Now I have to admit I do have a soft spot for a nice heritage inspired watch. And this fits the bill perfectly. I have wanted to add a panda dial to my collection for a while and have looked at the black on white versions by other well known watch makers. Something I never quite round to buying as something else always came along that just caught my eye. I have in my collection an original 1970’s marlin hand wound and still keeps excellent time. A testament to Timex as a long standing maker of fine watches. I wasn’t sure I was going to like the silver dial at first as the white just has something special in the overall look, however I took the plunge and boy am I glad I did. This is a beautiful looking watch and definitely one of my favourite chronograph’s that will sit alongside my 1963 hand wound chronograph from a not so well known maker. So to the watch itself. The black sub dials on the silver do have a wonderful retro style along with the indices and numerals staying faithful to the originals as does the acrylic domed crystal as stated in the description that just adds to that vintage feel, unlike most modern watches this is not a huge lump on your wrist, more of statement, it has an elegance of bygone days when watches where discrete and served one purpose, that of telling the time. This does look and feel like a more expensive watch The overall finish is excellent and the casing is stainless steel that feels robust and sturdy. The start/stop button has a lovely mechanical click and feel when pressed. Seiko’s mechaquartze movement meaning the large chronograph second hand has a mechanical like sweep when running and a fly back when reset is pressed. The jubilee style bracelet is solid links and easy to adjust if not a little fiddly when replacing the pins. However once adjusted this feels very comfortable on my wrist. The only real gripe on the bracelet for me is no micro adjustment but the links are small enough to allow a good fit. I had to remove 6 links and this will allow for a slight swelling of my wrist as temperature fluctuates. I have ordered a vintage leather motorsport inspired strap to replace the bracelet which I believe will add to the vintage appeal. I have now added the marlin 3 hand to my wish list much to my dear wife’s displeasure. The title says it all, my watch enthusiast friend also like it and wants to order it. I was expecting the dial to be more "white-ish", is a strong silver, very comfortable on the hand.
