Does the job!
For the money… it does what you expect, no dramas, no issues, a handy piece of kit for the toolbox for years to come I’m sure

Tight fit but sturdy and does the job.
I got fed up with crappy school compasses and decided to give this a try. It’s made of brass with a steel pin. Construction looks simple but effective, though the pencil hole is very tight out of the box. Once set up though, this is excellent value.

Good value scribing compass, but pencil fit requires adjustment
I originally used a standard compass from a maths set for scribing, but after misplacing it, I tried several new ones only to find they had too much slack, causing them to slip and forcing me to start over. This scribing compass, however, is sturdy and stays firmly in place thanks to the adjustable wing nut, which locks it tightly during use. As other reviewers have noted, fitting a pencil can be tricky—even with the wing nut completely removed. A round pencil doesn’t grip securely, and a hexagonal pencil doesn’t fit at all. That said, since this tool is intended for woodworkers, trimming down a pencil to fit is a quick and easy fix for most users. I’ve rated it four stars because, while the issue is easily manageable, it would be nice if the compass accommodated standard pencils without modification. Compared to branded scribing tools that can cost £30 or more, this compass offers excellent functionality at a fraction of the price. It meets all my needs as a reliable and affordable scribing tool for carpentry work.

Quite flimsy
This is a good tool but quite flimsy. Watch how much pressure you put on it.

Great for profiles when fitting against a sloping wall
I was wary buying this, as it is one of the cheapest compasses listed for carpentry. However, I don't need anything fancy or expensive for a limited amount of DIY. The main reason for being cautious was a review saying how difficult it is to get a pencil in, and that it is not tight enough to stop movement. This was not a problem for me. You simply loosen the Wing Nut as much as needed, and tighten when a standard pencil is in place. The Wing Nut is secure, so you can tighten it sufficiently to hold the pencil and ensure the compass won't move. I can't really see how such a simple mechanism would fail, unless either the thread was damaged. I would happily buy another if I lost this one.
