Really nice strainer. I use this for cooking fresh pasta in a large pat, and also for washing out vegetables. Really solid, perfect size. I haven't had a situation where food bits were falling through the holes. It's been seeing regular use since purchased. The only room for improvement would be the wire connections to the wood. Food will sometimes get stuck in between, so there's occasionally a bit of extra work when cleaning.

Joyce Chen 7" Stainless Steel Strainer This "spider" is just the right size for virtually any straining job. The metal is high quality, performs well and has not shown signs of rust. The handle is wooden which means that it doesn't conduct heat well, making it safe to handle. I thought that the wooden handle would come loose from the metal, but it is well attached. My only problem with this is cleaning: the wood doesn't fare well in the dish washer so I hand wash it. Also, food can get lodged between the metal and wood and can need special attention. However, all in all this item works great, certainly better than the all-metal spiders which tend to be made of inferior materials. I'm glad I got this one.

At 69 years (46 of them with me), heaving a full and boiling pasta pot to the sink to empty into a colander was becoming difficult, if not dangerous for my wife. Much as I love her cooking, I hated the fear I experienced watching her. Suggesting that I might help did NOT go down too well, either. Saw this on a cooking show one day and searched and ordered it for a holiday gift. But when it arrived, it looked just too "durable" for a real "gift", so I turned it over to her on the spot. No more fears of scalds or spills. This thing is great. The mesh is good for just about any pasta, but it is certainly not a sieve. Remember though that starch makes a great glue, so do not let it go dry with any residue on it, unless you want to spend some time humming at the sink while you clean it. The bamboo is heavy and shows no sign of deterioration in about month of frequent use. Pretty it's not, but function is prime, and durability seems excellent.

Why didn't I get this 100 years sooner! Oh, I know. I try to not get stuff that clutters up my valuable kitchen storage space. Now that I have a spider spoon I realize how much trouble that I didn't have to deal with all these years. So yeah, get this if you ever need to strain anything in the kitchen.
