A toy for all ages of cats
I've yet to see a cat that doesn't like to play with this toy. From the time my cats were kittens to just before they passed at 17 1/2, they enjoyed playing with it, They might not have been as fast in their old age, nor able to jump high, but they loved chasing it around - and I tired of playing with them well before they did. I noticed the comments about fraying wire, but I've used one of these that I purchased in 2019 and it is still going strong - entertaining my new 6-month old kitten. Given its price, I think I've more than gotten my money's worth.

My cat loves this toy and it is very worth it
Came here to buy my 5th one. My cat loves this toy. Has a life of probably around 3-6 months depending on play time. It comes apart from the top where the wire attaches. The string usually ends up coming undone and it slowly falls apart. Wondering if I'll find a way to make it last longer but for $11, can't beat it.

Winner. Well worth the price.
All four of my cats go bonkers for this thing (including one hard of hearing/vision) I have, quite honestly, never found such a huge hit! I've never found an easier, or more fun way, to wear out 3 high-energy Siamese mix and a DSH that never wants to play with anything. The pole is more than sturdy enough for repeated use, the wire is thin and flexible. My favorite bit is the swivel and the lure (obviously) as my cats and I are of the same opinion about them. The swivel makes enough noise, of just the right kind, that it is neither loud and overwhelming, not too quiet for my disabled cat. He doesn't much care for toys with bells, so the jingle of the swivel is an excellent compromise. Beyond that, you can swap out the toy, which is awesome. For the lure - HOLY COW! I wish all mice toys were made like these. it's very lightweight, which makes it easy to skitter across nearly any surface (I haven't tried running it through syrup, but I imagine that particular surface wouldn't work to well ~_^) and because of how the body is designed (I believe it's horse hair or something similar) my thievish hoarding cats (3/4 of them) can't get a good enough grip on the toy to make off with it; it slides right out from under claws or teeth most of the time. They have already learned how to hook it just right so that I can't take it back, but it's difficult for them to accomplish. The tail of the lure is a thin leather strip, and my cats adore chewing on it. It's a bit thin, so I doubt it will hold up over time. This toy so fascinates my cats that I honestly think it will serve as a bonding toy; if they can all play together with the same toys, everyone gets friendlier. This could help relieve tension when adding new cats or probably even some dogs (my huskies used to love chasing rodents). Also a great bonding tool between human and cat, especially if human and cat hate each other. I also discovered a cheap way to get feather refills for this thing; craft stores are now selling bunched feathers with the same kind of loops on them as the toys have, and for way cheaper than $5 each. I found them at both Michael's and Hobby Lobby, though I have not checked elsewhere. This toy is an excellent way to get my cats, en masse or individually, to go where I would like them, whether that's out of the current room, off a piece of furniture or a shelf they shouldn't be on, or if I want them on their trees or shelves or something; they will follow this thing anywhere, even tired. Edit after 1 day of use: the toy part is broken. My cats tore the tail right off, not with their teeth, but just pouncing on it repeatedly, poor mousie. I take this as a direct indication that it's a hit, as well as less-than-ideal craftsmanship :p Downgraded to 4 stars for not lasting more than a day. My cats still love what turned into a mole.. There's a bit of plastic between two puffballs; the tail and last puffball fell off, but the plastic part sticks out like a mole tail. Still good enough.

My cat is addicted to this toy...
Simple, durable cat toy. The sport fishermen out there will immediately recognize this setup as a "mouse" connected to a 3 foot braided stainless steel fishing leader with a snap swivel on one end that is connected to a 12" plastic wand on the other end. This is like "kitty crack" and my cat comes running from anywhere in the house when she hears this come out of the drawer. Pros: - My 7 month old kitten loves this toy more than any food treat. She will chase it until I am arm weary from flicking it around - like an hour - Compact size, easy to carry and store in a drawer. I had it in a box and my cat knocked the box off a table trying to play with the mouse - The stainless leader is nearly indestructible because it's made for sport fishing for game fish like walleye and northern pike - fish with teeth! - The mouse seems well constructed, it's lost an "eye" but it's still in great shape after heavy use - I read many of the horror stories and scary reviews that this toy is a death trap waiting to kill your cat, knock out their teeth or blind them. With supervision, care and common sense, I haven't had any issues. That being said "supervision" and "common sense" are keys. Cons: - I don't have any from my experience other than to reinforce that this is a toy that requires adult supervision and common sense because the braided stainless steel leader has no "give" and it has a metal swivel on the end that could cause issues if you zing it around like a miniature bullwhip or fail to respect the fact that the steel leader could be like a garrote - a hand held wire used to slit throats. In summary, with proper vigilance and supervision, this is an excellent cat toy and my cat goes nuts as soon as I take it out of the drawer. If the cat is sleeping somewhere I can't find her, all I need to do is start swinging this toy around and she shows up. Great fun and a solid cat workout toy when used with simple common sense. Update - the wire leader broke but it was simple to fix. The leader pulled through the plastic end and I fixed that by drilling through the handle and reattaching the leader. For $7 it works well.

Best cat toy EVER
I got this because I could not afford the $15 version that had all the good reviews (broke college student). As I was unwrapping it my cat was going nuts trying to play with it. When I got it out my cat went NUTS playing with it. This product comes with a warning saying to put out of reach of the cat when not in use. I did not understand that until I started playing with it and my cat. This is my cats all time favorite toy. The toy is PERFECT!!! Instead of a string, it comes on a wire. The thing that the cat chases (I got the mouse) is small and detachable (good things). The toy mimics a fly in distress at times which makes my cat go nuts trying to get it. It is very well made. I have only had it a little over a week, but it is holding up AMAZINGLY. I think that this would make a good gift for anyone with a cat. My moms lazy cat loved this. My cat gets soo worn out playing with this that he is panting for 10 minutes and resting for hours after a 15-20 minute play session, which has never happened since I have had him. I have found nothing wrong with this toy. If it ever breaks I will buy a new one. I think that they sell replacement ends to this for variety or if you cat eats the one it comes with. My cat when he catches the toy will NOT let go, you have to force it out of his mouth. UPDATE 1/8/14- I have had this toy for 1 year now and it is still my cats all time favorite toy. He still goes insane for it and waits by where I keep it. After 1 year of heavy use the only damage is that the tail has come off of the mouse. Other than that it is in perfect condition and is holding up better than any toy for any animal I have ever had. I have bought my cat countless toys over this past year but this one is still by far his favorite. This toy has kept my cat from becoming very overweight. I have actually had to increase the amount of food I feed him because this toy keeps him really trim. I can not recommend this toy enough for any cat.

Fun but doesn’t last more than a few days
I have 4, two months foster kittens who absolutely loved this. I had to hide it at night. Well my cat got it and damaged it overnight. She’s 7 and loved it also. Then within another day it completely fell apart leaving strands all over the place. So sad because it was a great toy but it didn’t even last a week! The string is intact so I will try and clip another toy to it. I’ve bought other wand toys with the fishing wire and kittens chew through that. So I’m still on the search for a better wand toy.

This one is a winner! Picky Kitty's favorite toy.
My five month old kitten absolutely loves this toy and she is apparently the pickiest cat ever. I have wasted a lot of money on various other toys she barely plays with if at all. I've bought all sorts of balls, mice, mice that squeak on a motion sensor, sit on the floor wobbley bobbley things with feathers attached, tracks with balls that roll around, tunnels, etc. etc. and I guess my particular kitty isn't all that interested in anything that doesn't seem to move by itself. I've also bought other toys that were similar to this one and she was interested in those as well but due to a more obvious connection method she would eventually realize that I was running the toy, lose interest and either walk away or become more interested in my hand instead. With this toy the connecting string is actually a thin but flexible wire that is not so obvious and the little mouse seems to be just the right size and somewhat realistic. As you drag it or wiggle it, it seems to move just right to capture her attention. This toy gets daily use and she never seems to get tired of it. She has a lot of energy and I don't know how long she would keep playing with it because I always get tired of playing before she does. I saw some of the other reviews that mention it not being very sturdy but the one I received does seem very sturdy. I bought this a couple months ago, it is still in perfect shape and seems like it will last a long time. The wire will no doubt last much longer than a string would and the mouse and wand part show no wear so far. I've even accidentally stepped on the wand a time or two. I would never leave this toy out for your pet to chew on or play with by themselves though. If that were the case I can see where it may not last as long and it seems like it would be difficult to break but if it did somehow I feel that it could dangerous if your cat was able to possibly eat parts of it. If you use this as intended, where you run the toy, your cat chases it and you put it away when done, it seems to me it would last a very long time. This is the best thing I've purchased for my kitten and I have already gotten more than my moneys worth out of it. I would absolutely buy it again.
