One of My Favorite New Tools
Works great; heats up quick and is super sturdy. I use it to heat the plywood edging to make it smooth. Game changer! Just used it again today on some custom cabinets.

Sealing irons are getting harder to find
As the RC model airplane hobby and market changes, sealing irons are getting harder to find. Back in say 2005 there were lots of local hobby stores--and every one of those stores had half a dozen sealing irons in stock. They didn't cost much--most of them were less than 20 dollars. But the foam avalanche from China arrived, and modelers new to the hobby didn't build balsa airplanes. And so they didn't need or want covering films to cover the balsa airplanes they weren't building As a modeler for the last 45 years I've used and worn out a lot of covering irons. And I needed a new one. And they were not to be found in local hobby shops (come to think of it, it's hard to find a local hobby shop these days). Anyway, Amazon had one--the price was a lot more than those old ones sold for less than $20. This one had a minor technical advance--you can set the termperature digitally to the exact degree. But what the heck there are just two temperatures you need "hot enough to tack' and "hot enough to shrink". Most of us who still use these irons can find those temperatures with just a little patience. But these irons are sort of the only game in town now, and if you need one, you just pay the price. I will say that Amazon sells these for a few bucks less than other places.
