I'm using this encoder to monitor the absolute position of a door that controls air flow to a wood stove. My application is low speed and I only read the encoder when the door is stationary. In this mode of operation I find the encoder is very repeatable. It is performing according to specification. I would recommend this encoder.

Strong built, for extensive and hard job. I used it for a Motorcycle power valve position, it works very well.

I used this to report shaft angular position on a robot scanning rotor.

I got this to play around with it. It's very simple to use. Put 5 V on the power pin VCC with the negative terminal to GND, then you'll get an analog output voltage from 0-5 V on the OUT pin. This is very much like a potentiometer in behavior, if you put 5 V across the two outer terminals, and took the output off the wiper. However, I think this is superior for a few reasons (I'm guessing on a few of these)... 1. You can probably spin this faster than any practical potentiometer with a wiper. 2. It probably lasts longer (more total rotations) 3. Most potentiometers don't spin around 360 degrees; they have stops at each end. 4. I think the action around the transition from 5 V to 0 V, which happens at a specific angle of rotation, is smoother than any potentiometer would be. In general this sensor is very well built. Materials look to be high quality, the feel of the shaft as you spin it with your fingers is extremely smooth. It's not cheap, but I think it's worth the price.
