DETECTO 339 Mechanical Physician Beam Scale with Height Rod, Dual Reading KG/LB

This is an old-fashioned mechanical weight scale. It doesn't plug into the wall or use a battery. Nor does it have a memory to store your readings. It won't connect via Bluetooth to your computer or a mobile device. And you won't need to download an "app" to make it work. Sorry, but it's not voice activated either. Believe it or not, you make it work by using your own hands (imagine that). My unit arrived well packaged and without any sort of damage. Assembly is easy and only takes a few minutes. Using a Philips screwdriver, attach the column to the base with six (6) screws Once assembled, use a level to make sure the platform is level. If not, use a self-stick pad or some type of shim to level it as needed, (Detecto really should have designed this scale with some adjustable levelers). Once leveled, use a flat-blade screwdriver to turn a screw to calibrate zero. That's it. To weigh yourself, simply step on the scale and slide the weights until it balances. I find the readings to be very repeatable. But while being weighed you need to stand still. If you start waving your arms about or rocking from side to side it'll take forever to stabilize. I offer no scientific evidence, but I believe this scale is accurate to within about 1/4 pound. So what's the real appeal of this "antiquated" scale? I've owned several digital weight scales. After a few years they quit working and I threw them in the trash. And then I bought another one, etc. Unless you abuse it, this Detecto scale should last a long time. Spare parts are available if needed. And it looks pretty cool too. And while it costs more than a cheap digital scale, I think the price is quite reasonable for what you get; especially when you consider that it was made in the USA.

Product was shipped in a timely manner, all parts included. Instructions were easy to follow and what minimal assembly there was, I completed in 10 minutes to include unboxing. I see no reason this product wouldn't last a lifetime of daily in home use (my intended purpose.) The test-retest reliability of the scale is an impressively narrow margin - perhaps less than 1/10th of a pound. This scale must be placed on a hard, flat, and level surface. I chose the concrete slab in my basement and used a level to find a good place. If you are not using a level to determine a suitable location for your scale, you are simply not going to get the accuracy and precision that this scale is capable of displaying, and this is true for every scale, in my understanding. US Made, of sound construction, and delivered free of defects. I saw some reviews claiming similar products were inadequately packaged to prevent shipping damages. I didn't find that to be an issue. This scale is replacing a digital scale which gave weight data that was obviously a product of some sort of formulaic modification - it never gave a straight answer. This scale only tells you your weight, and doesn't fudge the numbers based on electrical impedance, previous scale weight, activity levels, etc. Just the correct weight, both precise and accurate, and right every time. Sometimes, old fashioned isn't old fashioned, it's tried and true.

This is the only way to get an accurate weight if you are concern with your health. Detecto 339 is far superior to all the digital weighing machine. It is also durable and reliable. No failure!

We assembled this with ease - however, this is made terribly. We are returning it. Thankfully they are going to pick it up from our door after we DISSAMBLE IT and put it back into its original packaging. The slider does not slide with ease.... the weight is also sticky... it balances very strangely. It is NOT like the one that we are replacing, also from DETECTO. We are replacing the last one because it was damaged in the move. Sadly, we are ordering another scale.... a floor one.

The Detecto Eye-Level Scale 339 that I purchased was easy to assemble and has worked reliably. It takes about as much floor space as I'd expected. What it lacks in portability it more than makes up in ease of reading and precision.

I bought this to replace my unreliable digital scale, now I know what I really weigh. Yikes!!!!

I ordered this Detecto 339 mechanical physician's scale on 9 JAN 2021 and it arrived 14 JAN 2021 using Free Shipping. The box was sightly damaged, but the contents were in perfect shape, being packed in product-fitted styrofoam. An instruction manual, screws + washers, and a tool were included. I used a pair of scissors to cut the box straps, but the only other tool needed was a regular size Phillips Head screwdriver. In addition to being packed in form-fitted styrofoam, each part was in a plastic bag. After unpacking all the parts, I followed the recommended Installation Work Flow by first attaching the Pillar to the base with the eight included screws + washers using the screwdriver. Second I connected the long lever in the base to the hook inside the pillar. The base is steel and the levers in the base are what appear to be cast iron. Third, I installed the height rod. Fourth, I installed the wheels. I did have to align the shelf lever assembly under the beam headpiece, but that was very easy to do. Fifth, I balanced the scale. Five easy steps. I expect this scale to last many years. So far, I am very pleased with this purchase.

I wanted to purchase one of these for years. I finally got one and it is the real deal. There are no digital problems to deal with. It does not vary with movement, like several digital scales we had. It is rock solid and gives you the truth!
