High-End NAS That Delivers – Perfect for Serious Storage Needs
I bought the Asustor FLASHSTOR 12 Pro Gen2 FS6812X to consolidate all my scattered USB drives and multiple storage setups into one fast, centralised system—and it’s been a fantastic upgrade. Here’s what stands out: I installed six 4TB NVMe drives and set them up in RAID 5, giving me around 20TB of usable space with redundancy. 12 x M.2 SSD slots offer massive potential for future expansion, and make this NAS totally silent—no spinning disks here. Dual 10GbE ports provide blazing-fast transfer speeds—file moves and backups are quick and effortless. The Ryzen Quad Core 2.3GHz CPU and 16GB ECC DDR5 RAM handle everything smoothly, even under load. The Asustor OS is clean and powerful with great tools for backup, media, Docker, and more. USB4 Type-C is a nice touch for external device access. Yes, it’s on the expensive side, but with these specs and performance, I think it’s worth every penny. If you’re looking for a high-performance NAS with tons of SSD storage potential, excellent speed, and a future-ready setup—this is it.

Whisper quiet and great little product
Don't let the weird PS4 shape put you off, also the rather plasticky build. The device itself is super easy to use, from the installations of the NVME drives (toolless), and upgrading the memory. I upgraded mine to 16gb using some Crucial (https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B08C4WV6FT?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title&th=1). The downloadable ASUSTOR Control Center app made installation of the NAS a breeze. The interface is snappy and quick on 16gb. The official heatsinks are a little overpriced (https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0CFTYRK3J?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title) and should really have been included. I would recommend some sort of heatsinks for keep things cool. Just be careful if you intend to add NVME drives with existing heatsinks as they might too tall and may obstruct the cooling fan or worse still prevent you from putting the fixture plate back on. Across a 2.5gb link, I've managed to saturate the available bandwidth reliably and consistently. The app store although not the same level as QNAP or Synology, has some of the most common apps available, so not felt as though I missed out using ASUSTOR ADM. Overall, pleased with the device and as a Flash NAS is makes a compelling reason to ditch the mechanical equivalents, although it will be far more expensive to populate.

Silent Running
Great item silent running, easy to setup and attractive too. As they are SSDs fast and reliable. Absolutely no issues. Now just got to get a handle on Plex!

Nice! Great Buy
Already running two Synology NAS setups. following several drive failures I was keen to get going on SSD NAS drives. This device is spot on, though initially, I struggled to get one through lack of stock, when it arrived it was worth the wait. A couple of things you need to consider though! In at number 1 is the SSD's, the temptation, of course, is to go a little cheaper but increase your storage capacity, but speed plays a huge part, I ended up going with some nice intel SSD's that were on offer, now I am getting huge throughput copying close to 150 Mb's over the network, so please think about what you are going to put inside of it. In at number 2, the interface. This of course is subjective but being used to DSM, I found the ASUS GUIi a touch clumsy and sometimes slow, other people I am sure will disagree but I think its a fair comparison, with that said it does everything you would expect and though not always obvious you should find no big differences. Overall its a slick looking device, perhaps a little Media player looking compared to a synology, but who cares?! It will sit somewhere happily churning out data to your network. I would 100% recommend this, it's expensive to get started but you won't regret it. My only regret is I didn't buy the 12-bay version but hindsight is a wonderful thing.

It's alright
Using 6 no. Samsung 2TB EVO Pro and maxing out the network connections; JBOD though as do not wish the capacity reduction and it is not my main NAS. Works perfectly, no issues and virtually silent. Application software is fine and easy to use.

Great NAS but poor build quality
The concept of an all ssd prosumer NAS is great especially as SSD prices are coming down. I have started off with 4 lexar 4TB drives for this one. The NAS is lightning fast and limited mostly by the CPU if you are looking for speeds over 5gbps. Unfortunately, the build quality is not great and this looks and feels cheap. Why design it like a PS2? Worse, you need to remove 4 screws to get to the ssd slots and these screws are a pain. They don’t seem to be standard ones and I ended up striping them. Managed to extract them after drilling in. Decided not to use any more screws as the USB connection (for the fan!) provides a tight enough lock for something that sits in my server rack.

I'm able to consistently saturate the 10Gbe both R/W with 6x TeamGroup MP34 4TB NVMe drives on BTRFS Raid5. ADM works fine and easy to use. All services (SMB, NFS, AFP, etc.) are perfectly working with 0 downtime. I have it placed in my rack in a high-ambient temp area and drives never go over 42C. I purchased the heat sink kit from Asustor separately to make it easier to manage heat under load while manually setting the fan speed to High in ADM. It's been rock solid the past few weeks and consistently giving me top speeds and I haven't filled the array yet. Definitely enjoying the low power consumption as well. What really impresses me is the random seek being so fast as you would expect from NVMe. This is a pretty unique product that I passed over at first glance, but after more research and actual use I'm finding it being a centerpiece of the homelab giving me fast IO for a pretty good price. NVMe speeds, 10Gbe, low-power consumption, small form factor, intel processor, upgradable ram and quiet all at a pretty good price point with the added benefits of better random seek. I struggle to compare to any commodity gear that has all these features for that price. Really excited to see what other devices this inspires with the NVMe prices falling, but for now this is a solid & fast NAS.
