Good quality and value but quite basic
I bought this to use instead of the inbuilt DVD player on my Seiki TV which hardly ever works and am pleased to say this played has given me no such troubles! Took a while to connect the scart lead to the TV properly and get a consistently clear picture, but it's now perfect and I've had no problems with using it every day. Be aware that it doesn't have HDMI output, just a scart lead, so don't be fooled into ordering an HDMI cable to go with it (like I was). Only other complaint is that it doesn't seem to be able to adjust the picture to fit the screen for all DVDs, but this is a minor issue. Overall this is quite a basic DVD player but for what it is it's good quality and exceptional value.

Welcome back for a trusted British brand -a household name first used by me in the 1980s and greatly missed ever since!an absolu
A great relief to be finally reviewing this little pressie for my infrequent DVD usage, needed but unfortunately, not regularly enough to spend more than 30£,as online download and streaming services r easier and more manageable..but for safety on occasions like when there's no broadband for many days, like a few weeks back, needed something for a safety net emergency etc etc usage...Handy little unit, with ease of use, reliable picture quality,a great lightweight feel for portability and an absolute joy and wonder to look at!it is am amazingly attractive with the right kind of grip on the reality of reliability in an electronic sense of the word...For e entertainment value,PHILIPS can u please keep me posted on whether u'll do smart mobile phones as well...had a unit many years ago ...still remember it as kept finding it everywhere for a almost a decade even though the Android, and ios sort had been introduced...nothing worked on it anymore..but the body and the cover, slightly cracked maybe, but still visible and still dismantled in same old order...keep up the good work!!! Excellent value for money
I was replacing a very old player that the remote had ceased to work so was cheaper to buy a new one than a replacement so didn't want anything too fancy as just wanted to plug and play and that is what was exactly possible so really pleased with the purchase. Easy to use, good quality and as I said the main thing was easy to swap over. It is also much smaller and compact than the previous one so excellent choice.

No dislikes. I have a large DVD library including photos on CD. Easy and comfortable navigation.

Reasonably priced and functional replacement dvd player
Our old Philips DVD player broke aftrer 17 years. I didn't want to spend too much money as most of the stuff we watch nowadays is streamed. Just something basic that works and this is it. It only works with SCART or component video inputs on your TV (no HDMI) so make sure this is not going to be a problem. It is not a full SCART either - the DVD player will not automatically switch your TV input over when turned on, so you will have to select manually the correct input via your TV remote. However that aside the picture quality is completely fine for DVD format since it is not high resolution. Instructions for making this DVD player region-free are available online. I followed these and it worked.

TV can't tell when the DVD player is on.
I usually don't bother to write reviews but this has made me feel a bit ripped off with all the things I had to buy to try and get it to work. First it only comes with a SCART cable so I bought an adaptor and a HDMI cable after using a USB cable didn't show it up as an option on the TV at all. After plugging everything in I went to set up the DVD player as a source on my Samsung UE40NU7120 HDR 4K Ultra HD Smart TV. The TV recognised a HDMI cable had been put in but couldn't tell when the device was turned on and so couldn't set up the DVD as a source so it's useless to me. I've went on to purchase a Sony one that connects via HDMI instead to save the faff and annoyance of spending hours trying to get this to work. Wasn't a bad price for a DVD player but seeing as it won't work I couldn't tell you if it's picture quality is good but it definitely wasn't easy to use. If you have a newer TV I wouldn't bother with this, just go for HDMI DVD players.
