August DVB502 HD SSD Set Top Box

Works well, easy setup, plenty of storage, happy with purchase

This is basic after having a humax before but does the job. Took me a bit of setting up and couldn't figure out how to record when I turned tv off and needed help from customer services, who were very helpful I have to say. Records 2 channels at once but other than turn channels over no other functions work while recording eg. Can't play recording until it's finished which is bit of a nuisance as like to join a programme while it's still going so can skip through adverts, and can't get on epg while recording. But am getting used to it. Picture quality is good. Very good for the money.

This is my personal experience of the August DVB502. It may be unique or could be something that other potential purchasers should be aware of. I purchased the August DVB502 Freeview HD Set Top Receiver Box as a replacement/enhancement to an IRiver Set Top Box that was working correctly. The IRiver product had a limited recording facility, whilst the DVB502 has an enhanced recording facility. I have an older Panasonic television with a SCART connection but no HDMI . When I connected up the DVB502 Set Top Box via my existing SCART lead, the picture was black and white. It had been colour with the IRiver product. When I disconnected the DVB502 and reconnected the IRiver set top box, the picture reverted to colour. I contacted the August support service and was advised that the support service believed the problem was likely to have been with a faulty SCART lead. I purchased a new SCART lead from Amazon and repeated the set-up. Again the picture from the DVB502 was in black and white whilst the picture from my original IRiver set top box was in colour. I went back to the August support service and received the following: "I can not provide further suggestions for alterations to the current set top box in order to allow for the colour otherwise. I can therefore only suggest that the product is returned at this time following the Amazon return procedure." I returned the August DVB502 Freeview HD Set Top Receiver Box the following day.

Just got this last night and I'm annoyed at it already. When you are recording something it prevents you from accessing the epg. Also it flashes rec on the screen. There is no series link. If you select something to record then it moves back to the start of the day. The epg has gaps in it. If you pause it and watch the program behind then you can't turn go into the epg to record. If your watching TV and want yo scan the guide then it changes the channel. Picture doesn't seem very good either it's OK but just OK. Set up was OK. Remote is abit cheap and nasty.

Wow what an amazing piece of kit. When we moved to sky glass we lost the ability to record programmes and couldn't access talking pictures and rewind TV. So I checked this little box out all you do is plug the TV Ariel and off you go total Freeview and the build in storage to record programmes a week in advance. Great price and a great product 5 stars.

Wouldn’t recommend Found this box difficult to set up and use- (never had to program a remote before) The manual came in handy as it took 3 adults in my household to set it up) Deleting recordings has been trial and error and it doesn’t say in the manual It does work but has really tried our patience

August TV recorder unit. It works brilliantly + does record the TV channel at the fraction of the cost of some recorders. Ordered this to replace a previous tv recorder that had broken. Our only complaint is, if you record a program, then whilst it is recording it, it practically freezes the remote control + you cant really use the remote. We had previously had a Manhattan recorder + it suddenly stopped working after just 4 years. We did not want to spend over a £150.00 on another recorder to just record the odd tv channel.

Parfait. J’aime bien enregistrer des émissions de TV pour les regarder ensuite. Mon disque dur externe a crashé (11 ans). Cet enregistreur connecté à l’antenne de toit permet de voir une chaîne et d’en enregistrer une autre. La capacité de stockage est limitée mais on peut enregistrer aussi sur un autre support (pas encore testé). Super simple à installer (cela m’a pris 5 minutes) et assez intuitif. Je recommande cet appareil parfait pour mon usage.
