I was able to install openwrt with passwall and singbox with help of LLMs. It works for now.

Better than expected quality and features.

Great little toy. Too bad that the vpn setup is flimsy and that I had to resort to manually uploading configuration files to make it work with NordVPN.

Tambien possible de connector con VPN (todos tipos) y ZeroTier/WireGuard. Una de las características que más aprecio es la capacidad de crear una red segura mientras viajo. Esto ha sido invaluable para asegurar mis datos en redes Wi-Fi públicas. Además, las opciones avanzadas de seguridad y la compatibilidad con múltiples protocolos VPN garantizan una navegación segura y privada en todo momento. El diseño compacto y ligero del Beryl AX lo hace perfecto para llevar en mis viajes. No ocupa mucho espacio en mi bolsa y es extremadamente resistente. I'm not someone who usually leaves reviews, but I felt it was worth commenting on this particular item – the wireless travel router. I haven’t explored many of the advanced features (like VPN or file sharing), but for my needs, this device has been near perfect. I’ve been travelling between hotels and Airbnbs lately, and I use it as a bridge for the internet provided at each place. The big win for me is being able to set my WiFi name and password to match what I use at home, so all my devices connect automatically without needing to reconfigure them at every stop. Whether it’s my laptop, iPad, or phone, everything just works the moment I arrive and plug it in. It handles hotel login portals easily, whether it’s through a username and password or a web-based login. It also works fine with cabled internet connections. The signal range is much better than I expected for such a compact device. It’s whisper quiet, uses minimal power, and the user interface is simple and straightforward. It makes hopping from one accommodation to another much less painful from a tech setup perspective. If I had one minor complaint, it's that I can't find an option to view the total data usage across all connected devices. You can see individual device usage, which is helpful, but I’d love to be able to reset and track total data used per location – especially when dealing with limited WiFi quotas in Airbnbs or hotels. That aside, I’d highly recommend this device for anyone who travels regularly with multiple devices. It’s affordable, efficient, and genuinely makes life on the road a lot easier.

Altijd een beetje sceptisch geweest over travel routers, maar achteraf is het typisch zo'n "dat had ik veel eerder moeten doen"-aankoop. In de afgelopen vakantie in meerdere situaties gebruikt: 1. Via ethernet in een modern Landal huisje -> bijna 2x zo snel als het Landal access point en een duidelijk groter bereik. 2. Als repeater naar een super slecht netwerk van een hotel met gastlogin pagina. Voor mijn laptop was het signaal te zwak om uberhaupt verbinding te kunnen maken, maar de Beryl wist in een hoekje van de kamer toch nog een signaaltje op te pikken met als resultaat uiteindelijk toch nog een prima bruikbare internetverbinding in het hele appartement van een paar Mb/s voor het hele gezin. 3. Via tethering met m'n iPhone, aan een powerbank op een plek waar helemaal geen Wifi was. De power user kan nog met de out of the box beschikbare OpenWRT Luci GUI vanalles instellen, maar de standaard GUI/app zal in 9/10 gevallen alles doen wat je nodig hebt. De automatische failover tussen tethering/wifi/ethernet werkt ook prima en vrijwel onmerkbaar voor de gebruikers. Eenmaal ingesteld werkt hij stabiel en is het "plug en play". Hij is energiezuinig ook, je haalt zeker wel een dag op een beetje powerbank, als het niet meer is. Kortom, een prima en veelzijdig apparaatje. Het enige wat ik nog handig had gevonden, was een extra ethernetpoort. Deze gaat de volgende vakantie als eerste in de koffer!
