1000 side, it took down the steel chisel way faster with deeper cuts in the steel. That said, the 1000 cuts so well, that I decided to try the 180/600 stone... It's supposed to arrive tomorrow.

Good for courser work.
Got this to go with my 300/1000 plate because I wanted something to faster courser polishing before stepping up to finer grits. Works well. The 600 feels very aggressive during the break in period.

Ich war sehr entäuscht bei der ersten Benutzung, weil ich bemerkt habe, dass mein Schärfstein zerkratzt wurde und dann habe ich diese drei Beulen auf dem Schleifstein gefunden.
