Great with 65 Princeton PRRI
I bought a 65 Princeton PRRI months ago and could never get it to sound right with my Les Paul. I kept trying to mess with all the tone knobs on the amp and pedals with the terrible stock Jensen speaker and was contemplating selling the amp because I just couldn't get any sound I liked out of it. Before it was ear piercing terrible highs, flubby bass, ugly mids. This speaker, though heavy, fixed every issue I had. The Princeton is known as being bassy, and I would say this doesn't "add" any bass, but instead takes the bass and makes it sound great, especially in my situation with humbuckers. The bass with the reverb now sounds wonderful. The mids are also a lot more present, giving a nice little british growl, and the highs are tamed and sound much more musical. Overall the Princeton with the G10 Gold is a perfect combo for what I was looking for -- I don't love EL84 amps that are just too grindy, and I don't love stock Fender amps that are too piercing, this allows me a nice hybrid type sound that I can't complain about at all, and allowed me to enjoy my Princeton amp.

The Perfect Guitar Speaker!!
This is the most perfect guitar speaker (for me) period. I can not believe what I have been missing on my Fender Mustang 1 amp. I had read many other reviews that mentioned the extra harmonics that are unveiled with this speaker. It is a totally different experience playing through the Gold. It is like the notes fly off magically and the guitar just disappears and you become immersed in sonic bless all around you. The bass is very strong and the speaker has a very balanced distribution with no mid humps or spiky highs. The Gold is the least fatiguing speaker I have used yet. I love the bell like tones on the upper frequencies. Others have commented on this but until now I did not understand. I also love the attack, very responsive but not annoying. I can not find words to describe how much more tone and swirly nuances float out and around you with this speaker. It makes you want to play your best for many hours at a time. Inspiring. Oh, I highly recommend open back with this speaker. I tried with closed and a lot of the magic was muted. This speaker works extremely well with modeling amps. It is very neutral and does not add any color of it's own and makes the intended tone shine. I am buying the 12 inch version right now for my other Fender Mustang 2 amp. I have had a many great amps in the past and now just play at home with family and friends. I know it might not make sense to put such an expensive speaker in a low cost amp but the Mustang V2's are fantastic and with a Celestion Gold in them, I don't need anything more. Also - The Gold sounds great right out of the box. I have not given it time to break in yet an I am totally blown away. And... it sound great even at lower bedroom levels. I have spent a ridiculous amount of money trying different speakers in the past and always thought the Gold cost too much to try. I wish I would have started with the Gold. It would have been a much cheaper quest.

This Speaker sounds so good, Huge improvement over Orange VOTW speaker!!
Ok, disclaimer I am not a guitar guru or a seasoned guitar tech, I'm just a regular guy. I own an Orange Crush 35rt which I use in the house for practice. I started looking around for a new amp because I wanted something with a fuller more rich sounding speaker in it. I wasn't crazy about the idea of introducing another large piece of gear into my small practice area. I started researching drop in speakers and I came across the Celestion G10 Gold. I popped this baby into my 35RT and my doors were blown off. There sounds that this speaker makes, I am hearing all kinds of new things come from my Tele, Strat and Les Paul. This was such an easy install, the driver is pretty big on this thing so you need to wiggle it in a little bit but it goes in pretty easy. You will need a small stubby screwdriver to work with the holes in the back. I didn't take off the control panel as it is attached with adhesive tape and it had a really nice seal on it. I wasn't going to be doing anything with the electronics so I left this alone. If you are comfortable with working by touch, than this install will be a breeze for you. 8 screws for the rear housing which will allow access to the speaker and another 4 screws holding the speaker in place. Orange uses push on connectors for the wiring so that meant no soldering. The whole process took less than 20 minutes. Man what a difference, I am so happy right now. My little combo amp has been given a whole new sound.

This is a 100% QUAILTY speaker!! My 1966 Fender Princeton Reverb has never sounded this good!
This speaker was about triple the price of other speakers but WOW the sounds coming out of my amplifier are awesome. This amp is now the perfect amp for recording in studios. I never give a perfect score of 10 out of 10 but this speaker is a 10 plus! WOW!! The sounds are warm, rich and clean. I can't even hear a buzz sound when I turn the amp on. It's dead quiet. Maybe that's because of the vintage tubes I bought for it? I would take this amp any day over my new Fender Deluxe Reverb. This speaker was made in the U.K. so hats off to those in the U.K. who make this speaker!! All in all I have just spent about $1,100.00 on this vintage amp ( new tubes, caps, resistors, speaker etc. ) but it was well worth it! By the way, I bought this amp and Fender Mustang the same day in 1966. Paid $189.00 for each. Best guitar and amp I have ever had, they have stood the test of time. Wish we could bring back the 1960's. Oh, and please bring back vintage style frets, I hate tall frets!!!

Awesome
This speaker TOTALLY changed (improved) the sound quality of my amp. Go listen to the riffs on Jimi Hendrix's Little Wing, on a really good stereo.... that is exactly what this speaker sounds like. And my amp isn't even a tube amp! I highly recommend this speaker, even at the high price.

Awesome!
Celestion G10 Gold installed in a 2nd gen Dr.Z Mini Z - replaced stock Ramrod speaker. Guitar: Les Paul Jr. P90 no effects. With much hesitation and research, I’ve swapped speakers in many of my amps and they usually helped. Previous swaps took the football (tone) from the 50 yard line to 30. The gold took the ball (my Mini Z) to the 1 yard line and center field. The tone drastically changed from what can now be referenced as cold and round to harmonically rich with a great warm balance and that’s right out of the box. The mini Z is well known to have little headroom and a crunchy breakup - that’s all still there but the tone is now sounding closer to my old 5F1 Champ and a JMP that I briefly played whereas before, it was vague and undescriptive - unique yes, but now its very unique. I briefly owned the 8” speaker Mini Z which had a stock Weber 8 ceramic and the gold just took it to another level. No buzzing or fizz either. Clean tone is way more acoustic sounding with great sparkle and chime - practically nonexistent before. Distortion is sublime and instantly reminded me of an early 50s Tweed Deluxe - still sounds like a Z but more tweedy in a Marshally/Vox way. Warm and harmonically rich - very musical speaker.

Beats a stock speaker in Princeton Reverb Reissue 1965 by an octave!
I've had a Princeton Reverb Reissue 1965 for a while and was never fully satisfied with it. It sounds really good with volume below 5, but with anything louder, the low end quickly becomes muddy and eventually turns into speaker farts on certain notes. A guitar tech suggested that I replace the stock speaker Jensen C10R with something like Rajin' Cajun, but after reading reviews and listening to the tone of G10, I couldn't resist the temptation. Put the Gold in, and OMG, what a difference! The cleans are incredibly warm and chimy at the same time and don't break until the volume goes to 6 or 7. Even more impressive, a distortion pedal sounds creamy and with almost endless sustain, even without using the feedback from the amp. For reference, I use Tech 21 Fly Rig in front of PR, and with this amp this is just a killer combination. Highly recommend this speaker to any owner of a PR. It'll turn your $1,000 amp into a $3,000 amp. I listened to some sound bits of Carr Rambler on YouTube, and my PR with the Gold is a fair match for it now.

Going for Gold
Maybe the best speaker Celestion makes Have two of them and two eminence 90’s blue frames in a Marshall 410 (To die for) One caveat for those who purchase alnico speakers: You MUST allow them to break in before judging Unless you’re playing through them incessantly or running a continuous audio program for a period of time, it’s apt to be a slow process One hack helps hugely courtesy of Ted Weber: Downey Wrinkle Release (available right here on Amazon) Cone papers are chemically treated during manufacture exactly as textiles and therefore are initially stiff (See where we’re going here?) It works
