1/10 RC Hornet EVO. TAM58742

I feel like I’m coming a little late to the game, but I must say that I purchased the Hornet Evo to reignite old memories of my father and me building and driving the original Hornet. My dad bought this car for me in early 1986, around the same time Heart’s “These Dreams” hit number one. So why mention that? Because it seemed like that song was all that ever played on the radio while I listened and built my Hornet. My dad was so impressed with the performance and the sheer fun I was having with the car that he bought one for himself. So, I built another Hornet for him. I was 13 at the time. One of my friends had a Grasshopper, and we drove those little RC cars everywhere. My father has since passed, which made revisiting these memories during this build especially meaningful to me. I bought this on impulse, and I’m incredibly happy I did. Tamiya made some thoughtful improvements to the Hornet Evo, but what really stood out to me is that the ease of the build hasn’t changed. It still feels just as approachable and enjoyable as it did decades ago, while benefiting from modern upgrades. I took my time with the build, soaking in all the memories that came flooding back from when I was 13, including listening to “These Dreams” during the build process. From the satisfaction of getting all the electronics working, to peeling off the overspray protective film and revealing that super-shiny, glossy black paint job, to meticulously cutting out and applying all the stickers and transforming the body into the Hornet of old, it was all deeply rewarding. Take your time with this build. Savor the moment and enjoy it. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. It was worth every cent. Thank you, Tamiya, for remembering what made your company so special, at least to me.

Lot of fun to build. Looks great and drives well. Not the fastest but it is a re-release.

A fun more modern build with classic styling. Kit comes with bearings, esc, and a classic silver can. The dt02 transmission is wonderful and a 19t pinion can be installed for some more speed. I recomend using a single hold piston in the rear shocks to help dampen and increase rear ride hight. Drives well and looks great! Will need JIS tools, charger, battery, radio gear, a servo and polycarbonate paint to finish. You can get some lipos to fit but a good old fashioned NIMH pack still fits best.

Great Tamiya quality and fun and educational to build. Has the same problem as the frog in that the rear axles disintegrate on their own. You automatically have to get aftermarket axles within an hour of driving the buggy.

Fun to build, high quality, good instructions! It's not for a young child to build unless well supervised. The components fit up tight and require some strength to set the screws, etc, so children will need help. Make sure you order a TAMIYA Fine Spec 2.4G Electric RC Drive Set (RC Model) along with it if you don't already have one or similar. Product description may lead you to belive it comes with the kit. Overall a great project and kit.
