Best entry open backs??
For background: I use Meze 99 Classics, Moondrop Aria Snow edition IEMs and Koss Porta Pros for most of my listening. Sometimes Samson SR860 or Grado SR80x, but for the most part most of my listening is done on bassy/warm headphones, Grado an exception. But I didn't really have TRUE open backs that I could use at my desk for hours, let alone owning magnetic planar headphones. I saw these and I already knew of FiiO through their BTR13 bluetooth dongle (love it!!), so I went and ordered these. I was honestly expecting these to not be great, magnetic planars for $300?? Too good to be true. But after maybe a month or two, I am still very satisfied about these. They feel amazing in the hands, see my list of audio stuff above: Meze, Moondrop, porta pros, I like things that look good to my eyes and skin or have a style to them. These fit that with the pretty solid QC and very attractive metal grills. But what most people are going to worry about: the audio is just amazing simply put it, although they have a slight metallic sound? Almost crispy and kind of strange, but it isn't the WORST. You only notice it for the first 30 minutes but now I don't even notice it. And honestly, I just EQ these to be a little more bassy, probably because I'm just used to that mid-bass bump on everything else I own. So to sum up what else I feel about the audio: it is a) highly, HIGHLY detailed, b) "comfortable" sounding (they aren't bitey like my Grado SR80x, I can use the FT1 Pros for hours as long as I'm not blasting my ears), and c) absolutely amazing bass. Right now I'm actually listening to Foals' Life Is Yours album, and the bass is really thumpy but it doesn't impede anything else like some e-waste bluetooth over-ears do. Mids are clear, the sound stage could be improved, but it is definitely good. Only real complaint: FiiO, please get better feeling ear pads, the current ones feel like someones repurposed gym shorts and are very dry against my skin, maybe something softer or (p)leather? Anyways, If you aren't an audio snob already at the tippity-top and want to invest in open-back planars, these are an ABSOLUTELY solid choice. I didn't mention earlier but these come with a 4.4mm balanced jack cable and if you own a dac/amp with one of those plugs, or like me with a FiiO BTR device, they sound much "bigger" with them. But the 3.5mm is totally fine unless you use your smart fridge or a Geil iBall DAViD, if so get something better. Has a pretty whatever hard case, I don't use it because they live at my desk but are a good inclusion if you travel often. TLDR: great value, sound is worth it, they look gorgeous and are very comfy. Earpads are little odd, but can be user replaced. Sound and looks are absolutely the best things about these cans and put them at either #1 or #2 on my headphone collection (paired together with my Meze 99s).

Insanely good headphone!
Ok, what is happening? I just compared these headphones to a $3000 headphones from a VERY respected brand and while they were not sounding EXACTLY the same, they were so scary close it made me question reality. With the comparison or not, I already could tell these are wonderful. First, SOUND QUALITY The sound staging is amazing. Super wide, open, broad, music is truly free when delivered through these headphones into your ears. Just wonderful instrument separation and spacious arrangement of everything that plays in a song. ALl of that is supported by a strong, beautifully natural sounding bass. It kicks hard but it doesn't overwhelm anything else. Just perfect. Then come the mids. Every vocal, every instrument that is lacking so much in other brands I clearly present here. Just wow. Yet, the overall sound profile is never dull. Even in demanding compositions, everything sound so dynamic and perfectly-arranged. Again, just wow. But then come the highs - totally living in their own space. This headphone is almost deceptive, making you think in the beginning it's going to be warm but then someone hits a cymbal and you can hear it so clearly and well-delivered. It's just mind-boggling how detailed these are. Also, the highs never get to that unpleasant harsh place. They are all there and yet - they are very well-controlled. ERGONOMICS: Very good. Not as amazing as the $3000 headphone I referenced above but - really - nothing to complain about. The earcups are perfectly soft. The clamping force is just right. The extension arms are long enough to accommodate my oversized head and there is room left (which is important BECAUSE: it lets you overextend a little if the headband ever becomes uncomfortable and starts bothering you). In other words: you can wear these all day and not feel any fatigue. AESTHETICS: A blend of traditional sound excellence from a higher shelf and modern, sleek, techy appearance. They maintain the understated elegance but also do communicate right away: this is not your cheap BestBuy headphone! You're in for something special here! CABLES: Fantastic! Both high-quality! There is no need to upgrade. You get TWO separate cables, a 3.5mm and a 4.4mm. An adapter to go 6.35mm is also included so basically you can run these via a very wide range of devices. Awesome! CONCLUSION: This is a SHOCKINGLY great purchase at the current price! HIGHLY recommended for all enthusiasts, audiophiles, advanced music lovers - this will be your best spend $200+ audio money in 2025 and probably for a solid few years beyond!

Comfortable, punch well above their price
Incredibly comfortable, tight bass with excellent extension for an open-back. Mid-range is good, upper end is slightly weak but responds well to EQ. Personally prefer these to DT 900 X for acoustic/jazz music at ~50% the cost. Easy to drive with any laptop/phone or DAC. Build quality feels solid, premium materials and probably the nicest OEM ear pads (cool memory foam) on any headset I've owned. Cable is of premium construction; braided and molded connectors. The value for money is fantastic.

Excellent headphone that represents a new benchmark (but beware of QC)
This headphone has the potential to be the de-facto headphone recommendation at the price point, combining great tuning and technical performance. As with most planar driver headphones, you get a very clean and detailed sound signature but arguably, this headphone is the best tuned of any planar headphone available below $1000. Bass extends deep and while it is not the most impactful (without EQ), it is fast and very clean with good definition. Mids are very neutral (which in audio terms is a good thing). Voices and instruments present in a very life-like manner with good separation. Treble, for a planar magnetic headphone, is relaxed but well extended (which is a breath of fresh air, considering most of the planar competition can sometimes be overly bright). This headphone competes very nicely with the mainstays at this price point and takes aim at the Sennheiser 6X0 series, as well as the Hifiman Sundara and XS and while it does not supplant them, it serves as a good alternative to consider for anyone who found the Sennheisers to not have enough extension in the bass and find the Hifiman duo to be too bright. Build quality on these is fairly decent and the headphones aren't overly heavy so most people shouldn't have problems wearing these for a long time. The headband, perhaps, could be improved - there is a slight hot spot at the top of the headband that may potentially cause discomfort during hours long listening sessions but a Capra strap would fix this completely. One con on these headphones: there is a bit of QC roulette - some units may have clipping in the bass at higher SPL. If you EQ in bass, or listen to bassy music at high volumes, the bass may distort and clip. Unfortunately, the unit I received is affected by this issue.

These Headphones Are Worth Every Penny!
I really did not expect to like these headphones at all. In fact I have been a Sennheiser "purist" for years. The initial impression putting these on my head, even before putting anything through them, was "amazed" - light weight & airy open unlike any other open-back I have ever put on my head. Then I got to do a side-by-side comparison of these phones & the Hifiman Sundara phones which it seems everyone says are better. At the end of my comparison I can honestly say that they are not. These FiiOs are lighter & more comfortable, more wide open, are more efficient by far, & have a much broader & more open sound stage. The bass on these phones is not pushed, it is smooth & strong without being overpowering. The highs are nothing short of incredible - "crystalline" was the word that first came to my mind. Vocals are nicely present & very well defined & placed. You really notice the difference between bad & well-engineered recordings. Compared to the Sundaras these are very efficient - between the two I had to add much more volume when plugging in the Sundaras. The Sundaras were also darker & more muffled by comparison. The bottom line is I just did not like them & returned them. The FT-1 Pros are now my listening headphones & I never in a million years thought I would like something more than my Sennheiser HD650's, but honestly there's no real comparison, & they only get better the more I listen to them. Right now I consider them the best bargain available in the world of open-backed planar magnetic headphones bar none. Be prepared to spend some time breaking them in & plan on ordering a new cable - I'm not sure why headphone manufacturers think you will be sitting on top of your amplifier to listen & send them out with 4' cables, but it seems they all do that these days.

Two FT1 Pro Ear Cup/Yoke Failures Within One Week
To start with, I've really enjoyed my FT1 Pro headphones. I love the detail you can get, and they seem very happy with moderate EQ-ing. The problem is that I've had two similar failures on two different FT1 Pros within a week's time. On February 6th I noticed that my FiiO FT1-Pro headphones had a crack in way of the forward screw on the left yoke. It extended ~16mm forward/down from the screw and ~ 20mm rearward/up from the screw. These headphone have not been dropped or banged against anything. (They were purchased on 22 December 2025 from an Amazon seller.) On the 6th I sent a message that day to both FiiO (for manufacturer's warranty?) and to the company the was the Amazon seller -- I included a photo. On the 10th I got a response from FiiO suggesting that if the seller could not resolve the issue, I could ship the headphones to China for them to take a look at them...Right before the Lunar New Year! I also sent a message (with photo) to the seller via Amazon's link. On the 10th, with no response from the seller, I pleaded my case to Amazon who allowed me an extension of the RMA period. That day I boxed the headphones and later dropped them (figuratively) off at the UPS store. On the 10th, I ordered a new FT1 Pro from FiiO via Amazon, which arrived on the 11th. On Feb 16th, 10 days after my query, I got a reply from the seller: "HI, This looks like a wear and tear issue which we unfortunately won't be able to provide our service to repair the unit. However, I can provide you with a deep discount coupon on any new item." I had some other things going on, but I finally gave the new FT1 Pro a quick sound check on the 15th. The next morning (the 16th) I was changing the cables and found cracks on BOTH earcups near the yoke attachment points. (photos attached -- sorry about the color balance). The 2nd set of FT1 Pros is boxed and ready to ship out. I got a 2-year protection plan with the new headphones, but I'm not sure what Amazon is going to do with the first return -- I still need to see their evaluation Right now I have about $420 in float depending on the verdict of the first seller and whatever Amazon decides about them as a returned item -- and if I return the second pair back as damaged goods or just use the warranty. I like the FT1 Pros, and they pair nicely with my FT1s. But I'm wondering if I need to look for another brand, or a seller that is in better touch with FiiO. Is this another QC problem with the FT1 series? Have there been other reports ear-cup cracking?

Fantastic sound quality undercut by poor build quality and driver pairing.
I was initially blown away with the FT1 Pros. It was a transcendental experience and me really aware how good planars and open backs could be. The problem is, yeah, they might compete with much more expensive headphones but... My pair creak when I move my head. The drivers are poorly matched, the left one is much quieter at certain frequencies. This difference has gotten worse with time. The earpads are hard to clean and, because they're fabric, absolutely do need regular cleaning. And earlier revisions, the pins holding on the earpads would just sheer off entirely. I'm going to contact Fiio support but have low expectations, tbh. I'll update the review if they do something.

The Best for the Price
These are excellent. They are very well built and comfortable to wear. If anything the clamp is a little too loose as they will slide a little with harsh head movements. The earpads are super plush and soft on the skin and the cable is impressively nice. It is a little thick but very easy to bend and it doesn’t kink or tangle at all. I do worry the metal size adjustment will break the soft headband material, but time will tell. In terms of sound, these are very detailed, more detailed than headphones double their price. I haven’t heard any harshness in the treble and the bass is very present. They do feel a little dark (almost muffling vocals) at times, but that gives you a sense of soundstage unlike any other headphone I have. Everything sounds a little further away. My closest comparison to these are hifiman sundaras, but these are much better built. They also include a 4.4mm cable and a beautiful carry case out of the box. For the price, these are unbeatable, and even ignoring the price, these are great, very enjoyable headphones. I also really love that they come in blue, it’s such a pretty colour, but it still feels classy.

Great open back planners, great price, great sound
Got these to go with my closed back meze 99s - ft1 open backs for working at home, 99 closed for working in the office, it's a fabulous combination! Price is great for planars and sound quality is fantastic, you need to go up several price levels to beat these (I tried Arya stealths and they were fantastic but in honesty maybe only 10% better for 3x the price). Bass is slightly lacking probably as open backs but a minor tweak to EQ sorted that (I'm not a 'bass head' but I do like to feel it, especially on Zeppelin, the cult etc). Quality looks good and packaged content is nice including a great case (which I'll never use but still). Not as comfy as the mezes (what is?) but still comfortable for long periods. Included cables are WAY better than the mezes (which are frankly embarrassing for meze, they do need to sort that), all around a great purchase, highly recommended.

Transparent, komfortabel, komplett
Transparenter, luftiger Klang, bauartbedingt (Planar) eher kontrollierter Bass.

I high end headphones with an impressive value
Impressive sound and audio experience. Wear them, close your eyes and you can see the music. The last time I had an equivalent experience was when I had my first AKG headphones 30 year ago.
