Not sure why all grinders aren't like this ! ? So easy to use & fill - forget aching hands & wrists from twist grinding - this is a godsend🙂

Ordered these [bought more than one] for my neighbour who has mobility issues and they've found that this back and forth ratchet action is easily manageable. They look smart and have lasted so far without fault so I recommend this product.

My old pepper mill's handle had developed a split and needed to replace it, but needed one that was not the twist type, as I found that difficult with arthritis in my fingers/hands. This ratchet grinder is perfect, it is very easy to fill, easy to adjust how fine or coarse you wish the pepper to be. The most important part is how easy it is to use for grinding the pepper on to food, just move the handle back and forth and out comes the pepper, it feels effortless, and certainly painless.I wish I had one of these ratchet type pepper grinders years ago, I may purchase another to use for rock salt, well worth the money.Updating to add that I purchased another of these to use with rock salt, and it works seamlessly and provides me with finely grounded salt that is again very easy to grind on to my prepared food.

This grinder works in a distinct way - you swing the top handle from side to side rather than twisting anything. This makes it far easier to use, particularly for extended grinding sessions. A small flip lid in the side is used to pour in more pepper/herbs/whatever and the fineness of grind can be adjusted via a wheel in the bottom.However there doesn't appear to be any way to disassemble the unit for cleaning, so if something unpleasant gets inside, you can only try (and hope!) to grind it out. It also may spur further purchases for other grinding tasks (coffee/cocoa beans?).

Really high quality item, well designed and easy to use. We have tried various rotating pepper mills and battery powered ones. This is much better, easy to fill and far more robust, without needing to have a super strong grip or wrist. Highly recommended.

I have been through countess pepper grinders that give up the ghost after just a few months. These have included brands such as Oxo Good Grips. I purchased the Kuhn Rikon Epicurean Steel Ratchet Grinder and have not looked back since - even my Mother of 91 who has chronic arthritis in both hands can use this grinder with ease. Perfect grinding - regardless of which setting you select (course or fine), easy to fill, easy to clean, a dream to use and yes - I am totally sold. I would say go for the Steel version - the other models are plastic and to be honest I would question their durability long term even though I have absolutely no experience of this so could be totally wrong - the choice is yours.
