2005 GMC Sierra - unclear instructions
Picked this up to add a backup camera to my 2005 GMC Sierra. I added this to the SJoyBring D006. Connection to the radio was easy with just one wire and AV connection. The issues came at the tailgate end. Picture quality isn’t crystal clear but you can clearly see everything when backing up including the hitch. Wasn’t expecting 4k so I’m happy with it. I had to drill a hole at the bottom of the tailgate to run the wire straight down. Wire from camera is just long enough to exit the bottom witch is needed if you want to access the plug to remove the tailgate later on. The plug and and wires looked a bit flimsy so I heat shrinked them to add more support and added electrical grease in the plug to make it water tight. Wiring instructions weren’t clear for the camera end. You have a red wire with fuse, green wire and black wire. The red wire provides power to the camera and should be connected to the reverse light wire. The black is the ground. The green wire runs the length of the harness to the radio end. This wire needs to be connected to the reverse wire with the red wire to the camera. This is how the radio knows the vehicle is in reverse and to activate the radio screen. The green wire needs to be connected to the backup camera wire on the radio wiring harness. The yellow AV cable was a bit loose when plugged into the radio so I crimped the sides a bit to make it snug. Overall I’m happy with camera. It gives the truck a factory look and clear enough picture for a backup camera.

First Camera Bad, Replacement Good. Instructions and Wiring Harnesses Suck!
I’m giving this item two stars and adding 1 back for Amazon’s quick replacement of the original, defective camera. If Master Tailgaters (MT) had proper QC and a consistent product, I would give it five stars. Unfortunately, they don’t and you will pay a price for their oversight.Bought this item because the price was right and it was the only backup camera that had an “OEM Look” for my venerable 2000 Silverado. I did not want a license plate camera or a surface mount that I would have to find a creative way to install. The MT tailgate handle looked ideal and I was excited to get it.I found the tailgate fitment to be very good. Other reviewers have noted issues in this area so I had concerns prior to installation. The bezel was solid, the cabling was the perfect length, and the connector was small enough that it exited the bottom of my tailgate without issue (no drilling or bending of metal required). This part of the install was a snap.Next came the video/power connections. The harness that came with (defective) Camera # 1 (C1) had green and black wires on the tailgate end of the cable + a fused red wire. The cab end had an RCA video connector and same green wire (no red wire). I deduced that the grn/blk wires were the reverse circuit. The instructions stated this would power the camera. Not true. No mention was made of the red wire. With the reverse circuit and video connections done, the display would switch to the camera feed (grn trigger) but the screen was black. Decided the red wire was important despite not being mentioned so I connected this to 12V but still no joy. Tried Amazon’s tech support option but they were as much in the dark as I was so they sent a replacement camera.Camera # 2 (C2) showed up and I connected it to the truck with and without red wire power. Learned red wire power is required and C1 was defective. Note that harness # 2 was different than the first one and still didn’t match the instructions. Upon seeing C2 work, I had to run ANOTHER cable from tailgate to cab to connect to switched power! Had I known this the FIRST time, it would have saved me a lot of time, aggravation, and very colorful language. Since it is required, it SHOULD ALREADY BE IN THE HARNESS!NOTE: WHAT YOU GET IN THE BOX IS INSUFFICIENT TO COMPLETE THE INSTALLATION!Thanks MT. You’re just…special.Other reviewers have commented on image quality. The resolution of the working camera looked like garbage when I tested it on an HDTV. Sorta Minecraft-ish. However, the image quality on my Kenwood Excelon head unit is fine and I have no complaints on this front.Bottom line: Buyer beware. Assuming you get a functional camera, you can make it work with some effort and the result is satisfactory. Getting from A to B is the challenge. Go in with your eyes open, and you might want to pop for the insurance on this one…

You would think higher price = better quality, not in this case
Purchased this more expensive backup camera, however it is the same quality if not worse. Does not come with protective sleeve for wire, so you will need to add that yourself. Instructions were very unclear, and was not even for the camera shown.TDLR; Buy the cheaper model as it has a sleeve and is half the price this thing is not worth the money.

Working as expected
Spent the day wiring up my new rear view camera (2nd camera) for my 2013 Silverado 1500. The old camera I had lasted just a few short weeks until fall weather kicked in. Needless to say I was greatly disappointed that it failed so quickly even after the company said it was water proof. It rusted pretty fast too during the winter. It was a standalone camera I mounted under the handle where this new camera is integrated into the handle frame. A much nicer arrangement. Plenty of wire came with it, so not a problem mounting it other than having to get down on the ground to do it. It was nice that the whole video wire was encased in corrugated tubing to protect it when underneath the truck.Just a few things that took a star away. The camera wire with the square connector was barely long enough to make the hole underneath the truck bed, probably should add another couple inches in favor of the connector, so that it can be more protected under the truck. I added a piece of corrugated tubing to cover the wire as well. The hookup arrangement I have required me to buy an RCA connector coupler, because the video wire had a connector I wasn't expecting. Not a big deal since I used a wireless transmitter device from the previous camera, and wasn't prepared for the mixup. The camera works nice, but was a little disappointed it didn't have the distance lines in the view like the old camera. My guess is that the factory video screen would probably display the lines instead. I'm using a phone video app over a wireless connection, since the truck doesn't have a screen. I also hooked up power to ignition instead of reverse wire, so that the wireless connection won't be interrupted every time I pull forward. I have a separate foot switch to turn off the camera when not in use and the truck is running. I mainly bought it to help hook up a trailer.Overall it was still worth the effort if you are willing to spend the time to hook it all up yourself.UPDATE 6/27/17: Used it for the first time when hooking up trailer. It will take some time getting used to the video image. Picture is okay, but not great by any means. Could be a combination of WiFi transmitter, software and/or camera image quality, but I can't complain given the setup. Unfortunately, both the hitch and the trailer tongue are dark in color which makes it difficult to know when the hitch ball is under the tongue. Might have to colorized the ball once, like using an old tennis ball or something.

Great product, worth the purchase
Quality of the product is on par with much more expensive cameras available on market. Installed on 2011 Sierra 2500hd Duramax. Camera connected to Sony xav-3200 double din stereo. Make sure you put a protective loom on cable as it exits tailgate and along path to truck cab. Length of cable is more than adequate.

So far so good!
Install was quick and easy. Bezel fitment was spot on. The connection in the tailgate is a great idea but the only downfall is the power and ground wire was to short to get into the cab. The #1 failing points of back up cameras is external connections under the vehicle.Video Cable made it into the cab with 6' to spare.I unded up using a waterproof exterior junction box to make my connection under the truck and extend the power and ground wire into the cab.We get hit with lots of salt in the winter and the last thing I need is for those wire to corrode. If the manufacture sees this we would love an updated cable with extended power and ground, same length as the video Cable 👍

Works pretty well
Wired this up to a Pioneer avh-x4700bs head unit, and it worked right from the get go. Even in the dark, it shows an alright black and white image. It hooked up easily, and came with plenty of wire length to install in my extra cab Long box pick up. My complaints are: it would be nice if the wire tail coming off the camera itself was a little longer, so the connection out of the tailgate was easier to access, for when you take the gate off. Also, for the price, I feel that the camera is kind of low quality. But i did just take it on a 4hr drive through sloppy, wet, freezing mountain highways, and the are no issues yet. Hopefully it stays that way. The bezel also doesn't seem to stay held tightly to the tailgate face. I'll be putting a bead of silicone on there too hold it in better.

great product
I installed this camera into my tailgate on my 2001 Silverado. My working daily with aftermarket parts usually leads to frustration because of poor quality and fit. This fit really well, not perfect but well. It was a bit sloppy when I first installed it, so I took it out and removed the foam pads because they are thicker. I took the pads off my old bezel put really thin two-side tape on both sides of the foam put it on the new bezel and installed it. That made the bezel fairly snug. I also added super bright LED bulbs to my back up lights. It works very well during the day and night.

Low quality camera
Its just not great. Picture is not very clear. Hooked it up to three different screens, and they were all a blurry. Not great in low light. I'm keeping it because who knows what the other are like and it's cheap. Guess you get what you pay for
