The book provides an easy-to-follow approach for using baby sign language to enhance communication before verbal speech begins, a technique that’s been gaining popularity for its ability to reduce frustration and promote early learning. ### **Content and Structure** The book is structured to be user-friendly, with clear, step-by-step instructions for learning and teaching 101 essential signs. It starts with an introduction to the benefits of baby sign language, such as improved communication, reduced tantrums, and stronger bonding between parent and child. The author emphasizes how babies, even as young as 6 months, are capable of learning and using simple signs to express their needs and emotions long before they can speak. Each sign is introduced with a brief description of its meaning, followed by clear, illustrated instructions on how to make the sign. The illustrations are simple, showing the proper hand and finger positions, which makes it easy for parents to follow along. Some editions also feature photos of babies performing the signs, which adds an extra layer of visual clarity. The book is organized into categories such as "Food and Drink," "Daily Activities," "Emotions," and "Animals," making it easy to learn the most relevant signs based on your child’s immediate needs. This categorization is incredibly helpful because it allows parents to focus on signs that will be most useful in their daily routines, like signs for “milk,” “eat,” or “more.” ### **Ease of Use** One of the most notable strengths of **"Baby Sign Language Made Easy"** is its simplicity. The language used is straightforward, and the book’s format makes it easy to pick up and start using immediately. Each sign is accompanied by a brief description, making it simple to understand the sign’s meaning, and the step-by-step directions are easy to implement. The book doesn’t overwhelm you with unnecessary detail, keeping the focus on practicality. The concise nature of the book is perfect for busy parents who don’t have hours to dedicate to learning. Instead, it encourages a gradual, stress-free approach to incorporating baby sign language into everyday interactions. You can start small with a few essential signs and gradually expand your child’s vocabulary as they grow and their needs evolve. ### **Educational Value** The value of **"Baby Sign Language Made Easy"** extends beyond just teaching signs—it’s also about fostering a deeper connection with your child. Using sign language allows babies to communicate their wants and needs more effectively, which can lead to less frustration and fewer tantrums. It’s a wonderful tool for early childhood development, helping babies build a foundation for language skills while promoting cognitive and emotional development. The signs themselves are carefully selected to represent key aspects of a baby’s world, from basic needs like food and sleep to emotions like happy, sad, or angry. The emphasis on communication through body language encourages babies to become more aware of their own gestures, setting the stage for improved social and verbal communication skills as they get older. ### **Pros:** - **Clear, step-by-step instructions** with easy-to-follow illustrations - **Practical and user-friendly** format—ideal for busy parents - **Wide range of useful signs**, including those for food, emotions, and daily activities - **Promotes early communication** and reduces frustration by helping babies express their needs - **Strengthens the bond** between parent and child - Great for **beginner sign language learners** and parents who want to start immediately ### **Cons:** - The book doesn’t go into deep detail on the **linguistic aspects of sign language**, so it may not be ideal for those looking for a comprehensive study of American Sign Language (ASL) - Some readers may want more **cultural context** or advanced signs, especially as their child grows older and their communication needs become more complex - The **illustrations** are simple, but there might be a slight learning curve for parents who have never used sign language before ### **Final Verdict** Overall, **"Baby Sign Language Made Easy: 101 Signs to Start Communicating with Your Child Now"** is a fantastic resource for parents looking to enrich their child’s early communication skills. The book provides a straightforward, engaging way to teach baby sign language and offers practical tips for incorporating it into everyday life. Whether you’re a first-time parent or someone who’s already familiar with baby sign language, this guide is a valuable tool to help your child express themselves long before they can speak. Its simplicity, clear instructions, and relevant sign selection make it a must-have for parents seeking to reduce frustration and enhance their connection with their little ones. If you're looking for a no-nonsense approach to baby sign language that gets straight to the point, this book is a great choice. Review: Favorite book to begin with compared to others - I am so glad I got this one! I also got some other books but they are better as references. For starting this book is perfect: 1. Everything you need to know to start is condensed to 23 pages. It’s concise and it’s thorough and informative, well written and well edited. 2. It’s colorful and easy to read. For someone who needs to skim fast, it’s super easy to get the information very quickly. 3. Pictures are amazing. Whoever illustrated this is a genius, the kids facial expressions actually match the signs which is not something you get in most books!! Part of sign language is facial expression and this book brilliantly captures it. E.g., the sign for “dog” has the boy actually looking like he is saying “here boy!” 4. I will use this book the most at first, and as we add signs later will probably use the other reference books. 5. each sign has “what to look for” or similar signs so you will more easily detect baby’s imperfect first tries of signing so you don’t miss it. Very very useful. I think this book goes extremely well with the Baby Sign Language flash cards by Monta Briant and I’ll be using these two things together.

Arrived scratched up and very dirty
Giving it 5 stars because it's a Great book but 'new' book arrived grimy, dirty and all scratched up. I can't believe it made it out of the warehouse. Amazon soft side package was perfect.

All the basics and more
This book is everything I was looking for and more. It’s organized very well and the pictures along with descriptions of each sign make it so easy to learn. There are lots of extra tips throughout the book that really help with how to effectively teach your baby like recommendations of books and songs. And I absolutely love that it explains what it might look like as your child is learning each sign so that you know what to look out for. Very informative!

Attention- Moms, Grandmas, Aunties, Caregivers
Signing should be on every new mothers list of thing to teach your baby. The tinies really can learn to communicate their needs. This book is a good place to start, a few meaningful words will make a huge difference. And it super easy to learn and teach. Four stars only because the pictures of the signs could probably be made more clear. Never the less, good book, good price.

Great book. It's not too long and it goes to the point quite quickly. There's a brief introduction at the beginning of the book and then it goes directly to the signs sections. I find the tips for each sign very useful because sometimes it's not easy to understand the sign from the picture. Looking forward to start signing with my daughter!

This is a really fun and educational book to help you as parents teach your babies how to communicate via sign language while they are still non-verbal. Both of my children enjoy learning new signs and our communication has been made quite a bit easier.
