Excellent product
Have used this model for a long time. Very reliable. Got this new one due to a failure of the original due to freezing weather. They warn you about that but the weather caught me off guard.

Essential for watering during extreme drought and heat.
I have used these before in a mechanical variant. The summer of 2025 taught me that my tomato plants needed even more flexibility. This unit was the answer. There are a variety of clever options that allow you to set it up to water when you want, as often as you want and in the quantity you want. It is also simple to turn water on instantly when needed without removing the unit. I have a soaker hose routed around my tomato plants and use the timer to supply them a fresh drink every morning and evening. You could set it to more or less frequently if you like. It's also very easy to make changes if you have changing weather conditions or just witness that the plants need more or less. Also works great for new sod or over seeding grass in the fall.

Easy to use basic timer - short lifespan.
UPDATE: 5/1/21: 2 of the 3 I had failed this spring. In both cases the valves stuck open and wouldn't shut off. They were both stored in a heated cabinet all winter. Ordered 3 timers from another manufacturer. I'm done with this product and lowering my star rating. I am writing this review as I get ready to put batteries in a couple 7 year old Galcon timers that cost more but at least last (and were stored right next to the Orbits all winter). ORIGINAL REVIEW: I've used several of these over the years and they've worked well enough. I like the overall design. The large dial make it easy to move from setting to setting and configure it for basic watering needs. I also like the custom length manual watering mode and have always had one of these that has only been used this way to manually start a sprinkler and not have to worry about letting it run too long. The reason I don't rate these better is that I seem to get only 1 or 2 seasons out of them. I've had as many as 5 in operation and pretty much every year I've used them I get them out in the spring and a 1 or 2 fail to work. They'll make an audible "click" when not connected to a water supply but when actually hooked up they stay open and run nonstop or fail to open fully, regardless of "trying" as indicated by the click. The internal valves just don't hold up. For some time, I've thought maybe it was due to storing in my shed where temps drop below freezing (Orbit says not to do this, admittedly, but I always made sure to drain them out well). However, this past winter I stored them in a separate thermostatically heated cabinet where I store glues, etc, to keep them from freezing and I still had 1 failure this spring in the 4 I had on hand. I have 3 timers of another brand that have been in use for 3-5 years and stored on the same shelf with these and they have never let me down although those cost more and lack the customizable manual mode. I want to love these, and at 15 bucks a year (assuming a 2 year life) maybe they still aren't that bad but I'm going to try some other units for a while.

Effective enough for one season if you're careful; would be a 5-star product if it was brass (would be worth the add'l cost)
The first (and likely most important) aspect to note is that this is all plastic. Thus I expect to use it for the upcoming vacation, and perhaps a couple more. It's been running fine for a couple of days now; seems fine thus far. [UPDATE: It ran wonderfully for 10 days, and my garden grew even better than if I had been here... I'm honestly considering just leaving it out there until it fails or end of season (whichever comes first).] Tip: Do not plan to thread this directly on your wall-spigot. The plastic is too soft to couple with brass without a great amount of room/visibility/maneuverability to line up the soft threads "just right." I placed mine directly attached to the sprinkler, and rainproofed it with a simple tape & half-ziploc bag. All my fixtures/sprayers/etc. use a brass quick-disconnect system, so I have a disconnect on the input side and the sprinkler on the output side. I can just move the whole thing into storage until a few days before the next trip. The system is VERY easy to program. The "Manual" button works great; you basically walk up, press Manual, and after a few seconds it waters for 10min. (Clearly it pauses so you can + / - the time). Also note that the "water slam" effect that so many other people have noted WILL move your sprinkler out of alignment a tiny bit each time, so anchor your sprinkler with stakes or a brick. [UPDATE 2] The "waterproofing" isn't exactly waterproof... The "manual" button allows water to leak in, shorting it out and creating an endless loop of additional time rather than actually remaining a "10min then auto-off" function. Pressing Manual again does turn it back off and resume the normal schedule. Thus for applications where this is deployed out in the garden itself, I recommend additional water-shielding around the buttons. I would give this 5 stars if those connectors were sturdier, and if the waterproofing was more effective.

I bought 3 of these in 2023 and they are perfect, very easy to set up and use and do not leak ... this review is now July 2025 and I bought them 2 summer ago and have no regrets ... they work perfectly
