Content creator must have.
I love this case!!! I’m always buying different cases because I get bored of previous ones. This one however I have kept and still love the looks of it. Not to mention the ability to put it in the cage to be able to mount it on a tripod, and add accessories for video or photography. This is a must have. Specially if you create content. It’s easy to use, quality is great, and fits my iPhone perfectly. Highly recommend.

Durable & Useful: BATTLE ARMOR.
This thing makes my ridiculously expensive iPhone 16 Pro feel like it’s incapsulated in a steel battle suit. Then it can deploy its inner self when you need a smaller profile. The best part, the thick plate around the cameras (why you dropped the extra $$$) stays with the phone. I got this to mount on tripod with the threads or use other accessories for making small vids. I will likely keep the cage on 99% of the time because it’s awesome (has cold shoes, thread, and other quick attach spots for other a small rig stuff)

Excellent solution for a compact cage
Good set up for a minimal vlogging rig

Great case
The cage is fantastic, and for the price of a standard phone case from Verizon, it’s a no brainer While I purchased it specifically for film use (I’m a photojournalist by trade, and find myself using my phone more and more) the rubber insert case that goes inside the cage is good as well. No bells and whistles on the rubber case, very simple, all the buttons line up just fine. OCCASIONAL issue with the charging port on some larger cables. I frequently dock my phone for editing, and the dock cable is just too large to fit in the case. The cage itself is great. It works great with the handles, shotgun mic, and external storage I was using previously. No issues at all with the cage.

a disaster
This new cage from Smallrig is a disaster. What were they thinking? The cage covers the new camera button on the iPhone 16 Pro. That button is quite handy if you see something in the street and need to start shooting straight away so you won't miss whatever is happening. Nevertheless, I could live without that button. What I can not live with is the fact that my very expensive iPhone 16 Pro 512 GB (£1,299 at Apple) is held in the cage by just a small button . There is nothing else! It's just not safe (see video). Moreover, the phone shakes in the cage! Will that scratch it and devalue the phone for sale in future? One thing is for sure: This is the first wobbly cage/case ever. Yes, cage/case. Smallrig had this nice idea of combining a cage with a case what is very handy. Unfortunately, they went very wrong in the locking system and the covering of the place for the camera button. But they didn't forget to put some useless decorative thing with their name. That space could have been used to put something else, a shoe mount, for example, leaving room along the side of the cage for an open space which would allow the use of the camera button on the iPhone 16 Pro. I like Smallrig and have several of their products including the cage for iPhone 14 Pro , which is excellent. I normally use the Beastgrip cage but when I want to go lighter and smaller then I use the Smallrig cage. I upgraded to the 16 Pro and, as always , need to get new cases and cages because Apple makes sure that each new iPhone is slightly bigger or smaller than the previous model . Just enough to force everybody to buy new cases. And they claim to be so concerned about the environment... The 16 Pro almost fits in the Smallrig cage for 14 Pro (please see video) where you slide the phone down the cage . It's tight but the placement of the holes for the lenses doesn't match with the 16 Pro. The cage for the 14 Pro (and probably the one for the 15 Pro as well) is extremely safe. Even if the lock breaks (very unlikely) your phone will not slide up the cage on its own. Conclusion: I will send the cage back for a full refund. What a shame!

Ehhh
The metal bracket was heavy duty but phone still wasn’t as secure as I would have preferred. The bumpers and lens adapter felt like they came from esty.. for the price, no bueno

Excellent For Most Workflows with Caveats
SmallRig’s design for this cage system works perfectly for me, but it may not for you. I find that I rarely use the metal cage since I can mount my anamorphic lens, wide angle, and fisheye lens quickly to the inner case. I leave the inner case on my phone at all times and mount it in the metal cage when I need to mount accessories. The inner case is light and will fit on small gimbals with little problem and allows mounting Neutral Density filters to shoot spatial video or normal video without the staccato shutter one gets in bright sunlight. I also have a Beastcage, but I find I never use it because the SmallRig inner case is always on my phone. The outer metal cage on the SmallRig is light and can be carried in a bag with other accessories. I find taking my phone out of a case to mount it into a cage a hassle, so I rarely use the BeastCage. I do own two of these cages with the handles and recommend them. If you want to shoot ProRes, Spatial, or improved video with an ND, save yourself the time, money and trouble and buy this. If you want a more robust (and time consuming) solution, buy the BeastGrip. If you’re not going to keep the SmallRig inner case on your phone at all times like I do, go with something else. For me and my workflow, this is an amazing and useful design. Well done, SmallRig!

Solid build, lacks versatility with other products for your setup.
Returning item, fitment is great, built solid. My issue is that it was built to primarily work with smallrig accessories. So lens attachments, needed to be magnetic, the higher tier version that comes with a case wouldn’t also accommodate the lens kit and need to use the rubber phone case vs the premium case to use. When using a haeklock or orca mount plate unable to use in the vertical position for instagram videos. Solid build, limited options due to design for Smallrig accessories. I had to also return all of the accessories purchased because I was’t happy with the fitment of the lens adapter and the quality of their lens. I’ll be leaning towards a setup that allows use of any 67mm lens so I’m not locked into one brand for my setup.

The newly added quick camera button on the iPhone 15 pro cannot be used with this cage. It covers the button, so if you’re looking to open your camera quickly, you can’t. So disappointing.

The case is proetective and slim, very sleek with no branding text which is great. The action button is cut out is great but inaccessible using the cage. Also I cannot use the 17 mm thread without taking off the case to put back into the cage, this is one big downside, so I am forced to use the moment t mount lenses whcih is lackng in super telephoto lenses, would be great if there is a 17mm version of this film making bundle
