I am using these with middle school kids. Are they hard plastic or will my students be able to put holes into them with a pencil or pick pieces off?

The plastic is hard covering styrofoam but if kids stabbed it hard enough with a pointed pencil i suppose you could dent and make a hole. i used them for ornaments-Irish potatoes.

No, they are solid, probably styrofoam and I used them as lucky Irish potato ornaments.
