Shoulderpod S1 Professional Smartphone Rig, Tripod Mount, Filmmaker Grip

This is a must have accessory for those who shoot video or professionally using an iPhone or other smartphone. It's an obvious accessory for use on a tripod or suction cup mount, that becomes more obvious when you start using it handheld. It is made of a lightweight, strong plastic body, that doesn't expose internal parts. The knob to adjust the mount is easily turned with one hand, and feels well made as well. The weighted handle and leather wrist strap are great additions to this device. I never leave home without mine. When used with a light weight phone, it adds enough stability and grip to take you to the next level. Pros • Lightweight, simple, compact design • Weighted for more stability • Threads into a standard camera plate • Matte black to cut down on glare • Quality made • Rubber pads are designed to hold a variety of devices • Simple rounded design cuts down on wind noise for fast moving action shots Cons (really stretching for one here) • Doesn't seem to be a gasket inside the tube to keep out dust or dirt Spend the extra $10 and get the mount that won't fail on you in the field.

I've had the Shoulderpod S1 over a week and have used it to video my grandson's birthday party. Shot lots of stills outside and inside and I couldn't be more pleased. I was hoping this would be a helpful for shooting with my 6 plus and I was way right. It's not perfect. As mentioned in a few other reviews your never quite sure if the mechanism that tightens the grip is staying tight so I think most of us will check it periodically. I know I do and I've never found it loose. Sure some kind of lock set would be a welcome improvement but it shouldn't be a deal breaker at all. It feels well made, it screws down tight and can take that extra 1/4th turn to be sure. The strap works and also adds another sense of security. I've taken the bottom part off and screwed the system to a monopod, tripod, gorilla pod and I've had nothing but great results. I've read a comment about it not working in portrait configuration but for the life of me I can never figure out why someone takes stars away because it doesn't do something it never said it could and was obvious from all the information provided was never meant to do. It's kind just as silly as those who take stars away because of a delivery problem that has nothing to do with the product. Anyway, if you've got a 6 plus (I've got the Apple leather case protector on it) and are interested in this product read the reviews and feel comfortable that this will do what it say's it will do. I think the price is fair for the quality of the product. My only issue is the name, ha! Maybe Handpod S1 would have been more accurate.

This is a good product and it does provide a better phone balance while shooting videos. It can also serve as a stand to keep your phone in inclined position while working it. The base holder that screws on to the grip is solid, made of metal and the plastic of the grip is also high quality. However, if you use it with a large phone like Galaxy Note line of phones, you end up extending it to the point where the top part of the grip gets angled back. Your phone is still held securely though. I hope this high quality plastic (specifically the lower barrel will not fracture with use. I also wish the metal base was a bit longer and had some kind of rubberized surface for a better hand grip. If you have big hands like I do, holding this base will not be very convenient.

As a minimalist photographer who went from massive amounts of backbreaking Nikon gear to shooting nothing but rangefinder style cameras, I truly appreciate gear that is worth more than it's own weight. This is exactly that product. The S1 is a versatile minimalist tool that provides a variety of uses and will directly and immediately impact both iPhone still photography and video. The product arrives very nicely packaged. Out of the box, the S1 sets up in less than a minute and feels like a quality product in your hand. In no way does it feel cheap. Installation on your phone is a few seconds. Instantly, you will have an ergonomic handle making it much easier to hold the camera for landscape orientation photography and video. On our first use we noticed an immediate improvement in both iPhone still and video photography. In still photography, the internet shutter shake was nearly eliminated. In video, the shakiness from holding the iPhone during video is eliminated allowing you to pan smoothly. Hand fatigue is also nearly eliminated.The product is well balanced, takes up very little space, and truly turns the iPhone into a better photo/video tool. I keep it in my EDC bag and it does nearly everywhere with me now. Also, the S1 has a quality tripod attachment point allowing use on all tripods, making it even more versatile than you would expect. I read a new version is in production but not released (the S2). I would love to see what improvements they made, although arguably, none was needed.

I've used this with a Samsung Galaxy S5 and Apple iPhone 4s and think this is a great piece of gear. As I describe below, there are a couple of things that I think would improve the product, but that's just my opinion. The jaws on the Shoulderpod S1 have a wide range and are easily adjusted. The slightly V-shaped channels are generously padded with foam and provide a firm, but yielding grip. If you grip your device firmly, it is not going to be flying off to parts unknown. The main body of the Shoulderpod S1 provides a substantial grip.But forget about carrying your device in your shirt or pants pocket. There's a 1/4-20 socket on the bottom to which you can attach an extensions approximately 2 inches long. This extends the Shoulderpod S1 grip. There's also a hand strap you can sandwich between the main body and the extension. It too is well-made. Overall, the S1 provides an excellent stable grip for your device. I like it a lot. But I think it could be improved by providing another 2 inch extension, giving you 4 inches total handle which will be much more flexible and, in my opinion, stable grip. I also think the Shoulderpod folks ought to consider proving a 12 inch handle as well to give you the option of different viewpoints. An excellent product, which I think could be improved a bit. I agree that Shoulderpod S1 has the best design among all cell phone mount. It's round, no sharp edges and more sturdy than other mount that only use spring mechanism to hold the phone in place. It's the only cell phone mount that looks cool where as all other mounts make you look stupid. I especially like the extra rubber padding on the top and bottom grips to protect the phone from being scratched. The reason I give only 3 star is because of the workmanship/precision of the Shoulderpod. Yes, I agree with other reviews that the packaging, the design and the idea are all pointing to a top quality product. However, there is one major flaw. The issue is: The main and the only screw is not precisely machined/sized to fit the the hole that it screws into. I would say the diameter of the screw is about 0.5mm or 1mm smaller than what it needs be. The result is, you can easily wiggle the the screw quite a bit implying the hole is actually slightly bigger than the screw. (I don't mean when the screw is almost at the end of its thread. Even when the shoulderpod was minimally extended, think iPhone 4, I was still able to wiggle the screw back and forth quite a bit) Of course, situation is worse when a wider phone like Note 3 is used. Also , after tightening on the phone , you will notice that the top half (the extended half) and the bottom half are not really at a straight line. (and you don't have to overtighten to see this). They are at an angle because when tension is applied, the screw and the extra spacing let the screw set at a slight angle. Because of this, I sometimes worry that mount is not secure enough and that the screw might come off after certain number of uses. Overall, I still think shoulderpod a good product but I certainly hope that they can fix the issue mentioned above in their future release.

I ordered this during my visit in the USA. During this trip, I discovered I enjoyed video more than photos so, I found I needed something I could use with my Galaxy Note 4 in order to set in on a tripod and get a better grip while recording. After a LOT of research I settled to this product. It grips my Galaxy Note 4 perfectly with room to spare (for a larger phone), as a matter of fact I tried it on an iPhone 6 Plus in a BIG case and it accommodates it just fine too. The grip holds the phone, and the tripod mount is standard so you can use it with every standard dslr tripod. The handle has a little weight to it, so when you screw it on it serves as a handle and also helps you stabilize your hand by lowering the center of gravity - it's not like a huge effect, but it is an improvement while recording. Overall, I would recommend this product without any hesitation. I am a very happy buyer.

While on the hunt for a travel tripod, I came across the Shoulderpod S1. What a find! I'm using this thing all the time, as I practice taking less shaky videos. The Shoulderpod helps a great deal, especially for someone like me with big hands and fingers that are hard to keep away from my smartphone viewfinder when I'm trying to take a quick pic. It is built solid, with nice, grippy claws that hold my Nexus 6 in place without having to screw too tightly. The strap just fits over my big hand, but it gives you that added assurance that if the thing slips, your precious phone won't end up shattered on the floor. The grip isn't super long, but it's long enough for me. I love being able to shoot without actually having to grip my phone by the edges. The fact that the bottom of the grip unscrews to allow you to screw the Shoulderpod onto a tripod is such an added bonus. This thing is a multipurpose accessory that is well worth the price.

Ich benutze den Shoulderpod S1 für mein iPhone 5S hauptsächlich um Videos zu drehen. Mich hat vorher immer genervt, dass das horizontale Filmen sehr umständlich war, da man das iPhone in dieser Position einfach nicht so gut greifen konnte und man das Gefühl hatte, dass es einem jede Sekunde aus der Hand fallen könnte. Mit dem S1 wollte ich diesem Problem vorbeugen. Und glücklicherweise habe ich die richtige Wahl getroffen, auch dank der guten Rezensionen hier, auf YouTube und auch auf Amazon.com. Die Halterung besteht aus Plastik und Aluminium. Letzteres verursacht doch ein für diese Größe beachtliches Gewicht, was aber letztendlich beim Filmen überhaupt nicht stört. Trotzdem war ich vom Gewicht ein wenig überrascht als ich die Halterung ausgepackt habe, vor allem positiv, da ein ordentliches Gewicht einem das Gefühl von robuster Qualität gibt. Laut dem Hersteller ist die Handgelenkschlaufe aus Echtleder, ebenfalls ein Pluspunkt zur Verarbeitung. Das Einsetzen des iPhones ist wirklich einfach und schnell gemacht. Man sollte ein wenig aufpassen, dass man nicht zu viel Druck auf die Klemme ausübt, da sonst das Gerät beschädigt werden kann (s. dazu auch die Nutzungsempfehlungen des Herstellers, die der Lieferung beiliegen). Die Klemme ist höhenverstellbar, sodass so gut wie jedes Smartphone eingebaut werden kann. Die Gummimulden halten das Gerät sicher an Ort und Stelle ohne es irgendwie zu zerkratzen. Mit einer Schraube auf der Oberseite der Halterung befestigt man sein Gerät und dann kann es auch schon losgehen mit dem Filmen/Fotos machen. Durch den Handgriff und der Handgelenkschlaufe liegt die Halterung mit dem eingebauten Smartphone wirklich gut in der Hand und man hat so viel mehr Bewegungs- und Handlungsfreiraum. Man muss sich nun keine Sorgen mehr machen, dass einem das Telefon aus der Hand fallen könnte. Ein weiterer Pluspunkt ist dass durch den festeren Griff die Bilder und Videos allgemein viel ruhiger, stabiler und ruckelfreier werden. Man hat automatisch mehr Kontrolle, jetzt wo man sich nicht mehr ums ordentliche Halten kümmern muss. Fazit: Für Hobby-Filmer wie mich ist diese Halterung eine optimale Anschaffung. Es ist robust verarbeitet und tut genau das, was es soll: das Smartphone sicher an Ort und Stelle halten, sodass man sich als Filmer aufs Wesentliche konzentrieren kann.

Ce n'est pas le seul grip du marché et certainement pas le moins cher, pourtant, avoir essayé deux précédents grips, c'est clairement celui que je préfère. La finition des accessoires est exemplaire (jusqu'à la boîte, vraiment soignée) ; tout inspire confiance, solidité et qualité. Le grip peut être utilisé aussi bien sur des barres à selfie que sur des trépieds et n'abîme pas le smartphone. Le réglage se fait en dévissant une molette, agréable au toucher et assez précise. La petite poignée est très utile pour faire des plans à la main, sans trop s'encombrer, tout en offrant une nette amélioration en terme de stabilité (le gros problème des smartphones en règle générale). Vraiment très satisfait par ce produit, utilisé par bon nombre de journalistes et amateurs de vidéo sur smartphone, et que je recommande sans hésitation à mon tour.
