Garage Door External Emergency Release Device – Round Flat Key Type with 3' Cable

I bought this for an electric roller door, I have ours fitted to the outside to give more room in the garage, the fitter never fitted a lock and simply left the hole in for the emergency winder in the event of a power outage, I simply cut off the cable and drilled the hole to 26mm and fitted the lock, better than paying over £56 for the same product without a cable on, it simply removes the barrel of the lock leaving a nice hole to insert your emergency long key, cheap and secure fix.

I had been looking for a cable release system to replace the system installed with our new door about 3 years ago. The old lock had somehow seized and the flimsy key would not even enter the lock (it seems most of these are now made poorly). The key and cylinder of this system are much more robust and mechanically smooth. Feel fortunate to have discovered the need to replace the cable release system before a power outage would have resulted in such discovery. Check your current hardware dimensions first: The hole required for insertion of this hardware (2.54mm/1") was larger than my existing hole, but the mounting holes were spaced the same (~38.5mm/1.5"). Length of insert for lock cylinder is ~ 40mm/1.6". See pics.

After blocking up the rear access to my garage I needed to fit an emergency release mechanism. This was easy to install and is a very effective way to release if the motor should fail
