The GAIA Sprouter Highly Nutritious Sprouts on Demand Why are young seed sprouts so good for you? Because they're packed with bio-available enzymes, phytonutrients (plant chemicals containing protective compounds), vitamins, minerals, amino-acids and proteins, all easily digested and absorbed. About the GAIA Sprouter For sprouts to grow in the GAIA Clay Sprouter, only a small amount of space and basic equipment is needed. It does not depend on the seasons, nor does it require any fertilizers. The GAIA Sprouter consists of 2 growing trays, base and lid. The growing trays are made of unglazed earthenware that is highly porous and able to breathe allowing the absorption and release of moisture to maintain a constant level of humidity. The lid and base are glazed to make them non-porous and easier to clean. Each sprouter is hand-assembled to the best fit and comes with an instruction guide. The GAIA Clay Sprouter is suitable for sprouting seeds, germinating beans and pulses and growing plant shoots, microgreens or grasses. GAIA Clay Sprouters are hand-crafted and have the GAIA brand mark on the side of the sprouting tray. Ideal for sprouting Chia and other small mucilaginous seeds...
such as Chia, Cress, Flax, Mizuna(Japanese mustard), Radish and Rocket. This type of seed is best grown by sprinkling on a porous surface that has been pre-soaked with water. Other types of sprouter tend to fail, because the seeds become too wet and turn into a gelatinous mass, like frog spawn. A gentle, twice daily watering is best done with a spray bottle, possibly more frequently during dry warm weather. When the shoots start to appear you can separate the two growing tiers and place them in sunlight until ready for harvesting. Although I purchased it with this purpose in mind, it is excellent for all your sprouting needs.The Gaia Sprouter is a quality compact product, with a rustic feel, that will grace any nook and cranny in your kitchen. The item arrives well packed, thus minimising the risk of damage in transit. It is easy to clean, with a look that screams organic nutrition. Just right for sprouting for one or two people - I love it.

But my first lid had a perfect finish and the replacement lid looked like a second
After a couple of days my sprouter lid exploded due to an air bubble in the ceramic. The replacement lid sent out was a different shape (flat rather than domed), colour (olive rather than vivid green), with a much smaller handle and had cracks, drips in the glaze and a very 'pitted' surface from air bubbles. I was told it is completely normal to expect such large product variations as each lid is made by hand. But my first lid had a perfect finish and the replacement lid looked like a second. Now I have a lid that does not match my sprouter base. I have since tried some mung beans and radish sprouts in it, and good for mung beans, but the radish seeds went through the holes in the ceramic, and some have got stuck in the holes. So a lot of hassle for the money for me.
